Morning Joe had on Bishop Wuerl of the Washington DC diocese this morning. As a welcome and intro to his segment the producers decided to play a David Letterman clip about atheists and them doing a Rockettes type show after the holidays.
Even Mika said “awkward” after the clip was played. This is a prime example of liberals behind the scenes at MSNBC who really hate religion.
December 20, 2013 at 7:14 am
Yeah, but it’s cool to hate religion. Well, Christianity. It’s the new thing. Everybody’s trying it.
December 20, 2013 at 8:36 am
Yeah, but it’s cool to hate religion. Well, Christianity. It’s the new thing. Everybody’s trying it.
That’s a dishonest talking point. I saw a clip this morning of Sarah Palin saying if you object to Phil Robertson’s words, then you object to the Gospel. That’s crap. I don’t want to hear that dude’s ridiculous allusions to bestiality and the other crude sexual references in that article, and it has nothing to do with religion.
December 20, 2013 at 8:41 am
Christianity is openly attacked on a daily basis in the media and pop culture. But it’s cool because jeebus.
The most bigoted comments in any comments section pretty much always have to do with anti Christian bigotry. Media people (Hello Andrew Kirell) mock and denigrate Christians daily. But, it’s accepted as enlightened instead of bigoted.
December 20, 2013 at 8:46 am
Phil Robertson isn’t a politically correct politician. His words are hyperbolic on every subject. It’s the way he speaks. He’s 67 years old and he’s not going to change just because the butt hurt outrage machine is in full affect. The people going after him ate the same ones who hated the show without ever seeing it prior to these comments. A&E didn’t even want them paying at the end of every show for fear of offending the msnbc crowd.
December 20, 2013 at 9:22 am
Well, I’m not going to argue religious comments in comment sections. I’m specifically referring to Duck Guy, and the Palin clip I just saw. I won’t get into a wide-ranging discussion of religion and the Left. That could go on forever.

I have enough to worry about because of Target. I bought a lot of Christmas gifts there with my credit/debit card.

According to the far left it is fine to attack Christianity and Judaism. But never Islam. That is considered out of bounds.
December 20, 2013 at 11:46 am
What I find irritating is that when conservatives complain about cultural rot and how it affects our kids, we’re told to ‘change the channel’. But for some reason, when liberals are offended…oh my God, it’s going to cause kids to commit suicide!, so it must be stopped.
December 20, 2013 at 11:50 am

FNC is the only network to regularly promote their show topics on the show pages.
That’s one reason why they have more viewers than all of the competition combined.
December 20, 2013 at 1:02 pm
MSNBC is poised to end the year in third place among the cable news networks in total day viewers, with a loss of 20 percent versus 2012. The network finishes second in primetime, but it has shed 29 percent of its audience from this time last year. The drops are the biggest among the cable news networks.

Megyn could do so much better if she’d just listen to her critics. Republicans too.
She needs to simply laugh them off. Her ratings are great, and her detractors will gripe no matter what.
The “straight news anchor” really seems to stick in the crops of some. Fine. It gives them something to complain about. When I was a kid, I thought Bob Keeshan was a fraud. He was neither a captain, nor a kangaroo. At least I had the excuse of childhood.
December 20, 2013 at 1:40 pm
The “straight news anchor” bit was a lie. You don’t mind being lied to, by people who ostensibly report the news. Makes for a great pair.
December 20, 2013 at 1:44 pm
“The “straight news anchor” bit was a lie. ”
Is it the cable news lie of the year? 😛
December 20, 2013 at 1:47 pm

And anyone who notices that they’ve been lied to couldn’t possibly be Republican. Yeah, that’s exactly what Fox thinks of its audience. In at least two cases, they’re right.
It gives the morally indignant a reason to complain. And, she did used to be a straight news anchor. FOX may have plans to use her as such in the future. Perhaps on the broadcast network doing the evening news, if they decide to start one.
December 20, 2013 at 1:56 pm
I don’t think she’s attracted to Maddow.

December 20, 2013 at 2:02 pm
Fox News Alert: You don’t just pick and choose when you can be a straight news anchor. Once you’ve thrown a fit over the race of Santa and Jesus, done bogus segments on ACA, and hopped up and down with glee over the thought of the Democratic Party collapsing, that “respected anchor” ship has sailed. I haven’t watched any of this New Year’s Eve crap since Guy Lombardo.
Enjoy the last broadcast:

December 20, 2013 at 2:30 pm
I remember they tried a Guy Lombardo Orchestra without him for a couple years. It was pretty depressing, and this was right about the time Dick Clark was starting. You know the rest.
December 20, 2013 at 2:36 pm
^ That wasn’t very clear. I believe Dick Clark did at least one show while Lombardo was still alive…my recollection is that New Year’s Rockin’ Eve started in 1972. There was an overlap there, with Clark’s show picking up steam a few years later.
December 20, 2013 at 2:48 pm
Actually, Bob and Kathy would be quite the team. The end of cable as we know it.

Don’t feel bad about the dates. It was clear enough. I don’t remember the exact dates, except that I was in college.
December 20, 2013 at 3:01 pm
I was 10 and distinctly remember thinking, “Another New Year’s Eve show? That’s stupid..we have Guy Lombardo!”
From Guy Lombardo’s Wiki:
While CBS carried most of the Lombardo New Year’s specials, there were a few years in the late 1960s and early 1970s when the special was syndicated live to individual TV stations instead of being broadcast on a network.
By the middle 1970’s, the Lombardo TV show was facing competition, especially for younger viewers, from Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, but Lombardo remained popular among viewers, especially older ones.
Even after Lombardo’s death, the band’s New Year’s specials continued for two more years on CBS. The Royal Canadians were noted for playing the traditional song Auld Lang Syne as part of the celebrations. Their recording of the song still plays as the first song of the new year in Times Square.
December 20, 2013 at 3:05 pm
Here’s the dumb thing about my dumb brain: I still think of Rockin’ Eve as “the new one”. 😉
December 20, 2013 at 3:30 pm
Christianity is openly attacked on a daily basis in the media and pop culture. But it’s cool because jeebus.
This is true. I don’t think evangelicals who speak openly on politics have done Christians any favors – in fact, they’ve done a huge disservice to religion when they fight for the rich and the powerful – but it’s undeniable that Christianity has been under a relentless assault from the far-left for years.
Yeah, I agree that Christianity shouldn’t be taught in public schools and I don’t think that teachers should lead prayer in classes – but it never ended there. After that, the atheists and the far-left wanted schools to punish children who prayed on their own free will. They’ve fought to have any references to Jesus or Christianity omitted from curriculums altogether but they want kids to be taught “tolerance” towards Islam and other religions.
I identify myself as a liberal and think that many of us are on the right side of things and fight for issues that matter. Sadly, there are a great many who want to wage a relentless assault on the traditional order of things. I have no problem whatsoever with marriage equality but I’m not going to openly accept the LGBT lifestyle.
And I don’t think it’s right to demonize anyone and everyone who doesn’t think the LGBT lifestyle is perfectly acceptable. Older people, religious people and rural conservatives are never going to embrace it. Younger conservatives and younger Christians will accept the fact that it’s a thing but they’ll never embrace it like the far-left wants everyone to.
December 20, 2013 at 3:35 pm

