  3. watching DAILY RUNDOWN with Chris Cillizza gamely trying to get a straight answer out of rat-looking Labor Secretary about willingness of Obama administration to make an offsetting budget reduction to extend the now expired unemployment insurance payments beyond 26 weeks. Getting nothing but talking points.

    Fun Fact:
Dana Milbank and Chris Cillizza appeared in a series of humor videos called "Mouthpiece Theater" which appeared on the Washington Post's website. An outcry followed a video in which, during a discussion of the White House "Beer Summit", they chose new brands for a number of people, including "Mad Bitch Beer" for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Both men apologized for the video and the series was canceled.

Crystal Ball said if Republicans support these lawsuits they are going to start being portrayed as against birth control. And because many Catholic women use birth control she just doesn’t understand what the big deal is.

Akron police at the time said Hendon and another teen, who was also convicted, lured the woman behind a building at Cole Avenue and Marcy Street and repeatedly raped the woman before shooting her between the legs.”

  34. Pleased my 1972 AMC Gremlin not on the Nixon list, though its younger sister was #1.

  35. MHP just gave a full and sincere apology (probably the best I’ve ever seen) for the Romney family photo kafuffle to lead off her show.
I’m not a fan of her or her show but this should end any further criticism of last weeks incident by any serious observers. Some on the right will still want their pound of flesh, but that says more about them than MHP.

  36. Only the most despicable DOJ in history would start of its new year by bullying the “Little Sisters of the Poor”. Maybe a YouTube video of Obama playing the knockout game with Bo the Dog would look more heavy handed?

  37. Fritz, I remember certain liberals saying apologies at the barrel of a gun were never sincere when conservative sinners were seeking absolution.

  38. The true apology needs to come from Phil Griffin for creating the culture of MSNBC-NASTY which prompts the vile transgressions.

  39. My understanding is that Marc Lamont Hill is now going in for therapy.

  40. MHP: that was a very good apology and I respect her for being so straight forward with it.

As the article said, having only a weekly show doesn’t allow you to respond as quickly as you might with a daily show. It is now time to move on to other subjects.

  41. I would have moved on earlier, but agree, Pam.

Griffin still has a problem of his own creation. If anyone doesn’t think there weren’t people hurt by Chris Hayes “those that died shouldn’t be called patriots” apologized for remark, they are nuts. Too many of these. WAY to many.

  43. icemannyr Says:

Larry after all the incidents that have gone on at MSNBC I have to agree that even if you don’t believe it’s a part of the culture at MSNBC the perception is there and MSNBC is not doing much to change that.

  44. The problem Ice, and you also see this on Hannity, is that the opinion shows are one-sided partisan. That leads to use of a common tool: ridicule. The overuse of that tool amps it up to nasty.

That was about as damning to MSNBC and the racial hucksters stirring the pot on other media as it can get. I think my black former-boss would agree, but who knows, he and I were so busy solving problems and working on projects race had disappeared between us.

  57. Mitt Romney this morning:

“I think people recognize, and the folks at MSNBC who have apologized recognize, people like me are fair targets: If you get in the political game, you can expect incoming,” he said. “For children, that’s beyond the line. 59. GregGutfeld (@greggutfeld) is now following you on Twitter!

  60. Tune in to “Reliable Sources” this Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern! Here’s a preview from the program’s host Brian Stelter:

It’s almost time for our first show of the New Year! We have a lot of interesting technology/digital media stories to get to, but we’re going to begin with another apology from an MSNBC host for a questionable segment. This time it’s Melissa Harris Perry saying sorry for poking fun at a photo of the former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney “with his wife and 21 grandchildren by zeroing in on his adopted African-American grandson.”

I’ll be joined by Politico media reporter Dylan Byers, Daily Beast columnist Sally Kohn and Callie Crossley, the host of WGBH’s “Under the Radar.”

Byers and Kohn will stick around for a discussion about last Sunday’s exhaustively-reported New York Times story about Benghazi. I’ll ask Thomas Joscelyn of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies why he felt the story was a “whitewash.” Here’s the column he wrote on the subject.

Also: why’d so many news outlets run with an unsubstantiated rumor that Kim Jong Un fed his uncle to 120 dogs? I’ll ask Byers.

Later in the program, the big business of tech news. This week the veteran technology journalists Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg launched a new Web site called Re/code. They’ll tell me about their plans in a live interview.

So will Gawker’s Neetzan Zimmerman. One month ago The Wall Street Journal said that “with his posts generating more than 30 million page views a month, Mr. Zimmerman may be the most popular blogger working on the Web today.” On Friday Zimmerman said he was leaving Gawker to become the editor-in-chief at a startup.

