What’s Hot/What’s Not: 03/06/11

What’s Hot:

Lou Dobbs – Dobbs’ FBN show starts March 14th.

The Decline and Fall of Charlie Sheen – Like any good train wreck, cable news simply could not turn away. Indeed, it ran as hard as it could to cover Sheen’s crash and burn.

What’s Not:

The Decline and Fall of Charlie Sheen – Pandering, pandering, pandering.

John King, USA – The Wall Street Journal came out with a story that CNN was mulling changes at 7pm ET. The next day Page Six came out with the first of two stories that CNN was shooting pilots though it’s not clear the pilots were ever part of any considered “changes” for 7pm.

Lanny Davis vs. Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz – It’s not that Davis and Maddow have issues that makes this not hot. It’s Ed Schultz’s apparent refusal to have Davis on to discuss the matter.

Lack of Originality? or Not? – Calling Lou Dobbs’ FBN show “Lou Dobbs Tonight” seems either a) silly because that’s what his CNN was called and you’d think FBN could come up with something original, or, b) shrewd because it keeps continuity in terms of branding for Dobbs plus it pokes a stick in CNN’s eye. I’m not sure which…

HOT: Huckabee, on his show, didn’t do another apology/not-really and blame the media for his dumb Kenya comments. He said they were dumb and he deserved what he got for it. Good for him.

  2. That’s standard Huckabee. No surprise there as he’s had other gaffs while governor of AR where cutting straight to the truth has served him well.

  3. Seems to me that Ed Schultz’s apparent stand on Lanny Davis has no ‘up’ side for Ed Schultz. I must be missing something.

It would have served him well-er if he had “cut straight to the truth” before BSing about Indonesia and madrassas, but “I was wrong” counts for a lot with me. I don’t like or trust him as much as I did, but I accept his apology.

He took care of the Portman thing, too, which wasn’t as near big a deal to begin with.

Again, it’s too bad, that the Lou Dobbs show will be on FBN, that no one gets because it’s not carried. (FBN)

  6. joeremi Says:

That’s one of the things I like about Ed: he doesn’t pick and choose his “stands” based on how it works for HIM.

Not: Piers Morgan. Just generally speaking.

  8. I think naming the show “Lou Dobbs Tonight” is a shrewd move.

I happen to miss Lou Dobbs’ since he moved off CNN; hope the Cavuto will let Dobbs’ be at Market close on FNC. O’Reilly guests Dobbs here and there, too.

  10. Whitney, that will never happen because Dobbs’ radio show is on during that time.

  11. whitneymuse Says:

Ah, Josh…deflate…gotta hope that when Dobbs finds his eyeball time is next to nothing, he’ll sort it out. E.g., when O’Reilly realized that Limbaugh wasn’t giving up listeners he went TV, only. For me, Cavuto just doesn’t cut it.