December 20, 2013 at 3:42 pm

Larry, LGBT issues are a defining issue for people who are only a couple years younger than I am. I might be young but I’m barely old enough that 9/11 and Iraq were the defining issues of my teenage years. I’ve dated girls who are only a couple years younger than I am where LGBT issues was the definitive issue of their teenage years.
This is something that’s really only evolved in the last 5-8 years. The very first time marriage equality was even discussed in a civics debate in my high school years was when Karl Rove used ballot initiatives as a wedge issue. Seeing as the Iraq war was still in it’s climax, it was a non-issue.
December 20, 2013 at 4:22 pm
+1 to Andy’s comment. There’s this movement on the left that’s trying to push liberals towards the extreme end. Same with the right and conservatives. These fundamentalist types are going to destroy America, for that matter most of the English-speaking world with their divisive tactics.
December 20, 2013 at 4:33 pm
The far left should quit fighting the culture wars while they’re ahead. Social conservatives have waved the surrender flag on social issues. If the left wants to keep it up, they’re going to piss off the evangelicals and, in the process, they’re going to discover that a majority of young people are unapologetically pro-life.
December 20, 2013 at 4:43 pm
Conversely O’Reilly’s phony war on christmas is comical.
He wants to take a hand full of local news stores and turn them into a national war on Christmas.
If there is a war than FOX News Channel is a part of it as they keep airing “Happy Holidays” promos daily even though Hanukkah was over on December 5th and there is no other holiday before Christmas.
December 20, 2013 at 4:50 pm
The “War On Christmas” hooey is also anti-free speech. You can’t claim to support it, then demand that some girl at a cash register say the words you want to hear. If the boss wants her to say Happy Holidays, she’s gonna say Happy Holidays. Take it to the Supreme Court if you don’t like it. And good luck.
December 20, 2013 at 5:46 pm
I would support the war on Christmas in a battle to limit the playing of carols in stores to a maximum of three days.

bans on g*y marriage continue to go the way of Jim Crow laws as New Mexico and now Utah become the latest states to legalize the practice. So… A & E asked Phil not to talk to much to reporters. See article:
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-duck-dynasty-ae-warned-phil-robertson-about-speaking-out-too-much-20131220,0,7276941.story#axzz2o7LGQqzN
My question is? Did Phil “talk to much to the [GQ] reporter” (while they were out and about on 4 wheelers (I’ve read), with no publicist in sight – though I heard she was waiting for them)
because A & E told them to stop saying “in Jesus’ name” at the end of their prayers? All because it might “offend” someone?
I’m thinking this whole comment wasn’t as off the cuff as we were led to believe. “Stupid” Phil, who heads a multi-million $ company maybe played A & E knowing that if he spouted off and said something that would break the morals clause of his contract it would get him out of reality show that stopped being reality for him (them).
You know, some producer probably said “stop being so G** damned religious! We could play to an even bigger audience if we got that aspect out of the show.”
My own speculation.

Comment from a MD on this NYT article:
“I looked at these plans for my patients and neither one had an option that was better than what they already had; one has Cobra and the other has a small business plan. In both cases the deductibles in the Exchange were higher and the premiums were higher. I had been a big supporter of Obamacare up until I saw the details. My conclusion is that the insurance companies have been given free rein to charge what they want and cover what they want so it’s to their advantage not to the patient’s advantage. These plans are expensive or have huge deductibles. The only plus side is if you have no insurance at all at least this is something.”
December 21, 2013 at 9:20 am
A vulgar paraphrase of a Biblical norm.
No, see, it’s not that at all. The reason Bill-O’s commentary on this has been noteworthy is that he’s one of the few figures with a ‘Christian’ perspective who has bothered to point out that Robertson’s juvenile posturing is a perversion of Biblical teaching, and a complete misrepresentation of Christ’s message.
http://video.foxnews.com/v/video-embed.html?video_id=2956614201001
This is the problem among many on the right. The frequent problem on the left is hypocrisy. If he/she is one of us, it’s okay, let’s just ignore how stupid or vile they are. On the right it’s a total inability to delineate between real traditional values and backwards ignorant anger.
December 21, 2013 at 10:02 am
If they did it to break the contract, it’s genius. I also appreciated Goldberg’s comments about the Left defending trash like Miley Cyrus. They’re perfectly happy to see the culture go down the toilet, and kids inundated with bad messages, as long as it pisses off conservatives.

According to Entertainment Weekly Phil Robertson’s suspension will end on Jan. 15th; before the start of next season shows. Because last season is finished and rebroadcasts aren’t covered by the suspension; no DD shows will actually not be broadcast.
The suspension appears to cover a period when there is nothing to suspend. Kinda like suspending an athlete during their sports off season. Glad we worked that out. 🙂

WHY the MSM stopped reporting the Colorado shooting:
http://bit.ly/194wE92
December 21, 2013 at 1:52 pm
According to Entertainment Weekly…
The thought crossed my mind yesterday but seemed far too cynical to type it out loud. Robertson’s was a GQ interview – which seems outright weird to me all by itself – that included a question that everyone including A&E already knew how he would answer and could have predicted would eventually be asked… conducted just early enough before Christmas that fall-out from the subsequent controversy resulted in millions of dollars worth of Duck Dynasty retail products to fly off the shelf before the post-holiday discounts kicked in.