One more technology story: the future of the online video service Hulu. We’ll show the highlights of my recent visit to Hulu’s headquarters, including an interview with Charlotte Koh, Hulu Originals’ head of development.

  61. CNN does RELIABLE SOURCES no favor by not repeating the show even once.

He’s right. The hate and bile spewing forth out of that open sewer solves no purpose except to spread racial discord.

  63. icemannyr Says:

CNN keeps recycling the same taped forecast segment from Meteorologist Alexandra Steele from 2pm to 5pm and at 5pm a new taped segment is airing since the anchors changed.
I can’t believe CNN can’t have an OCM live during coverage of a big winter storm.
At least FNC uses AccuWeather or talent from the local FOX stations if they don’t have any of their own OCMs available.

  64. RELIABLE SOURCES segment on MHP:
    http://reliablesources.blogs.cnn.com/2014/01/05/msnbc-show-sparks-partisan-outcry-again/

Everyone on the panel has something intelligent to say, a rare thing for any panel. Dylan Byres terrific.

  65. FNC spent most of 2012 and all of 2013 trumping up stories about “Black on white” violence and making up their own facts to “prove” there’s an “epidemic” of “Black on white” violence while defending the guy who murdered a child in cold blood and while they were trying to scare the same group of people in to stocking up on guns and ammo because of Obama and “gun bans” — but yeah, it’s MSNBC that’s spreading racial discord. MSNBC’s rhetoric boils down to saying Obama’s critics are racist and, sorry, a lot of them are. FNC’s rhetoric comes down to telling angry people they need to go buy guns because black people are gonna kill you. So get out of my face with the race card crap.

  66. icemannyr Says:

FNC to some extent wants to keep their angry conservative audience angry.

That’s way they have people like Jeanine Pirro on who starts her show with the embarrassing acting and theatrics in her opening rant bashing the president and liberals and Hannity bashing liberals nightly and name calling.

You can disagree with the president and liberals. You don’t have to nasty about it as Pirro and Hannity are.

Rachel Maddow is able to make her point without have to be nasty.

  67. Went to pour a glass of milk and it was out of date. Thanks, Obama.

  68. “Rachel Maddow is able to make her point without have to be nasty.”

Snide and condisnding are kissing cousins to nasty.

  69. NBC NEWS doing a major piece tonight on the “knock-out game” spreading to other states and what’s being done about it. Something FOX made up you say? Well aren’t they silly then.

  70. icemannyr Says:

The “knockout game” is a legit story.
What FOX made up was making this something only done by African American teens.

  71. NBC showed almost a dozen videos. Every perpetrator was black.

  72. They did mention the only guy charged with a hate crime by DOJ: a psychotic off his meds.

  73. No, the “Knockout Game” is not a legit news story. It’s been going on for two decades now. The media’s acting like this is a new thing.

  74. That white guy pretty much stands alone. the exception proves the rule.

  75. NBC disagrees, Andy — they reported at least six states are passing new laws because of the wave, from New York to Illinois. You need to put your liberal talking points aside.

  76. A knock-out punch may soon cost the thrower 25 years and they are making the cameraman an accessory.

  77. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

So get out of my face with the race card crap.

Are you taking over the Joe role bossing others around?

Who in the living hell on FOX said to go out and buy guns because “black people are coming to kill you?”

  78. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

You need to put your liberal talking points aside.

When they no longer have facts on their side, they cling to the talking points like Linus to his security blanket.

  79. Are you taking over the Joe role bossing others around?

Joe’s not here. Leave me alone.

  80. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Welcome back, Joe. I was hoping you were lurking around and it would bring you out. How’s things going?

  81. NBC disagrees, Andy — they reported at least six states are passing new laws because of the wave, from New York to Illinois. You need to put your liberal talking points aside.

I don’t care what NBC thinks. It’s not a new phenomenon. Fox News, CNN and the internet found out about something that’s been going on for 20 years and trumped it up in to some big deal and now state governments are doing what they do best, passing new laws to “outlaw” an illegal action that’s already illegal before their new laws.

The real story is that there’s a culture of violence in our youth, across all races and genders. Talking about race and trumping up one small part of a larger problem distracts from the real issue which NBC doesn’t want to talk about because NBC’s entertainment division is part of the problem.

  82. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

The real story is that there’s a culture of violence in our youth, across all races and genders.

Scalping the perpetrators would definitely serve as a deterrent.

