Target: Gabriel Sherman

In a must read The Daily Beast’s David Freedlander uses Gabriel Sherman’s upcoming book to write about FNC’s opposition research wing…

Both of the librarians described being tasked with keeping close watch on Sherman, including compiling a dossier of every story he had ever written, and providing transcripts every time he was on television.

“They are terrified of him,” said one former librarian. “We were around the clock monitoring cable for mentions of Gabe Sherman. You could have breaking news going on, a school shooting or something, and they would still want to know if people were talking about the latest Gabriel Sherman story.”

For the librarians, the task was, at minimum, disheartening, since, from their perspective, they were there to assist the newsroom, not be an arm of the public relations department. But they learned, they said, that it was best to keep quiet about such requests. As one put it, “there was an understanding that all of the requests from the media department were coming from Roger. When media relations called, you jumped.”

Although others who worked at the Fox News Brain Room said they were not asked to carry out tasks for the media relations department, one former newscaster who spent five years at the network said, “It was never clear to me what the Brain Room did. They had their own army of investigators. Certainly they were never helpful to me.”

  1. An interesting read but not a lot of new info in this article. It’s common knowledge FNC runs oppo research on anyone writing about Ailes or the network and is into dirty tricks, threating legal action and/or putting out false or damaging personal info on reporters or ex-staffers they consider unfriendly.

There is one really funny and o-so-true line, quoted from the Sherman book, about Billo; Ailes saying about O’Reilly that he was “a book salesman with a TV show”; that had me laughing out loud. It’s lines like that that will make Sherman’s book well worth a read – for me at least.

  2. There have been lots of anchors who have mentioned the “brain room” and how much they rely on it. Could it be that maybe, just maybe, theFORMER anchor has an axe to grind?

  3. For me the line about Obama politicizing the Afghanistan war along with Hilary in the new Gates book is what will make the Gates book well worth a read – for me at least.

  4. the comment about Bill
    Isn’t even mean
    a good natured joke
from the man on the scene

    what little that’s there
    Is such trivial mud
    only a chuckle for Fritz
    and catnip for Spud

  5. The subtitle of Sherman’s book, “The man who divided America” shows pretty much where the author is coming from. America was already divided, the liberal MSM just kept that hidden. Ailes gave the flyover part a voice. Bless him.

(a good comment is worth repeating)

I agree, Pam. If Obama had a conscience, this is the type of thing that would drive him to a breakdown. He send soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines to their deaths for his own personal political gain. What sort of human being would do such a thing?

  7. “What sort of human being would do such a thing?”

One that was so warped by childhood abandonment that he became a leech sapping the goodness of others for his own aims… be they grandparents or young servicemen.

Or, one who’s real mother was a red-eyed jackal and who’s real father was Satan.

  9. Sherman’s latest post on the Fox News chief talks about his fascination with the Nazi propaganda films of Leni Riefenstahl. Once someone trots out the “Nazi” card, you know they’re losing the debate.

  10. …is what will make the Gates book well worth a read

Observe: Sherman thread derailed to Gates book, comments devolve into discussion of Gates book. It’s almost like they pay you..

I wish that “they” would, whoever “they” are. I could always use the extra bucks.

^^Joe;I don’t disagree that the Gates book will be a good read; if only to put some context to the quotes being proffered by the publishers to drum up debate and thus sales. And nothing drums up debate like supposed negative quotes about Obama.

When the book comes out next week, and the full context is visible, there will be a lot less praise for Gates from the right than these quote snippets are providing.

  13. You’re confused, Fritz. I didn’t comment on the Gates book. I commented on the Gates book being introduced to a Sherman/Ailes thread in order to change the subject. Trolling.

  14. well,Fritz, the media stops will tell the tail. Gates will be on CBS Sunday Morning for an extended interview. Then I’m sure the morning shows during the week, etc.

  15. Should have read, “not that he shouldn’t”: FNC has been needling CNN.

  16. “You’re confused, Fritz. I didn’t comment on the Gates book.”

^^ Yeah I know. I was just piggy backing on your comment. Sorry.

  17. TARGET ROGER
Reliable Source conspirators sharpen their knives today. Both liberals pretending to be objective is a joke.
