What’s on your mind?

  1. Darrell Issa is on FNC to announce, wait for it…

Another hearing on the Obamacare website.
Don’t worry about getting Obamacre fixed let’s have more useless hearings.

  2. Manny, we’ve got to get RID of this! 0bama has lied about the following:

    1. Keeping our insurance
    2. Keeping our doctors
    3. Keeping our prescription coverage
    4. The fact that 0bamacare would cost everyone an average of $2,500 LESS than what we were currently paying.

NONE OF THESE ASSERTIONS, REPEATED BY OBAMA ON A CONSTANT BASIS, ARE TRUE!!!!!

And why shouldn’t Issa look into the website? It was commissioned on a “no bid” basis, to people who have failed miserably in the past. Apparently one of Michelle’s pals own the company, or something. Every aspect of 0bamacare needs to be decimated.

  3. I forgot why I came here!

Have you guys ever heard of someone starting a response to a sentence with “so”, on a constant basis? Some PhD named “Nicole” something or other was just on with Jenna on Fox, and she answered every single question beginning with “so…”. The first time I heard this was with a guest a few years ago on O’Reilly, and it seems it’s some “Gen X” type of language that has just come about in the last couple of years. Very strange.

  4. “President Barack Obama’s health agency said it has spent $319 million building an online health-insurance marketplace through October. ”

“What the estimates don’t include is the around-the-clock effort to repair the website, which hundreds of thousands of Americans found unusable after its Oct. 1 debut.”

More than $300 million for a website that experts say should have cost around $5 to $10 million?

    What’s going on?

We can investigate the matter while the executive branches fixes things. One doesn’t stop the other. Sure, the Republicans play politics and abuse their oversight authority; what’s new? But that doesn’t mean we should just shrug our shoulders.

    Source: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-12-10/hidden-obamacare-website-costs-show-lack-of-transparency.html

  5. Is there anyone who works at the WSJ who does not dislike the Obama administration?
Every guest who comes on FNC is bashing the Obama administration.
Did they get rid of all liberals when Newscorp bough it?

  6. “Have you guys ever heard of someone starting a response to a sentence with “so”, on a constant basis?”

^^It’s the new version of “like”. I hear it all the time and just think the person is using it as a short delay while they figure out what to say. It`s a bad habit though especially if you want to appear on TV as a pundit.

As for Obamacare I say investigate till the cows come home. It’s here to stay so knock your self out.

Issa, though, is a special case. Maddow did a segment last night about his ‘on the road’ hearings where he takes a bunch of Repub congressmen to some state to hear ordinary people’s complaints about their experiences with Obamacare. Trouble is if you have had a good experiences with Obamacare you can’t speak at the hearing. They only want the bad experiences.

The local (and now national) press are pointing out this quirk in the supposed fact finding hearings. It’s just a tad embarrassing when your big road trip to find out the “truth’ about Obamacare is laughed at as a joke.

There’s plenty to complain about with the ACA rollout and even parts of the plan itself. The thing is the Repubs can’t just deal with the real problems. They need to compare the Obamacare to things like slavery and communism to please their base and thus make any real arguments they have about the ACA sound ridiculous. Good news for Democrats.

  7. Fritz, 90% of the public doesn’t care about the Republican’s showboating those hearings. They tune it out.

What they don’t ignore is whether the site works, whether their insurance goes up, and whether Leno or Letterman make jokes about it. Probably not in that order.

Republicans keep hoping that they can catch Obama in a scandal; and liberals keep hoping that the Republicans overplay their hand. In reality, the public doesn’t care a bit about either one. They only care about the bottom line. And if the Administration doesn’t fix this, that’s what the public will be angry over.

    For good or bad.

  8. I can’t stop laughing from the lower third that was just on FNC.
“Megyn Kelly gets grill by Jay Leno.”😛
Yeah he really asked her tough questions like why her show is all about bashing liberals.

  9. That’s grilled.😛

  10. “http://tinyurl.com/orqhr6l”

    ^^LOL

  11. “What they don’t ignore is whether the site works, whether their insurance goes up, and whether Leno or Letterman make jokes about it.”

^^ I pretty much agree with all your points Erich; particularly the Leno/Letterman bit. The thing is a year or two from now most of the “problems” will be fixed and we won’t be talking about the ACA much anymore. Then not even Leno or Letterman will care.

  12. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    He’s from Joisey, waddaya expect.

  13. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

The thing is a year or two from now most of the “problems” will be fixed and we won’t be talking about the ACA much anymore.

The only way to fix that mutt known as Obamacare is to neuter it.

Notice how the Left, including Obama, was more than pleased to call it Obamacare until it turned out to be crap. Then the word was sent forth to the minions to call it the Affordable Care Act.

  14. Fritz, well the bottom line will be the costs. And availability or choice. Americans like, no they love, choice.

If two years from now people are still seeing major increases in the cost of their insurance and, more important, fewer choices to have, then things might be dicey.

