Jon Klein Interview…

Posted in CNN on February 1, 2013 by icn2

The Huffington Post’s Danny Shea notes that former CNN President Jon Klein (and NPR’s David Folkenflik) appeared on HuffPost Live and discussed Piers Morgan’s hiring and his attempt to poach Keith Olbermann from MSNBC, which I agree would have sent that network’s prime time back to the stone age again.

Former CNN/US president Jon Klein joined HuffPost Live Friday to discuss the changes at his old network, and defended his decision to give Larry King’s 9PM slot to Piers Morgan.

“As a viewer I don’t regret it,” Klein told HuffPost Live host Ahmed Shihab-Eldin. “I watch him all the time. I think he’s been intelligent and provocative and he follows his own compass. That’s what we wanted, a guy who was an aggressive inquisitor, who spoke his mind, and could be as interesting as his guests. On most nights he does that.”

One regret Klein does seem to have, however, is not being able to convince his boss at the time, Jim Walton, to bring Keith Olbermann to CNN.

Steve Capus Out at NBC News…

The New York Times Brian Stelter writes about Steve Capus leaving NBC News and why…

But a restructuring six months ago foreshadowed Friday’s announcement. Steve Burke, the chief executive of NBCUniversal, consolidated all of NBC’s news units — NBC News, MSNBC and the business news channel CNBC — under a new umbrella, the NBCUniversal News Group, and he named one of his most trusted lieutenants, Ms. Fili-Krushel, to run it. Mr. Capus, who previously reported directly to Mr. Burke, now reported to Ms. Fili-Krushel.

Mr. Capus made no secret of his unhappiness with the restructuring. His contract had a clause that allowed him to leave in the event that he no longer reported to Mr. Burke, according to two people with direct knowledge of the arrangement at NBC. He decided to exercise that right after months of contemplation, according to the people, who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized by the network to speak publicly.

Well now the question will be who takes over for Capus? Has Mediaite started dropping Jim Bell’s name yet?