Hi everybody! Oh..still talking about Old Duck Guy? Is there a dumber, more boring story in the history of everything? Bye!
December 21, 2013 at 2:28 pm
…and O’Reilly as well for that matter) can’t hold their noses and bring themselves to tow the ‘conservative’ instinct…
Bill O’Reilly is demonstrably not a conservative, nor does he claim to be.
complete misrepresentation of Christ’s message … is the problem among many on the right.
Arguably true if you include “among many on the left” because it is many religious who hold these views and that includes plenty who routinely vote the Democratic ticket. Some refer to this group as “social conservatives” but that’s simply a mask used by some liberal politicians who run for office in heavily religious districts or by liberals as a device to conflate “religious” with “conservatism” for political advantage.
December 21, 2013 at 2:38 pm
This is the problem among many on the right. The frequent problem on the left is hypocrisy. If he/she is one of us, it’s okay, let’s just ignore how stupid or vile they are. On the right it’s a total inability to delineate between real traditional values and backwards ignorant anger.
The right’s reaction is as hypocritical as it gets. If Phil Robertson had said liberal things and gotten “suspended”, the right wouldn’t give a single quack.
Hardcore conservatives constantly call for boycotts of the “lame stream media”. They demanded Martin Bashir’s head and then, when liberal MSNBC fired him, they tried to say “the left” defended him. Um, no, many liberals condemned Bashir’s comments and wanted him fired. This is what they do and have done for years. Liberal says something, liberals condemn the commentary, conservatives get offended, conservatives call for the liberal to be fired and then go around and say liberals defend it.
I also saw Newsbusters try to claim that the media has condemned Phil Robertson and defended Martin Bashir. Also BS. Most of the media coverage I’ve seen, they’ve defended Phil Robertson. And Martin Bashir was condemned by a whole lot of people.
Then there’s the whole Dixie Chicks thing. Now, conservatives are trying to say they didn’t call for boycotts and didn’t want them banned from airwaves, they just refused to buy their records. That’s revisionist crap. Those girls were torched by the media. I remember conservatives protesting them, burning their CDs, calling for radio stations to ban them from their airwaves and so on. There hasn’t been a public lynching of an entertainer that’s even come close to the way those girls were lynched by conservatives and the media which, at the time, was serving as Bush’s cheerleaders.
In fact, just about anyone and everyone who didn’t support the Iraq war was silenced. Egregiously so. And those of us on “the left” had to deal with years of being told we hate our country.
Let’s not forget “Freedom Fries” and “Freedom Toast” while we’re at it.
You can support Phil Robertson all you want. But you don’t get to revise history. Conservatives are just as anti-free speech as Liberals – if not more so.

Think there is any truth to this?
http://t.mediaite.com/mediaite/#!/entry/meet-the-press-reportedly-in-jeopardy-as-nbc-looks-to,52b5c490b7d8d24162bd95bc/1
Doubt it. NBC News does have an image problem though – one that’s not necessarily fair. A lot of people equate NBC News to MSNBC – either because they see the peacock on MSNBC or because Fox News constantly says MSNBC is NBC News. Add in that David Gregory is a horrible moderator and should’ve been replaced a long time ago.
NBC News is going to have to reign in MSNBC. And David Gregory’s got to go. Chuck Todd would be a better choice though that would irritate the far-left who hates him because he goes on MSNBC and calls Democrats out. Kelly O’Donnell would probably be an even better host.
December 21, 2013 at 2:49 pm
NBC News is equated to MSNBC because NBC News operates MSNBC. NBCU can change this tomorrow if it believes this to be a serious enough problem.
December 21, 2013 at 2:57 pm
A&E is going to let this hate-speech man go into a Christmas marathon and all next season new shows as well as sell his merchandise? What exactly are the principles they are standing up for? 40 lashes with a wet noodle?
But folks, Black Santa is just crying for us to get back to him and his demand for a fake apology. Black Jesus weeps for the fading outrage. Damn these duck people to blazes!
December 21, 2013 at 2:58 pm
I also appreciated Goldberg’s comments about the Left defending trash like Miley Cyrus. They’re perfectly happy to see the culture go down the toilet, and kids inundated with bad messages, as long as it pisses off conservatives.
The extremes of both sides only want to spite the other side. “Obama Care” is perfect evidence of the left wanting to spite the right. The left should’ve turned their backs on “Obama Care” when our dumbass president sold out on the left and worked behind their backs to kill the public option. But the right didn’t like it so they still pushed for it and rammed it down our throats. It was more important to spite the right and get a “victory”. Our loss.
December 21, 2013 at 3:00 pm
Bill Maher lost his show after Ari Fleischer said “people need to watch what they say”. The Dixie Chicks lost their career after massive boycotts which got them yanked from country radio. Both cases are a matter of free speech and its consequences, but neither side has a claim of purity when it comes to demanding the heads of media people they disagree with.
December 21, 2013 at 3:03 pm
I thought the Dixie gals got a baked magazine cover and a boost to their career?

December 21, 2013 at 3:08 pm
– Black Santa –
Quit trolling with your race-baiting BS.
– Dixie Chicks –
They got a Rolling Stone cover and one hit song on pop radio out of that mess. Their career as one of the biggest country acts in the nation was over, and so was the rest after that song. The band no longer exists.

December 21, 2013 at 3:11 pm
I’m not clear where this “Left defends Miley Cyrus” idea came from. There is no left/right divide over some pop singer, and much has been written about her strange performance at the AMA’s, plus concerns about her emotional state. This is a strange choice for an ideological argument.
December 21, 2013 at 3:11 pm

No, but Anthony Weiner was a Chixie Dix.