  15. I’ll agree MHP saying “Obamacare” is a racist word created by whitey is nonsense.
She would be right in saying it was a negative word used by conservatives until even the President started to use it.

Maybe she’s just saying that to get attention from FNC like she did for her Lean Forward promo.

  16. New spin from FNC. Oabma hates Hispanics because the Spanish version of the ACA website had a two month delay.
    Fair & Balanced.😛

  17. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

“MHP” also said that children belong to the state. Mabye she’s a not-so-useful idiot.

I’ve read her book. The woman is boiling with hate.

  18. I just woke up and MSNBC is babbling about the president shaking someone’s hand at the funeral. I remember when I used to think 24/7 news coverage would be a good thing…

  19. – MHP –

No. She said children are not solely the responsibility of their parents; that the society they live in is also responsible for providing a safe and prosperous world for them to grow up in. This is a very simple “my brother’s keeper” concept, which most adults readily understand without freaking out.

  20. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Joe, it wasn’t just someone, it was Raul Castro. Most people are offended by crap like that. The Left, probably not.

  21. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Joe, she said that the kids “belong to the collective.” Try to explain it all you like, but when taken in context of other things she has said and written, the only question is what type of communist she is. If you can’t understand that, that’s your problem.

  22. I know what she said, and what the “it takes a village” concept is. Most thinking people were able to handle it without screaming COMMUNISM.

  23. “Fritz, well the bottom line will be the costs. And availability or choice. Americans like, no they love, choice.

If two years from now people are still seeing major increases in the cost of their insurance and, more important, fewer choices to have, then things might be dicey.”

^^The thing is Erich that costs will go up and choice will be variable whether or not you have an ACA or not. Once the stories of those benefitting from the ACA, probably 5-10 to 1, are known things will look different to the majority of health care users.

There will always be people who are losers with the ACA; it’s just not a big number as a percent of the population; perhaps 1-4%. Thing is that’s still a few million people.

  24. The last time Nixon parroted lies about what Harris-Perry said and was called on it, he lied and claimed that he only put quotation marks around something that isn’t a quote because he didn’t know how to italicize.

  25. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I know what she said, and what the “it takes a village” concept is. Most thinking people were able to handle it without screaming COMMUNISM.

Joe, you have zero authority to claim what any thinking people understand. But don’t hesitate to insult away, that is what you seem to do best. But, read her writings. It will give you a perspective into her thinking.

  26. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

The last time Nixon parroted lies about what Harris-Perry said and was called on it, he lied and claimed that he only put quotation marks around something that isn’t a quote because he didn’t know how to italicize.

Nope, I never did figure out how to italicize. Now, where did I lie about her?

  27. Joe, you have zero authority to claim what any thinking people understand. But don’t hesitate to insult away, that is what you seem to do best.

I have absolute authority in a free country to express my opinion. But thanks for playing.

  28. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Joe, you have the right to your own opinion. That’s it. It’s the same with all of us. We can only speak for ourselves.

  29. For at least the third time, “belong to the collective” is not a quote. Infowars / The Daily Caller / The Blaze invented it, because apparently the actual content of the 30 second MHP promo in question wasn’t good enough. Again, the transcript:

““We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.”

The last time I pointed this out, you stated that you only used quotes for your, uh, paraphrasing because you hadn’t figured out the italics thing. Now, months later, you’re correcting Joe by again using quotes that aren’t quotes. You’re a liar, and the comments here are again worse off because you’ve returned.

  30. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

So much for Spud’s rules against personal attacks against other posters. I stand by my comments about her.

  31. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

By the way, gnome, I think that you may have me confused with another poster. I believe I started posting after her ad.

  32. Spud can moderate his blog however he sees fit, and obviously can do whatever he wants with my posts, account, etc. It’s worth it to point out to those reading that you have come full circle from a) lying to cover up lies to b) “I stand by” my repeated lies, even if the third lie contradicts the second lie and so on.

  33. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Whatever, gnome, whatever. I still think that you have whatever post from way back when that you credit to me confused with someone else. But, as a famous woman once said, “What, at this point, does it matter?”

And, remember, I tell the truth, even when I lie.

  34. Here’s the last time you misquoted her and I pointed it out:

    https://insidecablenews.wordpress.com/2013/05/01/free-for-all-050113/

Here’s you in the next Free for All asking how to italicize because you were inadvertently ticking some off by misusing quotation marks:

    https://insidecablenews.wordpress.com/2013/05/03/free-for-all-050313/#comments

Anyway, I apologize to everyone else for the hijack. I recognize why bothering to confront this stuff is always a mistake.

  35. Meanwhile..HI MISSY!!

  36. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Nice to see that you are so obsessive that you archive old posts. I completely forgot. I stand corrected. But, I do appreciate the name calling; it seems to be your true calling. And, I still think she is, at the very least, a Marxist.

And, I promise to Spud that I will not be the one to dip into insults and vulgarity. Nor will the racial slurs of some, so enjoyed by them in the past, run me off like before.