  83. Are you taking over the Joe role bossing others around?

Try trolling people who are actually here and actively commenting on this blog.

Who in the living hell on FOX said to go out and buy guns because “black people are coming to kill you?”

Yeah, Fox News spent a year and a half saying people shouldn’t feel sorry for the kid that got killed by some douchebag wannabe cop with a gun and an anger control problem because other black people have committed crimes. Then they spend weeks covering “Black on white” violence and even making up their own set of facts. Then they talk about how Obama wants to ban guns and have right wing radio panelists come on and tell people to stock up.

I cracked this code a long time ago.

  84. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I cracked this code a long time ago.

Listening to the voices in your head? You seem to want to fight with someone tonight, and I’m not playing along.

    http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2014/01/figures-member-of-democrat-de-blasios-team-receives-award-from-communist-party-usa/

  86. Scalping the perpetrators would definitely serve as a deterrent.

Actually enforcing laws that already exist. Inventing new laws to combat a media-hyped “problem” won’t do anything – especially since those laws won’t prevent a thing and won’t be enforced anyways.

Listening to the voices in your head?

Those “voices” are called logic. They invented the “three black people” crap about the boys who killed that exchange student and, after being called out on it, they ran with “three African-Americans” for days. They invented facts about the dude who was attacked by a mob in Norfolk. Even the chief of police said it was a minor incident and the dude who was attacked acted as an instigator (trying to act macho to impress his girlfriend most likely). It’s what they do. Granted, some of these incidents actually happen – Fox News exaggerates the events, makes up new “details” and uses a lot of hyperbole and harps on the same subject for weeks.

But I’d expect you to act like it didn’t exist. You and LK were perfectly cool with Trayvon Martin being murdered in cold blood because he was a thug or something. In fact, LK doesn’t think George Zimmerman’s killed enough kids.

  87. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Pam, the Communist Party USA also endorsed Obama in ’08 and ’12.

  88. Andy: another example of DeBlasio and his liberal cronies. This is a reason people are saying he is the most liberal mayor of NYC ever.

Andy isn’t IceManNYR. Andy doesn’t give one single care about New York City politics because Andy doesn’t live in NYC. Please redirect your post to the proper channels.

  89. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Yeah, I forgot. Zimmerman smashed his own head into the pavement. Gotcha.

  90. Pam, the Communist Party USA also endorsed Obama in ’08 and ’12.

Osama bin Laden endorsed Bush in ’04. What’s your point?

  91. “But I’d expect you to act like it didn’t exist. You and LK were perfectly cool with Trayvon Martin being murdered in cold blood because he was a thug or something. In fact, LK doesn’t think George Zimmerman’s killed enough kids.”

that was awful, Andy. Not even close to true. Let it pas Nixon. I will.

  92. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Let it pass Nixon. I will.

You’re right, Larry. Some people aren’t worth the effort.

  93. Yeah, I forgot. Zimmerman smashed his own head into the pavement. Gotcha.

Because Trayvon Martin stalked himself with a gun on his hip, right……

  94. you didn’t have money riding on the Packers today, Andy.

  95. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    ?

  96. that was awful, Andy. Not even close to true. Let it pas Nixon. I will.

    Right, you didn’t say this…

    Nevermind then……

    🙄

  98. the point was he was a white guy that went on to brutally murder people. Would an armed neighborhood watch person stopping him in his tracks not been a good thing in place of killing the Martin young man. You people all over reacted. You still are.

  99. I wonder where the talk about youth violence was when James Holmes killed 12 people at a movie theater in Colorado. Or when Adam Lanza killed 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Oh that’s right, the left was too busy blaming guns and the right was too busy trying to find a way to blame the left.

  100. Here is the guy:

A teenager has been charged with murdering his mother after she was found with a kitchen knife sticking out of her eye socket in her Florida home.
Sharon Aydelott was found dead on Christmas Eve in her home in Gulf Breeze, Fla., having been stabbed multiple times, beaten with a baseball bat and had her throat slashed, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News.

He calmly confessed to the murder when police questioned him, according to the NWF Daily News.
The teenager had moved out after his relationship with his mother broke down in September.

What does Charlie Manson have to do with it?

  102. “I wonder where the talk about youth violence was when James Holmes killed 12 people at a movie theater in Colorado. Or when Adam Lanza killed 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School”

well there was a little talk as I recall, but hardly cases about youth violence… No these people were severely mentally ill.

