Crossing The Line?

Mediaite’s Noah Rothman blasts Tamron Hall for going POV in his eyes…

MSNBC programming claims that they consider every program after 9 a.m. EST but prior to 3 p.m. on the weekdays to be “straight news” — not point of view programming. The truth of this statement has been repeatedly called into question, starting arguably with Hall’s own “Lean Forward” ad where she rails against the politically charged issue of income inequality. If Hall is a straight news anchor, as her network insists, than she should leave the role of panel guest to her panel guests.

I share Rothman’s position vis a vis MSNBC coming clean on 9-3 (excluding Now which isn’t news at all) but I don’t feel as strongly about this example as he does. It’s nowhere near as bad as when Hall completely lost it on the air a few months ago. In today’s “incident”…and I’m not sure that word is justified in this case…Hall could have done a bit better then to attempt to score points on Vargas as she did. But part of me wants to just shrug my shoulders and say “What do you expect?” This is the freak show part of cable news. It’s gratuitous. It doesn’t make news. All it does is appeal to the “Freak Show” crowd who tune in to hear noise and not learn anything.

  1. Why anyone carried a pretext that MSNBC still had lines of demarcation is beyond me. Even Spud seems to have given up that ghost. Unlike FNC which still has some news value, meaningful debates, and entertainment in addition to Hannity and Fox & Friends, nothing left at MSNBC for those outside the choir.

  2. The last 20 minutes of the Special Report is a great spot for non-freak-show exchanges. Tonight’s was especially good with a guy fom the AP and Kraut exchanging opinions. Steven Hayes also was reasonable enough to say Obama’s business “you did not do this” was out of context and somewhat unfair.

Wellll….you’re 2/6 correct. I leave it up to you to figure out which two are correct…

  4. So Larry’s interpretation of Hannity and Fox & Friends is simply “entertainment” when they spout off their conspiracy theories and fake outrages for 4 hours a day.

That’s fascinating and frankly sad, considering someone can be so blind to such ridiculous propaganda… especially when they claim the liberal alternative is not for “those outside of the choir”.

As if Fox appeals to anybody outside of the choir of people who share irrational right wing outrage that Rush Limbaugh and Drudge Report complained about earlier in the day. Please.

  5. “Wellll….you’re 2/6 correct. I leave it up to you to figure out which two are correct…”

That would be having Hannity and FOX and Friends. The rest are not correct.

The one thing that gets on my nerves are these fox-bots who go on and on praising the channels’ failed attempt at any kind of neutrality, while comically claiming to be fair to both sides… And what do the robots do? They fall for it hook, line and sinker, because that’s how they are operated to be duped, and they don’t notice that the network executives are laughing their heads off at how easily people can be made into fools because of a stupid slogan.

I’d also like to ask any regular Fox viewer who usually posts here to clarify one thing: have Megan Kelly, Bret Baier, Bill Hemmer, et al, ever came out (as the journalists they pretend to be) and actually stated the facts of what the president actually said in a speech or went out of their way to correct a lie or misstatement of one of their guests where they call the president a socialist, communist, Marxist, etc.?

  7. It’s funny that this comes up, RE:NewsNation. Just a couple hours before Spud posted this, I said in Free for All that I was concerned about the disturbing political turn NewsNation was taking. I noticed Tamron Hall becoming more partisan, I’ve noticed the show’s format has changed and I noticed how they use a graphics format direct from The Daily Rundown and NOW with Alex Wagner.

  8. Does it really matter? Does anyone other than TV writers, bloggers, and left-wing headcases still watch MSNBC?

  9. By entertainment I was thinking more of Bill O’Reilly which dwarfs anything on the other “cable news” channels for entertainment value.

The last two are in their own category, “Propoganda”: If you follow me you know I regularly bash Fox & Friends and Hannity.

Anyone who denies the news value of Shep’s two hours and Special Report is just obtuse.

  10. If I succeeded on getting on ProgLib’s nerves that gives much pleasure. Maybe he will move out of mommy’s basement and find a job.

The one thing that gets on my nerves

Are people who disagree with you.

    are these fox-bots

Says the guy who admitted to only defending and liking Keith Olbermann, because he was speaking the “right” opinion.

who go on and on praising the channels’ failed attempt at any kind of neutrality, while comically claiming to be fair to both sides…

    Huh?

And what do the robots do? They fall for it hook, line and sinker, because that’s how they are operated to be duped, and they don’t notice that the network executives are laughing their heads off at how easily people can be made into fools because of a stupid slogan.

This is the reverse of the common left-wing argument, “I’d like FOX News more, if it weren’t for their slogan.” Which may be the lamest argument ev-ah. All that hate, because of a slogan? Yeah, and Snapple isn’t really “made from the best stuff on Earth.”

Anyway, because Prog has bought into that nonsense, he assumes the people he disagrees with also have. But we don’t. It’s just a slogan. Who cares?

I’d also like to ask any regular Fox viewer who usually posts here to clarify one thing: have Megan Kelly, Bret Baier, Bill Hemmer, et al, ever came out (as the journalists they pretend to be) and actually stated the facts of what the president actually said in a speech or went out of their way to correct a lie or misstatement of one of their guests where they call the president a socialist, communist, Marxist, etc.?

    Yes. Yes they have.

Someone who actually watches, not just reads the blue rage sites, would know that.

    Thanks for playing!

Call me obtuse. Shepard Smith is the biggest phony on Fox News and his segment every day with that creepy little attorney in the afternoon is just silly. Megan Kelly, on the other hand, is one of the smartest people, male or female, on Fox News and could take down the best of libs. Love it when she hands Sally Kohn or Kirsten Powers their asses.

  13. Shep irritates me too with his liberal leanings, but he puts on a good news program. I like the creepy little attorney for some reason.

  14. There is news value in Shepard Smith’s program… Megyn Kelly is another right wing shill and her inability to let liberals speak shows it.

Btw, claudiva, it’s not hard to “take down” Kirsten Powers. If they had smart liberals on FOX, like they do on msnbc, their “anchors” would get verbally destroyed each day.

  15. Andy Panda speaks like someone who belongs with the MSNBC crowd of “smart liberals” which of course just means condesending twits.

  16. Shepard Smith makes his political leanings quite obvious, and that renders his claims on “journalism” moot.

  17. Well, lets see:
    1. Shes Female
    2. Shes Black
    3. Shes humping Socialist Lawrence Odonnel

She is a run of mill Liberal leftist.

  18. If a journalist makes his political leanings obvious, that, to me is a big plus. I’m more concerned about the one who hide it and pretends to be independent.

Tam is too pretty to be run-of-the-mill. LOD stands for Luck Old Degenerate.