  37. I had a laugh when Gretchen said this and it got a write up,

Fox’s Gretchen Carlson: Cure for Cancer ‘Won’t Be Covered’ Under Obamacare
    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/foxs-gretchen-carlson-cure-for-cancer-wont-be-covered-under-obamacare/

  38. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    Meanwhile..HI MISSY!!

I agree, Joe. I always enjoy her posts. They make me smile. Missy was my oldest daughter’s name.

  39. And, I promise to Spud that I will not be the one to dip into insults and vulgarity. Nor will the racial slurs of some, so enjoyed by them in the past, run me off like before.

Pro Tip: You can’t claim to not “dip into insults”, then use the next sentence to insult an imagined “some” as purveyors of “racial slurs”. Pick one.

  40. youtube.com/watch?v=W5FfJ89rGPc😛

  41. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I think you know exactly what I mean, Joe. Remember when I was told that we had no right to call ourselves “redskins?” Let’s simply leave it in the past.

Leave it in the past. Let’s start with a clean slate.

  42. Nothing “leaves things in the past” like bringing them up. First rule of marriage, I think.

  43. “Leaving it in the past” doesn’t work if you bring it up. Nobody mentioned “racial slurs” or “redskins” but you. You don’t get to bury the topic by bringing it up and turning it on people who have long since forgotten the whole thing. So the choice is yours: Drop it, or we’ll do this again. I’m not going to be accused of racial slurs without a fight.

  44. Todays 4pm host on MSNBC is Ari Melber.

  45. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Joe, I was simply stating the reason I left. I thought that I made it clear that I was forgetting it, dropping it, leaving it behind.

And, Joe, I don’t think you meant it the way that I took it. You aren’t the type to resort to racial slurs. Again, I apologize for any misunderstandings in the past.

  46. ^ Accepted. How ’bout that weather, eh?

  47. Ari was on yesterday, too. I don’t see them moving the new guy off The Cycle, so this isn’t an audition. It appears they’re going to keep shuffling subs through until Farrow is ready. Bleh.

    Suppressed memories?

    I love The Smoking Gun!

  51. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

  52. “Ari was on yesterday, too. I don’t see them moving the new guy off The Cycle, so this isn’t an audition. It appears they’re going to keep shuffling subs through until Farrow is ready. Bleh.”

^^Yeah that looks like the plan. I like Ari but he’s a bit stiff for my taste. But then as long as it’s policy wonks and not radio yellers like Bashir I’m OK with whomever they use.

  53. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Fritz, mabye they are having second thoughts about Farrow. It wouldn’t be the first time a network got cold feet. From what I’ve seen, he’ll be OK, as long as they don’t toss him out there saying, “You’re on your own, Kid.”

  55. The constant critics of FNC sound almost panicky these days as as Obama’s ineptitude has stripped the paint off of liberalism, and management at MSNBC show their true colors.

Oh, see what FNC did in the last ten seconds… and WSJ too… and how dare that Issa… oh my, oh my, oh my!

  56. Elian Gonzalez is back in the public eye as Cuba’s communist regime makes a publicity push in connection with his 20th birthday and first trip abroad. How time flies. No hope he’ll defect as now he WILL get better health care in Cuba.

  57. If it’s ok to point out that MSNBC was the home to Bush bashing for no WMDs and Katrina then it’s ok to point out that FNC is running a campaign to bash Obama about Obamacare.

There is no reason that FNC’s 4pm-11pm shows need to have almost every block be about Obamacare.
Most of the time it’s not even anything new being discussed.
There has to be other things that could be covered.

  58. O’Reilly is whining about Al Sharpton and Karen Finney because Al’s show played the clip of O’Reilly saying Mandela was a “Great Man, But He Was a Communist”. Bill says they took it out of context.

He also wants an apology because Finney said I bet O’Reilly has never been to Soweto, South Africa and he has been there.

Does anyone really care about this except for O’Reilly and his ego?

If MSNBC is such a low rated network as Bill says why does he care what they say?

  59. Bill O’Reilly “Let’s all be happy we don’t live in Pakistan alright and half of Pakistan is here driving cabs in NYC. They’re here and I’m happy they’re here. They are better of here than over there.”

Way to be a stereotypical bigot.

He wants Al Sharpton fired for only playing “Great Man, But He Was a Communist” but stereo typical jokes about Pakistanis driving NYC cabs is ok.

  60. In the real world, people complain on a cable news blog about specific FNC segments because it’s topical and interesting. Oh, right, it’s because Obama’s approval numbers are down. My bad.

  61. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen on Megyn’s show to bash Obama for shaking the hand of Raúl Castro.
Where’s a guest from the liberal side to defend the handshake?
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen says Obama knew it was going to happen.
This woman is a joke. Does she not know she is taking away from Megyn’s time to bash Obama care?
Biased embarrassing one sided segment on a straight news show.😛

  62. one good ObamaCare bash deserves another. WaPo points out today under Afforable Health Care, patients requiring chronic care such as AIDS treatment can expect cuts.

The problem isn’t FOX being mean. They couldn’t bash enough if they bashed 24×7 and sent out singing bash-a-grams.