You keep running these bizarre attacks against people who didn’t appreciate Megyn’s little stunt, and I’ll keep responding. “Black Santa” is race-baiting over a topic we’re not even discussing, and I’m not going to put up with it. You really do not understand “knock it off”.
December 21, 2013 at 3:14 pm
neither side has a claim of purity
Absolutely correct. I think the larger point should be that these “faults” are not rightly attributable to either “side” as a whole, but to individuals within both the left and right. We generalise far too much.
Earlier I commented on “religious” being used for political advancement of liberal politicians in religious districts. I think that’s correct, but Sarah Palin is a good example of “religious” being used for the advancement of conservative politics… and/or herself.
December 21, 2013 at 3:15 pm

I saw a ton of it. There are all sorts of columns about how Miley’s performance should be celebrated because she was a woman confident with herself, denouncing her critics and so on. I had left wing bloggers telling me I needed to support her because she was an unapologetic liberal.
Mika Brzezinski’s the only person I saw on the left who had it right. To be honest, Mika’s reaction was perfect and nailed it. Miley’s got problems. She’s not healthy – mentally or physically.

The part where the angry guy acts out.
December 21, 2013 at 3:23 pm
I don’t think the Dixie Chicks were shunned and put out of business by the right as much as they were by the cultural South. Patriotism is an “ism” that runs strong among hard-core country music fans.. even in Canada.

This “free speecher” is. She said something incredibly insensitive and stupid (probably after a few pre-flight drinks), and has already lost her job over it. We’ve all said something we regret. She apologized; it’s over.
December 21, 2013 at 4:09 pm
She’s right – almost like the LEFT wanted an angry mob to attack her when she arrived. Made a snap joke about aids no worse than the new Whitehouse Chief of Staff made about Republicans. Both made a joke out of a deadly serious issue. He still has a job.

We agree, Joe. She screwed up and paid a big price for it. Hopefully, she’ll land on her feet and put this down to a lesson learned.

Larry, Podesta should’ve been fired immediately. Mabye the President found the reference to a mass suicide of 900+ humorous.
December 21, 2013 at 4:22 pm
I’ve decided that human flight is unnatural, and drunken airport/plane tweets are proof. The concept (and fear) freaks our brains out and turns us into idiots.
December 21, 2013 at 4:32 pm
Podesta should be fired for a stupid, tasteless comment? I thought we were done demanding firings for speech. I’m confused.

Someone with a very high position in the government comparing the opposition to the People’s Temple, a murderous cult, should’ve had the decency to resign. But, like I said earlier, perhaps Obama thinks that the mass suicide of 900+, mostly blacks, is great comedy.

December 21, 2013 at 4:43 pm
Ah, “fired” is now “should have resigned”. That’s less draconian, but I still disagree. People should be able to apologize for being stupid, assuming they don’t use the “if you were offended” or “I used the wrong word to be horrible” defense.
December 21, 2013 at 4:44 pm
why she lost her job is the issue to me. should not have.</em.
It's a private company. If they think that her comments will reflect poorly on them, they have every right to. Would I have? No. I would've let her have one more chance, but told her to watch her a$$.

Podesta should’ve been given the chance to resign or be fired. This is more than being “stupid.” This was joking about mass suicide.
December 21, 2013 at 4:53 pm
I think what Justine Sacca said could be quite funny and not at all insensitive if shared at the right time, in the right context, and with the right group of people – amongst a bunch of hard-core AIDS researchers who are all your personal friends, for example. I don’t think tweeting it to the Twitterverse is remotely any of that.
I would not have considered firing her for that unless her primary duties included “public relations”… and there you go.
December 21, 2013 at 4:57 pm
Company had every right to fire the girl, but the fact they didn’t wait until the mob dissipated to do so, …with no protocol… ugly.
December 21, 2013 at 4:58 pm
You’d think she was Shirley Sherrod.
December 21, 2013 at 4:59 pm
I thought we were fighting against “political correctness”. People have become so wrapped up in partisan bickering that they’ve completely lost their sense of humor.
The girl made a stupid, insensitive joke and got fired over it. People didn’t agree with the commentary of her joke and have no problem. And that’s all it comes down to.
“Free speech” people only care about free speech when it’s something they agree with.
Christians agreed with Phil Robertson’s remarks about h0m0sexuality and Conservatives twisted themselves in a knot to defend Robertson by saying stuff like “All he said was that he was a Christian” and claimed he was being “attacked by the liberal media for being a Christian”. Which isn’t true. The man basically said h0m0sexuality leads to beastality and said blacks were happy when they were being treated like second class citizens during the “pre-entitlement, pre-welfare” era of Jim Crow laws.
December 21, 2013 at 5:00 pm
Yes, being a PR person certainly put the PR company in a bind here. And they waited about as long as it took for her to sober up and get some sleep, which was fair.
December 21, 2013 at 5:07 pm
While the remarks of Phil Robertson and Justine Sacca can be construed to be equally crude and insensitive, their respective situations are not at all equivalent. Ms. Sacca was the company’s public relations executive.
December 21, 2013 at 5:07 pm
That’s about how long it should have taken Obams to fire the IRS lady, but procedures had to be followed they say.
December 21, 2013 at 5:10 pm
Al, when you’re a television personality like Phil Robertson is, you’re also in public relations, whether you like it or not. If a NASCAR driver got on Twitter and made racist remarks, they’d be “suspended” in world record time as well and would probably lose their ride because they represent the sport, the team they race for and sponsors. Phil Robertson represents A&E.
December 21, 2013 at 5:10 pm
In the Obama Administration Ms. Sacca might have been promoted to do PR for the improved Health Care website.
December 21, 2013 at 5:11 pm
procedures had to be followed
Leave the gun. Get the cannolis.
December 21, 2013 at 5:17 pm
Phil Robertson’s persona, both in real life and as depicted on Duck Dynasty, is exactly as the man who said what he said. That’s been his contribution to “public relations” both before and since A&E signed him on.
December 21, 2013 at 5:18 pm
NBC NEWS does a story tonight on the CHRISTMAS STORY house. My Neighbor posted a picture this morning of he and the wife visiting it. Ohio does have its treasures.
December 21, 2013 at 5:19 pm
Al and Larry, I was almost fired from a job I had, when I was 20, because I got a speeding ticket in Baltimore County. In my personal vehicle. On my day off. Even though I wasn’t working that day, they invoked crap about I still represent them and it’d be a liability and they could get bad press for it. It was overkill but the lesson I learned that day was that this is a new time… EVERYTHING is public knowledge and your employer can and will fire you if they think your actions, on your own time, can reflect negatively on them.
It’s the world we live in and it sucks. But that’s the price of technology and instant information.