  103. I hereby go on record that I wish George Zimmerman had killed Charles Manson. Hell, I wish I had. And a coyote.

  104. Yeah, you two went on to talk about how a 17 year old kid (Trayvon) was some sort of thug who deserved to be killed. A 17 year old kid who smoked marijuana in high school like every other 17 year old kid in America. All because Billy Bad Butt’s anger management problem wanted to pick a fight and be some sort of hero that night.

Moral high ground. I have it.

  105. well there was a little talk as I recall, but hardly cases about youth violence… No these people were severely mentally ill.

Right. So the black kids who commit violent acts do so because of some culture problem. But white kids who commit violent acts do so because of mental issues. I’m calling bull. Let’s quit making excuses for some and talk about the real issues. Kids are violent.

Moral high ground. I have it.

You couldn’t find it with a feckin GPS receiver.

  107. Get off my lawn.🙂

  108. Andy, you can now rehash the Martin case on your own. have fun.

  109. Nothing belligerent going on here until tonight until you decided to get nasty. stop it or I report you.

  110. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Martin Van Buren was a scumbag.

  111. no he wasn’t. or maybe I’m thinking Millard Fillmore?

  112. Nothing belligerent going on here until tonight until you decided to get nasty. stop it or I report you.

Yeah, that’s it, the last several months never happened. You two want your echo chamber, you’ve got it.

  113. Reporting you.

  114. icemannyr Says:

Sorry this turned into a big argument but FNC did make it about race. Hannity and other opinion people on FNC were demanding that black leaders condemn the “knockout game” and then had to find something else to yell about when Al Sharpton and others did.

Some FNC shows also still said it was only African American teens doing this when others of different races were arrested for similar attacks.

Do FNC hosts ask white leaders to condemn the actions of Caucasians?

Not talking specifically about the knockout game,
there’s also another issue when cable channels take a couple of regional incidents and turn them into a national problem.

  115. Again Ice, NBC reported states from New York to Illinois are passing new “knockout game laws”. Facts are facts and nobody from FOX are punching people.

Since everything has been labeled racist, it has no meaning any more in a charge against FOX.

  116. Sorry this turned into a big argument but FNC did make it about race. Hannity and other opinion people on FNC were demanding that black leaders condemn the “knockout game” and then had to find something else to yell about when Al Sharpton and others did.

Not your fault this turned in to an argument and you hit the nail on the head, ice.

  117. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Ice, I’ll condemn Indians acting like a**holes. The rest of you are on your own.

And, like Bart in Blazing Saddles whose grandmother was Dutch, mine was German.😛

  118. Again Ice, NBC reported states from New York to Illinois are passing new “knockout game laws”.

Assault is already illegal. WTF are new laws going to do? Politicians on the state level are doing what they always do – taking advantage of something to pass new laws and appear “tough on crime”.

  119. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Since everything has been labeled racist, it has no meaning any more in a charge against FOX.

It is being thrown around so much everywhere, usually falsely, that it is losing all sensible meaning.

  120. I apologize to everyone who came here hoping to read about cable news and had to scroll through another whizzing contest and I apologize to you Carol for biting your head off over an innocent mistake.

  121. Nix, there’s a difference between racism and race-baiting. FNC is textbook race-baiting. And then they defend it by saying everyone else is doing it. It’s cult behavior.

  122. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I’ve seen plenty of racism and race baiting. I damn well know the difference. And what FOX does is not either. The cult behavior is on the far left.

  123. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

And, that was PAM that you snapped at.

  124. Just listen to Sharpton and Dyson for a while.

  125. Andy: my mistake. You are correct I should have directed my comment to ice.

I was watching the Badger basketball team and was distracted at times. We have the best start in 100 years for our basketball team.

  126. Andy, I forgive you, but I don’t think I ever posted on this thread.

  127. Why would anyone think Richard Engel would tow an Obama line even appearing on MSNBC? that isn’t him:

  128. Andy: my mistake. You are correct I should have directed my comment to ice.

Andy, I forgive you, but I don’t think I ever posted on this thread.

See Pam, I made the same mistake – I always confuse you and Carol.😛

  129. icemannyr Says:

Pam, you have my agreement on Bill de Blasio being super liberal. My only complaint was Megyn saying it and not giving any examples.

It’s going to be interesting as he tries to implement his tax the rich and have them fund everything plan.

Those CitiBike racks that sit on the sides of NYC streets taking away parking and driving lanes have to be moved when there is a snow storm so the the plows can move the snow.😛

  130. “MSNBC, a cable channel that has never tired of reinventing itself. Its big challenge in this fresh year is accepting the fact that it can’t reinvent its audience, a cohort of the viewing public that, according to the numbers, isn’t growing, as more people seem content to wander away”