  63. I swear. Even most of the righties I follow on Twitter are like, “Uh, he was being polite to an old man at a funeral. Get over it.”

  64. my rule is only shake a commie’s hand at a funeral if he is laying in the coffin.

  65. My rule is don’t tell Jay Leno you’re a straight news anchor, then run a propaganda “Obama loves the commies” piece on your “news show” the next day. Maybe she’s just protecting her audience..

  66. My rule is do unto Commies before they do onto you. It’s Golden.

  67. Mark Hannah made a good point that the Mandela event was more of a celebration. There was music performances and the people in the stadium were dancing. It was not some solemn ceremony.

Conservatives already have the Obamcare rollout mess yet they want to distract from that with talk about a handshake and photo?

Megyn playing the clips of her on The Tonight Show saying she’s “A straight news anchor.” “I don’t pander to my audience.”.
I wonder if her crew is laughing?

  68. her crew loves her as much as her viewers, except those that watch to toss out the same tired old criticism

  69. Megyn doubled down on the statement that she is a straight news anchor doing a newscast.
While it’s annoying to some we have every right to criticize her for that.

  70. The Wellstone funeral was quite the celebration.

  71. criticize away, you have all the right in the world. As do I to say its repetition that dulls the point.

  72. CNN won’t use guest hosts to do AC360 Later and instead is airing a rebroadcast of AC360 at 10pm.

This is the problem with CNN, you start a new show and then whenever Anderson is not in NYC they don’t do the show.

  73. When it comes to The Kelly File, you might as well change the channel, Ice: Nobody’s even disagreeing with you anymore. She’s intentionally and bizarrely lying about what she does for a living, and both sides of the aisle have given her a pass on it. The conventional wisdom seems to be, “Eh, it’s Fox, and Megyn is pretty.” The end.

  74. I’ve seen the “selfie” and “handshake” photos shown on a number of news outlets including local broadcasts that aren’t anywhere close to being labelled “conservative”. The news business loves controversy even if they create it themselves.

Greg Palkot’s hard-news report played on the Fox broadcast network, btw, simply noted that “the president can be seen shaking hands with the Cuban leader.” Such a meeting is certainly newsworthy. Palkot’s report did not mention the selfie, which is not newsworthy IMO.

  75. What’s amusing is that she knows how to be a “straight news anchor”, and demonstrated it quite well on Election Night. Funny how that got lost, on the way to prime-time.

  76. I’ll give Megyn credit she’s no unprofessional clown like Hannity who won’t let a liberal guest answer a question and starts name calling.

Just for laughs I watched Hannity’s segment on the President’s handshake. When the liberal guest Fernand Amandi gave a good answer about why the handshake was not a big deal Hannity turned into a discussion about the the President’s middle east policy in Egypt and Iran using the same old line should we make deals with the Iran President who said “Jews are the decedents of apes and pigs” and asks if was it smart to give F16’s to the Muslim brotherhood backed Egypt goverment.

When the guest does not agree with him that it’s a bad idea he calls Fernand Amandi an Obama sycophant.

Say what you want about MSNBC when there is a conservative guest on for a debate segment on their opinion shows the hosts don’t usually resort to yelling name calling as much as Hannity does.

  77. I can’t get that worked-up over the ‘selfie’. We’re living in a time when most people are carrying a camera in their pocket, and they’re going to take pictures at times when “We didn’t do that in my day”. And Presidents of the United States are just as impressed with ‘celebrities’ and Heads of State as the rest of us, so we might want to get over it.

  78. taking a picture of your favorite subject is not unexpected.

  79. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

The Wellstone funeral was quite the celebration.

Doing “the wave” was really over the top.

  80. There can be a non political debate about if taking the photo is appropriate. Even the local news did a segment on it.

The handshake however being complained about by conservatives is silly and taking away from more important issues such as Obamacare and getting a budget approved.

  81. -Megyn Kelly-

I disagree, but only around the edges. I think viewer-driven topics will be the way of television news discussion programmes for the foreseeable future. I think most have been doing it already to a lesser degree. For me, anyway, it’s incredibly boring.

She didn’t actually give her own opinion on minimum wage with Leno last night, either. Leno argued his legitimate take on it and Kelly presented a legitimate down-side to that policy. Whether or not trying to guarantee a liveable wage for those who have to survive with these jobs will offset the burden that will be placed on these same people because there will be fewer of these jobs is a political question best decided with eyes wide open.

Of course, technology will likely replace many of these jobs so within a few years this may become an increasingly moot question.

  82. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen on Megyn’s show to bash Obama for shaking the hand of Raúl Castro.
Where’s a guest from the liberal side to defend the handshake?
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen says Obama knew it was going to happen.
    This woman is a joke.

The woman was born in Cuba, the family forced to emigrate when she was seven. She’s had a number of relatives disappear into Castro’s prison camps, some never to be heard from again. I’d cut her a whole lot of slack.

That said, Obama really had no choice but to shake his hand. However, if I were he, I would’ve said something to the old Commie. “Bastardo asesino” would do fine.

