Joe Scarborough Responds to Autism Gaffe Blowback…

Joe Scarborough issued a statement regarding his gaffe yesterday regarding the possibility that the Aurora shooter had Autism…

During a debate regarding the recent Colorado shootings, I suggested that the Aurora tragedy should make Americans focus more on mental health in this country. I also stated that my own experiences raising a son with Aspergers made me keenly aware of how important strong support systems are to those who might otherwise be isolated.

The growing Autism epidemic is a tremendous burden for children, parents and loved ones to endure. My call for increased funding and awareness for Autism and other mental health conditions was meant to support the efforts of those who work every day to improve the lives of Americans impacted. Those suggesting that I was linking all violent behavior to Autism missed my larger point and overlooked the fact that I have a wonderful, loving son with Aspergers. Perhaps I could have made my point more eloquently.

I look forward to continuing my work with wonderful organizations like Autism Speaks to provide badly needed support to millions of Americans who struggle with Autism every day.

  1. What we in the business like to call “a non-appology appology”.

What business is that, you ask? None of your business.

  2. There is no apology there, nor is there a retraction of his statements.

Please come on over and sign the petition asking Joe Scarborough and MSNBC to issue a full retraction. We have over 5000 signatures already. Let’s keep it going!

  3. Of all the things I’ve heard on TV about the causes of the Colorado shooting, Joe’s comments seem the dumbest. Autism? God, that is stupid.

  4. Right, Joe..it’s my fault for not following your logic correctly. You linked your own son’s brain-type with a mass shooter. Say you’re sorry.

  5. “Perhaps I could have made my point more eloquently.”

That should Joe Scarborough’s daily disclaimer. Run it in the news scroll at the bottom of the screen during Morning Joe. In addition to being more eloquent, he could also try being a little quieter, and well, thoughtful. I minimal filter between brain and mouth would be useful.

Maybe he should be a little more absent, as in off the air. That goes for his entire network.

  7. Yes, by all means, let’s get those nasty liberals off the air. Why should THEY have something to watch..?

  8. Perhaps I could have made my point more eloquently.

That certainly goes a long way toward explaining why a “Republican” is on MSNBC instead of FNC.

  9. Interesting that Joey correctly labels Scarborough as a lib. Progress!

  10. About two years ago Scarborough saw the handwriting on the wall of the hard turn MSNBC was making and decided to reach out to liberals. He contacted liberal Tweeter and blogger O’TOOLEFAN who had already had a Scarborough section on his blog that was favorable. I was close to the guy too, phone calls every Sunday, because of our mutual interest in classic movies. Joe was able to get some back channel advice and soon was also conversing regularly and even appearing as a guest on O’TOOLEFAN’s regular podcast show. No, Joe is not a liberal, but he knows which side his bread is buttered, and has taken steps accordingly.

O’TOOLEFAN, real name Don, once got Joe to unblock me on Twitter after I mouthed off. He and I have since parted ways after I took umbrage with his girlfriend blaming Sarah Palin for the Tucson shootings.

  11. – Joey –

Still sounds psychotic; never gets old.

  12. Yes, you still do sound psychotic at times, but it can probably be helped. Maybe…
