Flying High…

Variety’s Brian Steinberg writes about the success The Kelly File is having (and Hannity too)…

According to figures from Nielsen, in the third quarter, “The Kelly File, “On The Record” and “Hannity” – all holding forth in new time slots – have increased viewership in audience between the ages of 25 and 54 in the double-digit percentage range: “Kelly File” and “On The Record,” scheduled at 9 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, have seen those ratings increase 29%, while “Hannity,” now airing at 10 p.m., has seen its ratings in the demo increase 26%, all when compared to the third quarter of 2013.

“Kelly File” has also increased its total viewers and viewers between 25 and 54 at 9 p.m. over “Hannity”, according to Nielsen. Total viewers at 9 p.m. have 24% between October 7 and November 26. Meanwhile, viewers between the ages of 25 and 54 have increased 18% in the same period of time.

  1. Never underestimate the appeal of egregious crap on television.

  2. Remember when people claimed the move was a slap in the face of Hannity & Van Susteren and they were only pretending to be happy with it?

Remember when people on this blog fumed about the success of Sean, Greta and Megyn?

Two points for the first. Zero for the second.

  3. Perhaps because most of us are expressing an opinion, and not looking for “points”.

Of course Megyn’s show is getting ratings.
It’s 60min of liberal bashing on a conservative news channel.

Oh wait it’s a news show and she is a news anchor not giving an opinion.😛

“If you watch O’Reilly, you hear a lot about what Bill O’Reilly thinks,” she said. “Sean Hannity, same thing. But you’re not going to hear what I think.”😛

“I’ve never wanted to be an opinion host, and Roger Ailes hasn’t wanted me to be an opinion host,” she said. “I don’t think I’d be very successful anyway. I’m not an ideologue, and I think you have to be successful in a prime-time opinion-based show. I think I’m too moderate and reasonable.”😛

Right she’s not ideologue and not giving an opinion.
The segments on her show being all liberal bashing speak for themselves.

  5. The Kelly File is “hot blonde shouts righty stuff”; A Current Affair/Hard Copy tabloid crap wrapped around the news. And she lied about it. But ratings!

  6. Aw. Somebody is sad that Ms. Megyn is kicking ass.

  7. Gosh, another episode of ‘Missing the point’. So surprising.

  8. icemannyr Says:

We get the point. FNC did not lose any ratings adding and moving shows around.
My point is any show bashing liberals on FNC is going to get ratings. That’s why Megyn gets high ratings and Hannity kept his ratings.

  9. I’m on record – many times – saying that Megyn has done excellent work on election nights. I’m also on record as looking forward to what I thought would finally be a show in FNC primetime geared to a wider audience, i. e., something a liberal like me could actually sit through.

My “sad” is disappointment. Megyn Kelly can do work far above the crap she is slinging here. She decided not to bother. That’s disappointing.

  10. icemannyr Says:

Joe, that brings up a good question.
Should someone who does a nightly liberal bashing show be the co-host of FNC’s election coverage?

  11. I watch Kelly File most nights. I won’t pretend that it’s straight news, or even that it’s much “news”. Not seeing what’s so difficult to understand about that.

  12. Joe, that brings up a good question.
Should someone who does a nightly liberal bashing show be the co-host of FNC’s election coverage?

It’s a moot point because MSNBC uses liberal commentators for their election coverage. It also deflects from the central point, which is that The Kelly File was/is dishonestly presented. Apparently Megyn thinks her viewers are stupid, and judging by the lack of criticism from the MSM over this..she’s right.

  13. icemannyr Says:

We all understand what Megyn is doing and why.

All I want is for Megyn to be honest about what her show is,
a conservative news talk show that criticizes liberals.

Don’t lie saying you are going to be doing a “news “show and be an anchor/moderator when that’s not what the show is.
At the very least she was being dishonest.

  14. And Megyn gets a pass because Rachel Maddow calls herself a journalist — which Rachel gets criticized for every time she does. Megyn gets a pass because the “About us” page on the old MSNBC website, said the network was a news channel.

Of course Megyn’s show gets enormous ratings. Any conservative program is going to get enormous ratings… because, for some reason, y’all like to watch that crap all day and be angry all the time.

So your nearly-hourly complaints are all based around something said 6 months ago and haven’t been changed/re-commented since then.

Don’t you think it’s about time to make a NEW argument?

  16. “Nearly-hourly complaints” is what the open threads get about Obama. My posts are much less frequent.

Obama is not getting a pass for his “If you like your plan…” lie why should Megyn get a pass for false advertising?

  17. I think your posts about Megyn Kelly have become boringly repetitive. So what? No need to be on the defence so you should just own ’em and not worry about the criticisms. But if you do want to spiff-up your nightly liturgy a bit then maybe try stealing some of Pam’s exclamation points.

  18. If you’ve ever had a liturgical exclamation point, you know how painful it can be.

It’s a moot point because MSNBC uses liberal commentators for their election coverage.”

^^It’s only a point in that many people here and in the media, including FNC and their supporters, have complained mightily about MSNBC using partisan hosts for election coverage.

They argued that MSNBC should be more like FNC who used “news people” as election coverage anchors. When Kelly was on Dayside it was easy to hide her political views; but now that she is obviously an PT opinion host can she continue to host election coverage?

Personally I have no problem with her hosting election coverage anymore than I had/have with Maddow and others hosting it on MSNBC. I’m not a purist so I say any cable news net should be able to use their anchors as they please. My only caveat is they don’t argue they’re “news people” and not opinion hosts. That’s just being a hypocrite.

  21. I prefer exclamation points to capital letters, not that I won’t use capital letters if I feel necessary.

And I don’t know what the heck a “liturgical exclamation point” is.

  22. savefarris Says:

but now that she is obviously an PT opinion host can she continue to host election coverage?

We obviously won’t know the answer to that question for another 11 months. So let’s wildly speculate and make accusations until then!

  23. “So let’s wildly speculate and make accusations until then!”

    ^^That’s why were here farris.

  24. “I think your posts about Megyn Kelly have become boringly repetitive”
If I said that once, I said it a thousand times.😉

(Queue the repeatedly boring “Gee, cable blogging on a cable blog” refrain)

  25. I prefer exclamation points to capital letters, not that I won’t use capital letters if I feel necessary.

They’re fine, I was just teasing. As I do.

  26. It’s only a point in that many people here and in the media, including FNC and their supporters, have complained mightily about MSNBC using partisan hosts for election coverage.

Good points, Fritz. And what’s really irritating is this will not come up when Megyn turns herself into a news anchor again for Election Night. The dreaded “liberal MSM” has a nasty habit of taking FNC at their word about how they balance news and opinion, and it’s bollocks. Most of their news blocks are littered with conservative talking points – like Bret Baier agreeing with Steve Doocy that the Iran deal was “awfully convenient” – and they get a complete pass on it. The same will happen with Megyn.

  27. Much as in life ‘points’ are better than ‘caps’. I’m not sure why, but they are.

  28. Perhaps because most of us are expressing an opinion, and not looking for “points”.