  83. -Wellstone funeral celebration-

Funeral celebrations are a tradition in my family. Wellstone’s was a political rally. To each his own.

  84. Al, you are incorrect. Jay asked Megyn her take on minimum wage, and she gave an example of people who work on commision as “the right way”, i.e., a “what the market will bear” wage. She didn’t just oppose raising it, she specifically advocated not having a base wage.

  85. Yes Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is entitled to her own opinion. She is not entitled to her own facts.
To basically say Obama knew Castro was going to be there and handshake was planned is comical.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen used this simply as a chance to bash Obama as she does at 4:24. Plus she ends the segment by telling Megyn “You did great on Leno.”😛

It’s not asking much to also have someone on to give a differing opinion to that of Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

    video.foxnews.com/v/2921003283001/ileana-ros-lehtinen-on-optics-of-obama-castro-handshake/

  86. Hope he washed his hand before he shook a decent person’s.

  87. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Yes Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is entitled to her own opinion. She is not entitled to her own facts.

Why isn’t she entitled to the same courtesy as the Left on this board? I’ve seen a lot of lunacy passed off as reality.

Obama knew Castro would be there. However, he couldn’t avoid the receiving line. It’s called diplomatic protocol.

  88. Pretty much like Neville Chamberlain shaking the hand of Hitler.

No, I didn’t say that, John McCain did.

  89. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Hope he washed his hand before he shook a decent person’s.

If you look closely, he squirts some hand sanitizer on it.

  90. You never want to go Full Hitler.

  91. Maybe it was sponsored by Purell?

  92. example of people who work on commission

Right. That was to Leno’s “separate wage for kids starting out” point, not the general question.

  93. Right. That was to Leno’s “separate wage for kids starting out” point, not the general question.

Not right. Leno gave his POV, then Megyn said “I can see both sides”, then gave hers. She made no allusion to playing devil’s advocate: They both gave their opinion on minimum wage. Megyn’s was different from Jay’s.

  94. I just watched Leno’s interview of Megyn Kelly again. No, I’m not wrong. She did not take a position on minimum wage. She did speak of “evidence to the contrary (according to the WSJ)”, she did turn it around to ask Leno what he thought the minimum should be, and she did say that she liked how she did it by selling on a “1-800” line as “Rachel” in her early 20s. That sounded to me as mostly a set-up for her punch line – something like “With this voice right now I probably sound like I could do a ‘1-900’ line.”

  95. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    O’Reilly rips dishonest Sharpton/MSNBC editing

MSNBC (and NBC) has a very long history of “creative” editing.

  96. Al. “I like how we did it when I was working commission in my 20’s” is a preference. That is what an opinion approving of one way over another is: A preference. She told us the way she thinks people should be paid. A base wage was not in the equation. Period.

  97. You’re reading way too much into that, Joe. Leno recited how he worked at McDonald’s when he was 15-1/2 making $1.25 an hour and he wasn’t very good at it but did learn work skills. “But I think there should be a minimum so kids can learn how to get into the work force.”

“See, I like the system when I was in college and took my summer jobs either teaching aerobics”…. “and I used to do telemarketing on the side. And that’s a job where you get paid depending on how good you are.”

She didn’t say this, but I’m guessing she likes it because, going back to an earlier statement made during the interview, she paid her own way through law school. “Rachel was VERY good at selling.” She was not advocating anything; she was telling a fun story about herself.

  98. Yeah, no. What you described is the difference between Jay’s minimum wage and Megyn’s strictly merit/market-based approach. Which is the standard conservative free market concept in position to a minimum wage. She clearly expressed a preference for that concept.

  99. ‘position’ = ‘opposition’

  100. Btw, I never did figure out the 900 number joke. Apparently we were supposed to picture Megyn Kelly on a sex talk line. What a gal!

  101. As Obama and Castro shook hands in South Africa, authorities detained about 20 dissidents in Havana who gathered to demonstrate on International Human Rights Day.

    Though…where did Cameron go?

  103. Megyn and her show are a huge success. Seems the few on this blog that actually watch her, can’t stand her. That actually is pretty funny. I seem to be in the happy group that only watch what they like.

DOCTOR, IT HURTS WHEN I DO THAT.

    DON’T DO THAT.

  104. Has anyone watched The Independents on FBN? I’ve watched it both times it’s been on and I like it. Larry, I only watch what I like, too. Kennedy is a riot and they really criticize both Dems and Repubs equally. It seems to me they are even harder on Repubs. They really are independent. As Joe (?) said, we really don’t need another talk show, but this one really is different.

  105. Thanks Carol; will give it a look-see.

  106. The young forced to pay for high premium and high deductible (that means worthless) ObamaCare will shake off any lingering attraction to the fraud that is liberalism. BS read twice still reads with a stink.

  117. “Tonight on ‘The Factor’
Al Sharpton and Co. twist and distort O’Reilly’s commentary! Will NBC News take action?”