You can get fired for not getting enough sleep or drinking too much (or both), too, because it affects your job. Nobody has a “right” to work. You gotta talk them into hiring you, and try not to talk them out of it.
December 21, 2013 at 5:30 pm
A&E does employee a public relations executive. If that person spoke exactly the same words as Phil Robertson during a GQ interview, then he or should be fired. And this would be the case even if that person is the same age as Phil Robertson, grew up next door to him, and still attends the same church.
There has been no rational debate about whether or not A&E had the right to fire Robertson; It absolutely does. Should they? The general consensus of most on both the left and right has answered “no”. Justine Sacca’s situation is very different and not because of the content of her tweet.
December 21, 2013 at 5:33 pm
You can get fired for drinking at a bar on a Friday night because someone could post a picture on Facebook and that company could feel that you’re representing them negatively or because that picture gives your employer the perception that you’ve got a drinking problem.
Welcome to the 21st Century. The only way you’re safe from petty stuff like that is if you’re in a union. And even then, you’re not safe. Every company has a morals clause and most companies now have clauses in employment contracts about social media as well.
December 21, 2013 at 5:35 pm
If you work for the government you can get fired for murder and disloyalty after two years of hearings.
December 21, 2013 at 5:38 pm
I always assume the only thing the company owed me was the pay check for past hours worked. You stay happier if you think that way.
December 21, 2013 at 5:46 pm
If you work for the government, you can get fired at the drop of the hat for just about anything unless you’re protected by a union. Just about everyone invokes morality clauses now. The higher profile your job is, the more careful you’ve got to be.
December 21, 2013 at 5:59 pm

I can’t deny for a second that the far-left has waged war on Christianity but let’s be honest, the fundamentalists have spent 150 years trying to infringe on the liberties of others.
The golden rule of politics: Once you use the government to infringe on the rights of others, you open the door to your liberties being infringed upon.
December 21, 2013 at 6:15 pm
This is the very reason why the founding fathers wanted religion and government to be two separate things.
December 21, 2013 at 6:45 pm
Just saw this on CNN, from this afternoon. The great thing about CNN is that I don’t have to wonder if they’re telling me the truth, or just passing something along that sounds good enough to get me worked up.

^ Conversely, whenever someone says “Here’s a Fox News Alert: More trouble for Obamacare today”, I automatically assume it’s trumped up BS before I even hear the story. They’re not helping.
December 21, 2013 at 7:05 pm
The founding fathers did not intend for public policy or government itself to be entirely free from matters of faith. We bring our faith or lack thereof with us wherever we go. They simply wanted to insure that something like “The Church” could not be used as a back-door method of thwarting individual liberties.

I have an older patient with almost no family who needs jaw surgery and has to travel nearly 50 miles to the one surgeon in the area who can accept her Medicare. She can’t drive, either.
December 21, 2013 at 7:12 pm
Hopefully she has a “helping-hands” group in her area that can drive her. We have many in Ohio that provide medical transportation. Most are church sponsored. They don’t ask for donations, but are happy to get them.

Ah, so I guess that means we shouldn’t believe CNN when they criticize ACA. Glad you cleared that up for us.
December 21, 2013 at 7:25 pm
I have someone on that to help find her a ride. Bigger issue is that there’s only one surgeon. This isn’t the “sticks”. Brought someone down for a consult hoping that together we could somehow call this “critical” and then just send her upstairs and get this done for her for free. Oh well. I tried. Damnit.
December 21, 2013 at 7:28 pm
Pirro gets it wrong saying Phil Robertson was just quoting directly from the bible. That’s not all he was doing.
She is also ignoring the comments on the pre-civil rights era.
December 21, 2013 at 7:28 pm
Ooh, personal foul. CNN wasn’t “criticizing” ACA, they were reporting on it. You know, in a way that indicates that they don’t have an obvious personal stake in how the audience perceives the story. No scary graphics, no buzzwords, none of the attention-grabbing business that you see on other networks.

“Top of last nights ratings, I LOVE LUCY.” – Larry
I’m so glad. I watched it last night and loved it. If CBS ran an uncut “I Love Lucy” every Friday night, I’d watch.
December 21, 2013 at 7:29 pm
The sad part is this is just going to get worse as the flood of low paying plans, being Medicare, Medicaid, of Exchange Specials compete for fewer and fewer surgeons and hospitals participating.
December 21, 2013 at 7:32 pm
Of course Pirro BSed it. Anyone who’s actually read The Book knows Robertson augmented his Scripture references with his own vulgar language. She’s not too bright.
December 21, 2013 at 7:34 pm
Carol, there is not a single reality show I watch, none. Sad that TV is more saturated with them than westerns in the 1950’s. Those at least I enjoyed watching.
December 21, 2013 at 7:35 pm
They simply wanted to insure that something like “The Church” could not be used as a back-door method of thwarting individual liberties.
But it was, for over a century and a half. Legislating morality, banning behavior – all because fundamentalists believed certain behaviors went against THEIR religion.
Now, they’re on the opposite end of the spectrum as the far-left wages war on Christianity. Christians feel their religious rights are under attack, and they are. It’s not right and I’m not defending it. I’m just saying, they opened Pandora’s Box.
December 21, 2013 at 7:37 pm
The Puritans built Pandora’s box. Hollywood opened it.

Robinson’s right. Bestiality is right around the comer for legalization. Kinsey reported 17% of all farm boys had sex with the animals. In today’s thinking it makes no sense to treat so many people as criminals.
December 21, 2013 at 7:50 pm
But it was, for over a century and a half. Legislating morality,
That was not the doings of “The Church”. It was legislation conducted on behalf of the will of the majority at the time. Those who hold religious views are entitled to just as much say in their government as those who don’t. It was also a very different time when even those who didn’t want to conform to any religion still basically agreed, so it’s somewhat unfair to characterise those years through the values of our time.

