Survey Says…WHAT?

Poll Position has a strong candidate for dumbest poll question ever. It asked “Among CNN, NSNBC, and Fox News, which cable network do you think is the best?” (via TVNewser)

Unfortunately the results aren’t important. The reason the results aren’t important is because of the sheer stupidity of the question. How the hell does one quantify “best”? Best at what? Best doing what?

Without some sort of benchmark standard to go on, you’re not going to get any kind of uniformity in response because everyone will approach the question based entirely on how they personally feel about what constitutes the term “best”. Breaking things down further by age, race, gender, and political affiliation gets Poll Position nowhere if the main question is as vacuous as this one is. It’s a complete waste of a poll. And I can’t believe TVNewser ran this without properly trashing it.