I hope MSNBC does nothing because Sharpton did nothing wrong.
The clip of O’Reilly was not edited. They just did not play the full comment.
MSNBC used this, “He was a communist, this man. He was a communist, all right?”

They did not use the full comment which is,
“He was a communist, this man. He was a communist, all right? But he was a great man! What he did for his people was stunning!… He was a great man! But he was a communist!”.

  118. ^ You’re serious, right? Yeah, taking people’s comments out of context is totally fair, and I know we’re all okay with it when/if Hannity does it.
MSNBC won’t do a thing, just as they didn’t with Olbermann. I don’t know why O’Reilly is even bothering, if only from that standpoint. MS is a swamp, and they like it that way.

  119. The only person who cares about this is O’Reilly.

O’Reilly stereotyping Pakistanis as NYC cab drivers is a bigger issue that no one seems to care about.

This is now the second time he’s called them NYC cab drivers.

  120. Al Sharpton doesn’t work for NBC News. If Billo wants to freak out about a guy on a low-rated show on MSNBC, God bless him.

  121. YEP, God bless him

  122. Joe, the promo for tonights show starts with “NBC News Deceitful?”
Actually FOX News is deceitful as Al Sharpton works for and does a show on MSNBC.
    http://www.foxnews.com/fnctv/

  123. If he’s billing MS as “NBC News”, then that’s dishonest. As with so much of Fox, he can’t just go with the facts as they exist. They always have to sweeten them up, a little.

  124. That sounds about right, Ice. Those biased, BS promos irritate me more than anything else on FNC. The Announcer Voice has always been considered a neutral arbiter in network ads. Fox is the only one who uses it to promote the propaganda of whichever host’s show it’s promoting. If O’Reilly wants to lie about who Sharpton works for, the promo carries the lie. That’s not cool.

  125. What I love is when Announcer Voice sets up a segment to be much more contentious then it really is. So, the coverage is more-or-less balanced, with O’Reilly perhaps taking a more “liberal” view, but the tease says otherwise. Can’t let the audience think that the story might be straight, that wouldn’t do..

  126. ^ I guess “Megyn Kelly and Marc Thiessen agree about stuff! An EXPLOSIVE CAN’T MISS KELLY FILE!” lacks punch.

  130. “The Five” takes a break from Obamacare bashing starting the show with Greg complaining about a Greenpeace ad about climate change featuring someone as Santa that as Greg says scares children. 131. Was the regular producer of “The Five” off today?
They did an entire show without one full block of Obama bashing.
I guess since Obamacare is going to be on every show from 6pm to 11pm they did not have to.

  132. Ice, I generally agree with your complaints about FNC, but now you’re lamenting that they didn’t do something that bothers you. C’mon, man..that’s not legitimate cable news criticism.

  133. It was a joke and true.

  134. Ah, the old “just kidding” defense. No, now you’re just posting negative stuff about Fox even when there’s nothing to post. This hurts your credibility as much as a person who insists on posting nothing but positives about them like a silly fanboy.

  135. Who you calling silly😉

  136. Actually it was an observation that The Five was able to go a whole show with out one block all about Obama with some sarcastic comments.

It was not a complaint that they should have covered Obamacare.

Anyway I’m still correct that all the other shows 6pm-11pm are doing multiple Obamacare segments.

In the second segment Kurtz and Goldberg are on to talk about NBC and Al Sharpton.
Goldberg says fire Sharpton and Phil Griffin. Kurtz says fire the producers who allowed the clip to be used.

Bernard Goldberg made the point I have, maybe the MSNBC hosts do things just to get the attention of O’Reilly and get free promotion.

Let it go Bill you are the only one who cares what MSNBC does.
Plus as Bill says MSNBC has no ratings so not many people even watched that segment. The only know about it since Bill is talking about it.

  153. “O’Reilly is still saying Al Sharpton works for NBC News.”

So Paul Krugman doesn’t work for the NYT?

  154. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

NBC is the parent of MSNBC. But don’t tell anybody, it’s a secret.

  155. the last three letters of MSNBC are NBC but that just might be random.

  156. NBC News is a division of NBC. The parent company of both NBC and MSNBC is NBCUniversal, which itself is now the step-child of Comcast Corporation.

Because we know from past public statements regarding disciplinary measures taken by MSNBC, its talent is required to comply with NBC News employment rules. Thus, O”Reilly’s claim that Mr. Sharpton works for NBC News is a reasonable interpretation in context with his purpose of making the claim. Whether or not the rest of what Mr. O’Reilly claims about Mr. Sharpton is valid I don’t know. Don’t care, either.

  157. We all know that NBC and MSNBC have the same owner.
Al Sharpton does not host a show on NBC News. He works for MSNBC. Bill can say NBC News or Hannity can say NBC News Host all they want and that is not correct.

Getting a chance to watch One America News as their newscast is being shown on AWE and overall it’s very low budget compared to AJA. some of the OAN reports come from the AP.

  159. WWE used to be WWF before they merged with WCW which was really the residue of the NWA.

  160. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    I miss the XFL.