“Carol, there is not a single reality show I watch, none. Sad that TV is more saturated with them than westerns in the 1950′s. Those at least I enjoyed watching.” – Larry
I don’t like reality TV, either. You can still watch re-runs of westerns on TVLAND (Bonanza, Gunsmoke) or INSP (The Big Valley, The Virginian, High Chaparral). Westerns are shown all day on Saturday on INSP. It’s called “Saddle Up Saturday.” Rawhide, featuring a very young and handsome Clint Eastwood, is shown every Saturday on AMC. The Rifleman, with Brooklyn-born and raised Chuck Connors, is also shown every Saturday on AMC. Good heavens, I need to get a life.

December 22, 2013 at 4:44 pm
Fox News Sunday loaded up and sunk the Duck Dynasty story. Kraut and George Will agreed Robertson’s language was ugly and his employer has a right to suspend him; Born Again Christian Kirsten Powers pointed out the words were not scriptural. She also mentioned that the comments about African-Americans were offensive and “not covered enough”, which was a nice shot at her network: Everyone but FNC has covered them extensively. Nice work all around.
December 22, 2013 at 5:02 pm
You should see the abuse Kirsten Powers is getting on Twitter.
December 22, 2013 at 5:15 pm
– Kirsten Powers –
I can imagine. I don’t always agree with the way she presents things on FNC, but she gets a horrendous amount of abuse on Twitter..much of it quite vile. I’m sure it’s gotten worse since she established herself as a liberal Christian a few weeks ago.
December 22, 2013 at 5:26 pm

But none of them will lose their job as they hide behind a mask

December 22, 2013 at 5:43 pm
Probably not. PR Girl got it from the left. Kirsten is getting hit from the Christian right, including one genius who called her the c-word, then told her to “read the Bible”. Way to spread the love of Jesus, buddy.
December 22, 2013 at 6:08 pm
The genius who uses the c-word prolly not really hitting from the Christian right or left. Maybe he needs her to read him that Bible.
December 22, 2013 at 6:24 pm
Watching 60 Minutes. it is shot with HD cameras with no vanity filters. The production all the way to your TV set is the sharpest 1080p. So, one thing new I learned tonight is Susan Rice has absolutely beautiful teeth.
December 22, 2013 at 6:37 pm
I’ve been critical of Kirsten in the past (I can tell ’cause I just found out she blocked me on the twitters), but she’s a brave woman: A liberal on Fox News (liberals mad), who professes evangelical Christianity as a liberal (conservatives mad). This is not the easy way…
December 22, 2013 at 7:13 pm
There’s a thought.
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/greta-van-susteren-to-abc-why-dont-we-just-win-the-war-on-poverty/
December 22, 2013 at 7:16 pm
I can switch my telly to watching broadcast channels via the antenna and the HD clarity is stunning. Not to say that it isn’t quite good over cable, but the difference is obvious.
I seldom agree with Kirsten Powers yet always give special consideration to her opinions because she favours a logical approach in forming them. That she is always so honest in her assessments makes those who attack her personally appear quite foolish.
Why would conservatives have a problem with a liberal who professes evangelical Christianity? There’s a boatload of Democratic voting evangelicals around here, although their candidates risk losing those votes when they’re too pushy about abortion.
December 22, 2013 at 7:22 pm
The genius who uses the c-word prolly not really hitting from the Christian right or left. Maybe he needs her to read him that Bible.
Or needs hit upside the head with a Bible.
I learned that word was way out of line when I called my 5th grade teacher that word and was expelled. The woman and her husband were honest-to-God N@zis. Both belonged to George Lincoln Rockwell’s American N@zi Party. She loved to taunt the Jewish kids. I’m not Jewish, but have zero use for bullies and bigots. Haven’t called a female that since.
Lesson to be learned? Watch your mouth.

Nice of CNN to start the 12pm hour with real news instead of the old Obamcare bashing on FNC at the top of every hour.
Every hour on FNC starts with at least 7min of Obamacare bashing before they get to other news.

Ronan Farrow was on ‘NOW’ today with Joy Reid in as sub-host. He did a segment on Al Shabab recruiting in Minnesota. As well there were a number of excerpts from some longer piece of reporting on the same subject. He looked poised and articulate but his appearance; a cross between a young Mia Farrow and Sinatra; is a bit distracting.
I think that those who think he’s a lightweight that wants to turn his show into a hour of TMZ style reporting are in for a surprise. My guess his show will be more like Fareed Zakaria than Piers Morgan.

Harris did a long segment on Fox Report yesterday which she presented as “all these problems with Obamacare and how people don’t like it blah blah blah”, then hosted a panel which agreed with her. That’s not news.
December 23, 2013 at 1:21 pm
You can’t have a tornado flatten the entire nation and not talk about it. That’s news. You could pretend tornados are good for you, I suppose.
December 23, 2013 at 1:34 pm
Yeah, no..there are no political sides to a tornado. An Obamacare segment which is heavily negative is realistic. An Obamacare segment which is frontloaded by the anchor as “a disaster”, then has a panel which only supports this theme, is a Republican campaign commercial.

December 23, 2013 at 11:18 pm
I’m sorry that you think I’m tedious. Your response to “Fox anchors do Republican propaganda” seems to be “SO!?” I find this tedious, and if you don’t like legitimate criticism of a cable news channel on a cable news blog, there’s plenty of righty blogs you can hang out at.

New Readers
FNC is conservative in its point of view but they think they are fair in presenting the news from that view and give a balance to the more liberal point of view presented by CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, NPR, etc.
If you like to have examples of how awful it is that they do this and how awful their people are for doing this, and basically their awfulness of the minute, sit back and enjoy.

While I understand your and Larry’s dislike about the FNC posts,
people being told their posts are repetitive and complaining daily about the FNC bashing does not help either.
If either of you think someone is wrong come back with a counter point besides complaining about the FNC criticism. As Joe says this is a cable news blog.

