What’s Hot/What’s Not: 03/18/12

What’s Hot:

CNN Looks at Mashable – The news that CNN was in talks with Mashable about doing some sort of acquisition deal caused a big hubub at the start of the week. It may not happen and even if it does happen it may not succeed. It all depends on how it is executed and we’re a long long way off from that.

Target: Al Sharpton – With the lumps that Rush Limbaugh has gotten fresh in their minds certain right minded bloggers have started making a big stink about Al Sharpton using his past actions and rhetoric against him and drawing MSNBC in the crossfire. Sharpton himself hasn’t helped matters any as his radio show’s producers let has his substitutes (one of which was his daughter) field a bunch of calls demanding that Sean Hannity be taken off the air.

Target: Ed Schultz – Operating under the “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” theory, the MRC’s Brent Bozell left the “Fire Al Sharpton” reservation to build the “Fire Ed Schultz” and “Phil Griffin should resign” reservations.

Biting the Hand – Greta Van Susteren put up a Gretawire blog post bitching about a planted TVNewser story that took a shot at Erin Burnett’s show on CNN. Odd thing is that story pitch in all likelihood came from FNC PR which makes Greta’s tirade interesting to say the least.

What’s Not:

Not so subliminal advertising – MSNBC’s clip selection for promoting Alex Witt’s news show along with as Chris Hayes’ and Melissa Harris-Perry’s, all int he same TV ad, certainly does flow from a Progressive point of view. Considering the hard as nails non-partisan show that Witt does it’s pretty disingenuous in her case but hey… let’s Lean Forward!

Media Writers attending MSNBC’s up front – Media writers attending MSNBC’s up front had a golden opportunity to corner Phil Griffin and ask him about all this Al Sharpton stuff going on and get his position on it and Sharpton’s past. Didn’t happen. Rumor has it that the question was asked but wasn’t getting answered. Well that’s news too media writers! If Griffin or MSNBC don’t want to talk about Sharpton and all the protests and the audio tapes, you should write that MSNBC isn’t willing to talk about Sharpton and all the protests and the audio tapes. Fail!

Sharpton was apparently at MSNBC’s up front so that would have made things decidedly uncomfortable to talk about what’s going on with Al in the same room.

  1. HOT: Brian Lamb, founder of C-Span, stepping down as Chief Executive.

  2. “Sharpton was apparently at MSNBC’s up front so that would have made things decidedly uncomfortable to talk about what’s going on with Al in the same room.”

Media writers can’t have that happen, can they? I mean, that would be like committing suicide for those on the left. And since I don’t know where you, spud, fit in the pecking order of those who have an impact on behavior of those on the left in the media I’m conditionally saying that you saying “FAIL” will have no impact whatsoever.

  3. ^ Cheap shot!

  4. How many voices do you need to call it a chorus? I don’t know, but it starts with one. Spud’s doing his part. Eh?

  5. What is the sound of one voice chorusing?

  6. Rev. Al has all but one of the four and twenty baked into his pie.

  7. The Rev. Al exposé will be in the same program as the life and times of Rev. Jackson’s love-child.

  8. What is the sound of one voice chorusing?

That’s easy: Take a deep breath then hum. Now stuff a snorkel in your mouth.

  9. Gotta borrow Spud’s.

  10. I’ll let you borrow it…

    …as soon as I find it…

  11. “the MRC’s Brent Bozell left the “Fire Al Sharpton” reservation to build the “Fire Ed Schultz” and “Phil Griffin should resign” reservations.”

^^ Spud: Why would you or any reasonable person care what a hack like Bozell has to say about anything?
