Target Sharpton…

The Right’s heat on MSNBC continues for Al Sharpton. The American Spectator’s Jeffery Lord does actually add to the narrative by getting MSNBC to respond to his emails asking for comment…

As we said when we hired Rev. Sharpton, we didn’t hire the Al Sharpton of 1989, we hired the Al Sharpton of 2011. As he has said as recently as on last Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” he has changed over the years and no longer uses the heated rhetoric of two decades ago. We have been clear and consistent in our actions, we hold our hosts accountable for what they say on our air.

One example of his, he continued, is conservative outlet Media Research Center’s recent call for firings at MSNBC. While “guttersnipes on that network have been abusing freedom of speech” for years, said O’Reilly, the marketplace should decide repercussions for controversial or offensive commentary.

“The entire boycott movement is garbage,” he added. “The far-left threatening sponsors who advertise on programs they don’t like is flat-out un-American. So I believe that the Media Research Center is making a mistake, sinking to that level.”

  1. Do how far to you take this? We didn’t hire the Sirhan Sirhan of 1968; we hired the Sirhan Sirhan of 2012?

  2. I do say that Rev. Al would make a great target of a pie throwing contest… but what kind of pie?

  3. I am sick and tired of the whitewashing of Sharpton’s earlier years. Many of us here in NYC remember how he instigated the murders at Freddie’s Fashion Mart. He’s a vile creature.

If they “held their hosts accountable for what they say on the air”, then why was Lawrence allowed to do his threesome schtick Tuesday night?

“We hired the Lawrence of March 16, not the Lawrence of March 13”

  5. rev. has never apologized for his past transgressions.

  6. Another post about a right-wing post attacking sharpton for what happen years ago. This country is all about second chances, some of you need to get over your obvious biases. He’s been nothing but professional for many years now, especially since he was hired at MSNBC.

  7. I just now read the “related” on that. Good for Billo.

    Resist we much!

  9. While I do see and object to the hypocrisy from some on the left over which hosts have said what, and it’s true that Sharpton’s words years ago were particularly bad, I don’t think that smooshing all of that together should mean that he can’t have a job at MSNBC. I’d just keep him and anyone like him who has serious transgressions in their past on a shorter leash than the rest of the talent on my payroll.

If you don’t like Al Sharpton then don’t watch his programme. If enough people agree with you then he’ll go away. It’s un-American to try to silence anyone.

  10. ^ And it does not matter who did or didn’t do it first.

  11. ^ Amen.