  161. Excerpted from a TV Newser article by Jordan Chariton dated 12/11/13:

A former cameraman for MSNBC’s “Daily Rundown” with Chuck Todd is suing NBC, claiming he was fired as a result of age discrimination.

“In a federal lawsuit, George Hyatt, 60, alleges he was fired by an NBC News Washington Bureau supervisor who he overheard talking about the need to bring “young blood in here.”

Apparently he works for MSNBC. Or maybe he works for NBC News at MSNBC? Either way, a cameraman for Chuck Todd’s Daily Rundown on MSNBC is disciplined by an NBC News supervisor. The network’s spokesman said that “NBC News does not discriminate on the basis of age in making employment decisions,” Note that he did not say “MSNBC”, where the guy worked.

I’m thinking Bill O’Reilly, the blow-hard that he may be, probably knows better the structure of operations over at MSNBC/NBC News.

  162. Anyone who thinks Al Sharpton is a member of the operation presented as NBC News is delusional. Chuck Todd is a member of NBC News, and also does a straight news show on MSNBC. This really isn’t that hard to sort out.

  163. There was an article on here some months ago about Sharpton getting an exception in his contract to one of the employment rules of NBC News so he could continue with his activism stuff.

Excerpted from the MSNBC – Executives page of nbcumv dot com:

    Phil Griffin
    President, MSNBC
    NBC News

  164. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    Phil Griffin is obviously delusional.

  165. Al wins, as is generally the case.

  166. You’re using technicalities and semantics to back up FNC’s BS about where Al Sharpton works. His show is on MSNBC. He works for MSNBC.

  167. Yeah, looking around I’m seeing that there is NBCUniversal News Group under which is both NBC News and MSNBC. MSNBC remains a separate corporate entity for purposes of stock divisions because it once had shared ownership, and it could be sold off if Comcast ever wants to. For operational purposes, the corporate structure has MSNBC being treated as a division of NBC News.

O’Reilly is correct. Darn. This would be much more fun if he was wrong.

  168. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Actually, Al was using what are called FACTS.

  169. The “corporate structure” is not how Sharpton’s show is presented, and O’Reilly is disingenuous to demand that NBC News deal with him. It’s an opinion/activism show on MSNBC, and Phil Griffin is the Rev’s boss. And O’Reilly full well knows this. He does this crap for a giggle, with his silly audience giggling along. It’s stupid.

  170. I don’t know whether O’Reilly’s beef with Sharpton has merit or not, nor do I care. It’s beyond me why he gives a rat’s what they do over there at the other cable channel. Nonetheless, he is correct in that it’s the folks at NBC News, which includes Mr. Griffin, who call the shots at what happens on MSNBC.

  171. What’s stupid about the Sharpton segment is it wasn’t necessary. They didn’t need to shorten the clip, or make cracks about which South African town Bill visited. The repeated BUT HE WAS A COMMUNIST pleas to Santorum were plenty weird enough in context.

  172. Cutting through all the crap, Joe, I believe you’re telling me that Bill O’Reilly is outraged at Sharpton ostensibly because Sharpton ran a shortened clip showing O’Reilly looking dumb, and you say Sharpton’s edit isn’t what made O’Reilly look dumb. Other than thinking that maybe O’Reilly was really more irked because the shortened clip didn’t give him as much ‘face time’ as he felt he deserved, I can’t argue against your point.

  173. Al Says: NBC News is a division of NBC.

That’s very well written Al, but given that O’Reilly’s sole “purpose of making the claim” is to undermine the credibility of the broader NBC News operation, I don’t find much “reasonable” about it. Given the intermingling between the two, it’d be sensible to use a gaffe or instance of bias on programming MSNBC presents as straight news to ask questions about NBC News as a whole. But in a context in which NBC has recently taken further measures to differentiate between the two, nobody seriously views Al Sharpton as an NBC newsman. If I watch Keith Morrison creeping it up on one of those trashy Dateline murder mysteries, I’m not drawing conclusions about Brian Williams’ sensibilities. That’s the inference they’re trying to draw. If it’s actually about who calls the shots, might as well refer to him as “Comcast host Al Sharpton”.

It’s obvious why O’Reilly and Hannity take glee in making the dig. But even divorced of all motive, it’s obtuse and needlessly imprecise. For instance, Peggy Noonan writes columns for The Wall Street Journal. I wouldn’t find it anything but embarrassing and childish if a competing paper began citing her as “News Corp columnist…” or “Dow Jones writer…” in an attempt to avoid correctly identifying her work.

  174. “In other nondisclosure news, the House Oversight Committee turned up letters Wednesday showing that HHS ordered the private contractors partly responsible for the Healthcare.gov fiasco not to cooperate with congressional investigations or hand over documents. For no pertinent reason, HHS reminds them that they signed contracts obligating them not to share information with “third parties.” ”

‘Cause, ya know – we can’t let anyone REALLY know what a FU this thing is! Talk about the arrogance of this administration. Disgusting – there is no other word for it.

