Essence And MSNBC Team Up…

The Grio’s Alexis Garrett Stodghill writes about MSNBC going all in on the 2013 Essence Festival…

Cable news channel MSNBC will be on hand with its stellar roster of on-air talent, who will broadcast live from the Essence Empowerment Experience, a central hub of the festival. MSNBC hosts and contributors including the Rev. Al Sharpton, Tamron Hall, Melissa Harris-Perry, Chris Matthews, Alex Wagner, Chris Hayes, Ed Schultz and Joy-Ann Reid will be there to connect with viewers and festival goers to bring a heightened sense of community to both audiences.

This coverage, which will kick off on Friday, July 5 and run through the end of the festival, will share a venue with the Essence Empowerment Experience Stage, where festival participants and MSNBC viewers alike will be treated to intimate interactions with “icons, newsmakers, national leaders, activists, artists, entrepreneurs, celebrities, journalists, educators, and experts,” according to a release from Essence Communications and MSNBC.

“MSNBC’s live programming during the Essence Empowerment Experience, from the heart of the Essence Festival, underscores their commitment to broaden the national reach and impact of conversations with thought-leaders, politicians, authors, celebrities and artists who will address the critical issues facing our communities — especially those of people of color and women,” said Ebanks of the partnership.

  1. Essence of yuck.

  2. Is this the “essence” that you smell when you’re downwind from a barnyard?

  3. ^^So you guys think that the “essence” in Essence Festival; America’s largest African American musical and cultural event; is ‘yuck’ and smells like a ‘barnyard’?

It’s good to know your true feelings about African American’s and their music and culture. 😉

  4. Fritz, I was commenting on the choice of “contributors”, MSNBC being the barnyard, you humorless fool. You have zero idea what my feelings or opinions are about race.

By the way, Chris Matthews and Ed Schultz may be two of the whitest guys on TV.

  5. Just what black people need, MSNBC progressive pandering.

  6. Watch out, Larry. Fritz will call you a racist for saying “black,” and not the new politically correct “African-American.”

Personally, many of us indians find “Native American” to be offensive. Another term dreamt up by the Ward Churchill crowd. We prefer “indians”, “natives,” or the tribal name.

  7. “I was commenting on the choice of “contributors”, MSNBC being the barnyard,”

^^ Ohh, I guess I just missed that in your comment. Sorry! 🙂

“Just what black people need, MSNBC progressive pandering.”

^^Yeah, a cable news network (MSNBC) supporting a minority cultural event is definitely pandering. We sure can’t have that.

  8. You aren’t a bit sorry, Fritz. You pull this sh*t all the time.

  9. This minority culture can stand on its own feet without such gimmicks. Those who think it requires special treatment, guidance, and “petting” are the real racists.

Nice to have porno-cat return from the alley.

  10. Trying to think of something more predictable and boring than the usual suspects throwing a fit over coverage focused on women and/or minorities. Nope, can’t come up with anything…

  11. “You aren’t a bit sorry,”

^^ Sure I am Nixon Your meaning was crystal clear once I saw the context. 🙂

“Those who think it requires special treatment, guidance, and “petting” are the real racists.”

^^ So anyone that supports “special treatment” (by supporting the Essence Festival) for “this minority culture” (I assume you mean African Americans) is a racist? I’m glad you cleared that up Larry. I guess you can call me a racist (because I support the Essence Festival) – along with most Americans.

  12. Most American’s have no idea what you’re talking about. We Irish are quite satisfied with one holiday a year which most American’s can wrap their arms around with a green beer and without the paternalistic help from race-baiters from MSNBC.

  13. LIberals created a government bureaucracy that in effect concentrated blacks in ghettos, locked them into support programs that discouraged individual initiative, rewarded them for the wrong behavior, and made them view themselves as perpetual victims. Little being cultivated by rewards for a vote. That’s the essence of progressive defacto racism. Slavery of another color.

  14. But maybe it will boost MSNBC ratings which fell to a seven year low:

  15. Larry. Try not to panic.

  16. First rule: DON’T PANIC!

  17. carolmr Says:

FNC and CNN are covering the press conference of the Oklahoma governor. MSNBC is not.

As I’ve said in the past, the Left suffers from a holier-than-thou mindset which sees blacks as nothing but votes. As actual people, they see them as at most a curiosity, a novelty. Or at worst, by a name very popular in the past with Democrats.

  19. All this BS about some TV time devoted to women and minorities. Get a grip.

  20. This isn’t about “…some TV time devoted to women and minorities.” It’s about pandering to a designated group.

  21. ^ It’s about reaching a designated group. If you haven’t noticed, the white one is reached pretty much all the time. Turn the channel and get over yourself.

  22. ^
So much for everybody being equal based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Of course, the Left likes to treat these “people of color” as personal pets. Their version of Paris Hilton’s dog, but with voting rights. They don’t see them as people, or at least, not full people.

  23. Yeah, along with being a perfect a$$ about it, you’re also wrong.

  24. That’s right, Joe. The politics of division has worked so well for this country. Pit one group against the other and then sit back and watch the fun. That is the Left at it’s finest. And you know it.

Severe storms coming in. I’ll fight with you about this tomorrow.

  25. ^
    Make that “its.”

  26. MSNBC is doing some shows about and for women and minorities, and for anybody else who cares to tune in. Try not to have a heart attack.

  27. The bigger picture Joe, of what that horrible group you belong to, has done and is doing, is always worth reminding people. That twit Fritz standing on his moral-superior soapbox started it off. Nixon and I got on ours. Can’t speak for him, but I say for me, if you don’t like it, lump it.

  28. Larry, considering that I have mentioned in the past having two heart attacks, Joe was showing his true sadistic self. It’s so typical of the left.

  29. Sorry, mate..I didn’t hear or remember that. It’s a variation of the phrase “try not to panic”, not a literal reference to a known condition. Contrary to popular opinion, I’m not sadistic. On Mondays.

  30. No, Joe, you’re sadistic every day of the week. And a racist. And, rumor has it, a vivisectionist.

  31. I actually didn’t remember you had two heart attacks. I had one, which was plenty. Joe is just an idiot and a moron. Which is plenty too.

  32. At least Joe isn’t a porno-obsessed cat. So he’s got that going for him.

  33. With the ratings of MSNBC being at a 7 year low last week, you’ll will now get basically nothing for having their ‘on air talent’ at your event. Don’t give them any free stuff, it’s the only reason they are there.

  34. Looking forward to it …..eat ship Faux if you don’t like it don’t watch and sthup you Fas**t teatard trolls

  35. ^ speak English, bastard.