When you post a video highlighting that you’re targeting someone because of their race, that is clearly a hate crime. The evidence is there. Next?
December 26, 2013 at 6:50 pm
Videos posted in some of the other cases.
December 26, 2013 at 6:54 pm
Children…children…play nice or I’ll send you to bed without your supper…
NOTE – I was not involved in any of this tomfoolery.
December 26, 2013 at 6:56 pm
Smart… Very smart?
December 26, 2013 at 7:03 pm

Jon Stewart did a clip-segment of cable idiots proclaiming police were on “special alert” because of the awful terrible racist knockout game. Which isn’t a widespread epidemic; has been going on amongst young morons forever; and cops aren’t on extra-super-double alert for assault crimes they already investigate. But Fox News. Thanks boys.
December 26, 2013 at 7:12 pm
CNN goes to tape and Anthony Bourdain at 9pm and 10pm.
Rachel is doing a best of show on MSNBC.
Juan Williams was in for Bill.
Shannon Bream is in for Megyn,
December 26, 2013 at 7:13 pm
Smart… Very smart?
Nah, I was out for the day. Half Price Books has their annual 20% off sale thru the 30th.
December 26, 2013 at 7:15 pm
Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart is a smirking, braying, lop-eared jackass. And I am unanimous in that.
December 26, 2013 at 7:23 pm
“When you post a video highlighting that you’re targeting someone because of their race, that is clearly a hate crime. The evidence is there. Next?”
Joe, isn’t that what’s been happening with the video postings all along? What makes this case of white-on-black different?
December 26, 2013 at 7:23 pm
Shannon Bream is in for Megyn.
And another “straight news anchor” bites the dust.
December 26, 2013 at 7:26 pm
That’s Andy’s comment, Carol. I’m not up on specific video claims of attacks. My point is that the broad claim that there’s an epidemic of black-on-white “knockout game” activity is not true. Fox made it up to generate racial animosity. As usual.
December 26, 2013 at 7:26 pm
— Bream —
She announced that on Special Report. Sigh.
December 26, 2013 at 7:46 pm
Fox made it up
The victims may beg to differ.
December 26, 2013 at 7:54 pm
Joe, isn’t that what’s been happening with the video postings all along? What makes this case of white-on-black different?
The man explicitly stated he was going to target a black person and that race was the one and only motivation for his action. It’s a textbook hate crime.
December 26, 2013 at 7:57 pm
The victims may beg to differ.
The victims of actual assault crimes gain nothing by the story be trumped up as a racial epidemic. It is not.
December 26, 2013 at 7:59 pm
The Kelly File: The new hit show where all remaining remnants of FNC credibility goes to die.
December 26, 2013 at 8:26 pm
Obsession.
December 26, 2013 at 8:27 pm
So with all this talk about Phil Robertson, knock out games and Obamacare, I’ve got to ask – what’s the unemployment situation looking like these days?
Jobs, jobs, jobs.
December 26, 2013 at 8:32 pm
Yeah, I guess people who comment on cable news on a cable news blog are just obsessed. That’s the ticket.
December 26, 2013 at 8:36 pm
James Rosen RT’d someone suggesting that he should sub for Megyn Kelly. Good Lord, I hope not. I suggested that if he’s going to host, he might do a show with a less obvious conservative bias. I’m sure he’ll get right back to me on that. Or not.
December 26, 2013 at 8:38 pm
Yeah, I guess people who comment on cable news on a cable news blog are just obsessed. That’s the ticket.
Only if they comment on the same thing day in and day out.
December 26, 2013 at 8:42 pm
The Kelly File is the biggest news in cable news in quite a while, and it continues to make news right now by plug “straight news anchors” into a Factor-style format.
Two days ago I criticized Hardball, today it’s Kelly File. This is a cable news blog. I talk about cable news on it.
December 26, 2013 at 8:50 pm
Oddly enough, the only time people get upset is when someone dares to criticize Fox. All other criticisms are ignored, applauded, whatever. If you don’t like Fox being criticized, then maybe this isn’t your place.
December 26, 2013 at 8:52 pm
If you don’t like Fox being criticized, then maybe this isn’t your place.
If my presence offends you, complain to Spud.
December 26, 2013 at 8:55 pm
Two days ago I criticized Hardball, today it’s Kelly File. This is a cable news blog. I talk about cable news on it.
My snide comment was because Megyn isn’t even on tonight. And, to be honest, I cut Matthews a lot of slack. He hasn’t been the same since his bout with malaria.
December 26, 2013 at 9:02 pm
The Kelly File was on tonight, with Shannon Bream. I commented on the show, not Megyn herself.
The Hardball show on Christmas Eve was fine. MSNBC’s decision to place it there was strange. It was a taped year-end clip show about Republicans saying The Crazy. I would not have scheduled it on that day.
December 26, 2013 at 9:10 pm
I think that Shannon is much smarter than Megyn. However, I didn’t see tonight’s show. Actually, I hardly ever watch any of the cable primetime opinion shows.
December 26, 2013 at 9:10 pm
— If my presence offends you, complain to Spud. —
No, I’m perfectly capable of responding to your pointless, unenlightening statement of “Obsession” without such measures. Try not to feel persecuted.
December 26, 2013 at 9:19 pm
No, I’m perfectly capable of responding to your pointless, unenlightening statement of “Obsession” without such measures. Try not to feel persecuted.
Calm yourself down, Laura. I don’t feel persecuted. And, if you feel that my comments are “pointless and unenlightening,” I wouldn’t read them if I was you.
December 26, 2013 at 9:21 pm
— I hardly ever watch any of the cable primetime opinion shows. —
Ah. So your purpose in life is to come here and dick around with people who do, You might have mentioned that earlier in the year.
December 26, 2013 at 9:25 pm
This “why do you always talk about Fox” thing is ridiculous. The whole point of a cable news blog is to talk about that stuff. How silly would I sound if someone chose to critique Hardball or Rachel every few days after watching it? “Hey, why you talking ’bout Rachel all the time, man!?” That’s just stupid. Pick a show I watch regularly; comment on it regularly; I’ll debate the comments regularly. That’s what this thing is HERE for.
December 26, 2013 at 9:36 pm
Ah. So your purpose in life is to come here and dick around with people who do, You might have mentioned that earlier in the year.