  175. No one wins more than Al… except maybe me.

  176. From Bernard Goldberg: ” Well, you understand that there was a former president of NBC News who said we do news here on this side of the street and they over there at MSNBC are our editorial page”

Thus, my Krugman analogy. The nbc news people are all over msnbc. Msnbc people are always on MTP. To pretend msnbc isn’t part of nbc news is silly.

Nbc news has suffered because of the insane rhetoric that comes out of msnbc. Obviously, people equate the two.

The sheer existence of the Megyn Kelly Santa Claus segment was bad enough. Hayes devoting an entire block to rebutting it the next night isn’t the “Fox News = racist” gotcha he intended it to be. It’s an indictment of his editorial judgment. This was the guy who made Up special by showcasing serious, weighty topics never discussed on cable news. The guy who when he started his primetime gig feigned that he wasn’t worried about Fox because he never watches it anyway.

Aisha Harris’ Slate piece was poorly framed, lazy fluff. It should have been passed over with a collective yawn, not doubled down upon as if her argument is remotely coherent or sound.

  197. Kimmel was mocking Megyn and Monica Crowley for saying Santa is white then did a joke about FNC re doing the promo for “It’s Wonderful Life.” as “Mr. Potter and the Commies of Bedford Falls.”

We know FNC finds the Obama jokes on the late night talk shows hilarious as they play them often.
I wonder how they react when the jokes are about them?

  198. On her old show Megyn Kelly would routinely play the clips and laugh.

  199. It was a minor article by a young African-American lady about a personal experience from her childhood. Somehow Megyn managed to turn it into some kind of Black War On Christmas, and threw “white Jesus” in there for good measure. That is bottom-feeder crap television right there.

  200. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

By the way, St. Nicholas was white. A Greek. http://www.biography.com/people/st-nicholas-204635

I’m sure that some will still want to argue about that.

  201. Yes, they discussed St. Nicholas on All In with the author. This was an interview which actually discussed the point of the nice young lady’s article, which maybe Megyn could have tried if she was really so worked up about it. I suspect the author would have shown up. But no, “the black people wanna change Santa” was way more fun. Stupid.

  202. Megyn was also deceptively promoting as another “War on Christmas” segment about people wanting to do away with Santa which was disingenuous to what the article was about.

  203. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

A number of years ago on an episode of Family Guy, Stewie was placed in a foster home and had the kids of various races at each other’s throats over what color Santa is.

It’s always a subject good for laughs. I did like the penguin angle, especially since there are no penguins at the North Pole.

  204. Is this the article that suggested Santa Claus should be a penguin?

I’ve hired black Santas for work events in the past. All the kids seemed just as excited. That was years ago, too.

  205. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I think so, to be honest, I lost track.

Kids don’t care what color he is. They don’t become bigoted little a-holes until they get older.

  206. Wow you mean Chris Hayes actually had the author who wrote the article on to explain her opinion instead of talking about her like Megyn did?

The other funny part of the Santa segment was Megyn telling kids that Santa is white.
As Kimmel said, what kids are up at 9pm watching FOX News Channel?

Also funny is Megyn did not have one African American on for the segment.

  207. The bottom line for me is this: It was an article that a decade ago would have remained on the page of a website for a small group of people to read or ignore. Today it’s a thing that makes the rounds of Twitter, then our stupid media decides that because somebody is talking about it on Twitter, it must be worth discussing on the TV. So now we have a stupid debate about the color of Santa, with left and right picking a side. Everybody happy now?

People talk about cats on Twitter, too..

  208. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

People talk about cats on Twitter, too..

    #mrow

  209. Unfortunately some of these cat stories end up on television news, too. Not just cable, you’ll see the same stupid story make its on every channel. Worse, if I happen to be commuting to Virginia that day I’ll see all of them there again, too.

This is not just an American conspiracy, either, because I’ve watched those same damn clips play in Toronto.

  210. I hate when some of the words I’ve typed vanish.

  211. That’s funny, I see all of them.

  212. savefarris Says:

It was a minor article by a young African-American lady about a personal experience from her childhood.

You see kids, in joe’s world, you’re supposed to ignore young African-American women. They’re minor players and thus shouldn’t be paid any attention.

  213. Hollywood should make a heartwarming family movie about a black Santa. Would be a nice change from the parade of self-pity slave and butler abuse wallowing or white villain killing westerns. Just keep Spike Lee, Danny Glover, and Harry Belafonte away from it as well as condescending all-white progressive elves.

  214. ^ Congratulations, Megyn. This is your world now.

  215. It’s our fault that someone advocates for replacing Santa with a penguin. Why is Santa bad? Same reason obamacare sucks, I’m for limited government and Al Sharpton isn’t the permanent host on MTP…rusisms, of course.

Megyn was expressing what many people see… EVERYTHING is racist cuz white people. It’s so grossly over the top that accusations of racismistisms are now just mocked and laughed at.

Does anyone think there’s been a single weekday since Obama was elected that msnbc hasn’t accused somebody or something of being a rabicist?