I watch the daytime block. I can only assume that your purpose is to harass others. You sure seem to enjoy inserting yourself in various disputes. First Larry, and now me. Well, I guess that everyone needs a hobby.
December 26, 2013 at 9:47 pm
I see Larry and Nixon are in the holiday spirit.
December 26, 2013 at 9:49 pm
That’s crap. You can’t show up and complain about people commenting, then complain when you’re confronted with it. This keeps going round and round here, and it’s completely unnecessary. You don’t even watch Kelly File, and you lobbed your bizarre little “obsession” comment at me.
Some people who’ve been here for many years remember a time when you could have actual debates about actual cable news, without this weird, defensive LEAVE FOX ALONE thing at every turn.
I intend to go right on talking about the subject of this blog.
December 26, 2013 at 9:52 pm
You don’t even watch Kelly File, and you lobbed your bizarre little “obsession” comment at me.
It was in response to the daily comments. I shouldn’t have said it.
December 26, 2013 at 9:57 pm
I see Larry and Nixon are in the holiday spirit.
I admit that I shouldn’t have posted the “obsession” comment. And, I understand why Joe was upset. Laura, on the other hand, was being Laura. Why she feels the need to be snippy and insulting in matters that don’t even involve her, I cannot understand.
December 26, 2013 at 10:02 pm
Yeah, this is the same ‘Nixon’ who basically called me racist when I was defending Michelle Obama. Same mentality, same level of intelligence. You and Larry deserve each other. Oh, and last time I checked, these were not private conversations in which I have no “involvement”. It’s an open forum, so I’ll comment on any damn thing I feel like.
December 26, 2013 at 10:04 pm
Spud, I don’t think the twins have been listening.
December 26, 2013 at 10:04 pm
Laura has been here since almost the beginning. A person with that history might have some stake in this place being turned into a trollfest where people can’t comment on a cable news show without being attacked for daring to cross the Fox Mothership. Which happens often these days.
I’ve defended other people I thought were being unfairly targeted, too, and will continue to do so. There is no Internet Law which says we all stand only as individuals. I accept your apology.
December 26, 2013 at 10:12 pm
Hi Andy. Happy Holidays!
December 26, 2013 at 10:18 pm
Yeah, this is the same ‘Nixon’ who basically called me racist when I was defending Michelle Obama.
Laura, when in the hell did I do that?
December 26, 2013 at 10:19 pm
Spud, I don’t think the twins have been listening.
They just found a new target.
December 26, 2013 at 10:20 pm
It’s an open forum, so I’ll comment on any damn thing I feel like.
That applies to both of us.
December 26, 2013 at 10:21 pm
Keep it up, boys. I’m in the right here, and I intend to stand up for it. There was no reason for this madness to start again today.
December 26, 2013 at 10:24 pm
It’s an open forum, so I’ll comment on any damn thing I feel like.
And I’ll ban you for it. Take a chill pill and step outside. You are wired a little too tightly tonight. That goes for the others as well. Knock it off.
December 26, 2013 at 10:28 pm
Yeah, Spud, I’M the problem. You can let the trolls take over, but I’m not taking that from you. Make. Your. Move.
December 26, 2013 at 10:29 pm
Agreed, Spud. I am going to let it drop.
December 26, 2013 at 10:30 pm
So, what’d everyone do for Christmas?
December 26, 2013 at 10:32 pm
I worked. It wasn’t too bad. Quiet.
December 26, 2013 at 10:44 pm
Celebrated with family and friends.
December 26, 2013 at 10:51 pm
Went caroling with the coyotes.
December 26, 2013 at 10:52 pm
What’d you do, Andy?
December 26, 2013 at 10:53 pm
Went caroling with the coyotes.
I understand that they are really good at “Jingle Bells.”
December 26, 2013 at 10:56 pm
Ate dinner with some friends and played with my new Apple iPad.
December 26, 2013 at 11:00 pm
I still don’t get tablets. I have a PC, a laptop, and a phone the size of my car. Why would I need an iPad?
December 26, 2013 at 11:14 pm
I have five laptops, another tablet and two iPhones. I can carry the iPad around and type on it with ease unlike my other tablet.
December 26, 2013 at 11:41 pm
How can msnbc.com be so nice and have a nice iPad app but NBCNews.com have an outdated website and no iPad app?
December 26, 2013 at 11:41 pm
Oh, you’re a journalist dude. You use it for work.
December 26, 2013 at 11:43 pm
Cuz NBCNews.com is the site all the MSNBC people abandoned to establish they’re own site.
December 26, 2013 at 11:50 pm
I wonder if the lack of any serious digital establishment is playing in to NBC News’ ratings woes. Their website is severely outdated and the frontpage on NBCNews.com is a mess. Their smartphone app is four years old and the only change that’s been made to it is the logo (from MSNBC to NBC News). They don’t have a tablet app at all. This stuff matters. And I can’t imagine this isn’t a factor with the ratings problems they’re having.
December 26, 2013 at 11:53 pm
Wow, I didn’t know it was that bad. Yeah, you gotta stay up with the digital or the demo will abandon you as a bunch of old farts. This isn’t helping.
December 27, 2013 at 12:08 am
It’s as if they’re not even trying. This stuff matters.
December 27, 2013 at 12:08 am
“wonder if the lack of any serious digital establishment is playing in to NBC News’ ratings woes.”
They are still the #1 nightly news program. The Today Show has their own problems, and Gregory ain’t no Tim Russert. So I would say, “no”.
December 27, 2013 at 12:15 am
The only time I see the people on the Today Show is during the Macy’s Parade and during the Olympic opening ceremonies. Actually, when Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira did the opening ceremonies, I had to turn it off after 10 minutes. The ARCA race from Indianapolis Raceway Park was much more entertaining.
December 27, 2013 at 12:23 am
CBS MORNING NEWS still in third place, but from a news POV, it’s head and shoulders above the two ratings leaders.
December 27, 2013 at 12:34 am
CBS This Morning is so far superior to the other two shows it’s not even funny. And then there’s Al Jazeera News in the morning on cable. International feed at 5am and DC feed w/ Stephanie Sy at 6am. The Today Show, New Day, GMA and Fox & Friends are worthless.
December 27, 2013 at 12:36 am
Morning Joe is crap now, too. Same guests, same conversation for years; and the “TV married” vibe with Joe and Mika gets infinitely creepier every day.
December 27, 2013 at 12:42 am
Morning What? What’s Morning Joe? Who’s Mika?
December 27, 2013 at 12:46 am
I still DVR Daily Rundown every day.
