What’s Hot/What’s Not: Submissions…

Post your nominations for this week’s What’s Hot/What’s Not. I’ll post the finalists on Sunday night…

53 Responses to “What’s Hot/What’s Not: Submissions…”

  1. HOT: Bridge over New Jersey waters. MSNBC keeps throwing gas on the flames. Ronan anticipation: tweet for a woody.

NOT: THE WEATER CHANNEL makes like Chicken Little.

  2. HOT: Steve Kornacki breaks a whole new Christie scandal on his show this morning. This one involves holding up ‘Sandy’ relief funding for Hoboken NJ because the mayor refused to OK a redevelopment deal involving Christie power broker David Sampson. It includes direct threats to the mayor that getting the Sandy funds were directly tied to the project getting fast tracked.

This is yet more evidence that Kornacki has done, by far, the best coverage of this story on cable news.

  3. NOT: Megyn Kelly’s lets have on and yell with Anthony Weiner stunt.

  4. “Megyn Kelly’s lets have on and yell with Anthony Weiner stunt.”

^^LOD already did this gimmick when Weiner was actually a news story and it was a disaster. Why Kelly would do it when there was absolutely no news value at all defines why it’s was a cheap stunt. Bringing yourself down to Anthony Weiner’s level is not a sign of a host on the way up.

If Howie has any balls at all he’ll call her out on it tomorrow. I’m not holding my breath.

  5. Weiner used to be a favorite of liberals. Telling.

  6. NOT: TWC back to 14.5 hours of taped programming on wekkends after whining about how important their channel is.

  7. savefarris Says:

NOT: Obamacare coverage. Nowhere near important as a bridge closing and all the stories have already been told anway.

  8. Weiner used to be a favorite of liberals. Telling.

^ Typical right wing bull sheot talking points.

  9. NOT HOT: Barrett Jackson pushed to FOX Business.

  10. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Weiner used to be a favorite of liberals. Telling.

^ Typical right wing bull sheot talking points.

It’s not “talking points,” it was an observation from the pre-scandal days when Weiner was a media darling in Congress. The party leadership would take advantage of it and put him in front of the microphones and cameras on a variety of issues.

In defense of the Dems, they had no idea of his “selfie” habit. And when he tried his comeback to run for mayor, many treated him as if he was radioactive.

  11. Andy is getting imbalanced.

  12. was Weiner any less of a Weiner before he waved his Weiner?

  13. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    Myself, I’m fairly unbalanced.😛

  14. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

was Weiner any less of a Weiner before he waved his Weiner?

My question is – Does he drive a Weinermobile?

  15. kind of a hotdog but frank.

  16. icemannyr Says:

“NOT HOT: Barrett Jackson pushed to FOX Business.”
Exactly. Your new 9pm is on for less than two months and you preempt it for a car auction.😛

  17. NOT so HOT: NJ Governor’s office opinion offMSNBC:

“MSNBC is a partisan network that has been openly hostile to Governor Christie and almost gleeful in their efforts attacking him, even taking the unprecedented step of producing and airing a nearly three-minute attack ad against him this week,” said the spokesman, Colin Reed, in a statement…
“The Governor and Mayor Zimmer have had a productive relationship, with Mayor Zimmer even recently saying she’s ‘very glad’ he’s been our Governor,” Reed said. “It’s very clear partisan politics are at play here as Democratic mayors with a political axe to grind come out of the woodwork and try to get their faces on television.”

MSNBC will put the face of anybody on TV to attract the Obama base and get their minds off the crappy President the network fronts

  18. NOT: Trashy book, THE LOUDEST VOICE IN THE ROOM

Don’t take it from me, Take it from “Z.”:

“If that kind of simplistic, historically and culturally ignorant explanation of contemporary American media and life works for you, then you will probably like this highly publicized biography from Random House just fine.”

“For all its promotional push, I don’t think “The Loudest Voice in the Room” will be long remembered — or even talked about past the short buzz life of most media these days.”

  19. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

NOT: The Weather Channel plays chicken with DirecTV, doesn’t know when to flinch.

  20. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Zurawik hits the nail on the read regarding Sherman. A sloppy, poorly researched, hatchet job. Soros should demand his money back.

  21. On HOT topic CHRISTIE-GATE

RELIABLE SOURCES: “no prompter… No prompter” three people all in agreement, #MSNBCgood #FATGUYbad

MEDIABUZZ: great arguments among three smart people who disagreed with referee Howie showing his skill. Good stuff giving all sides with no shouting and a measure of fun.

A tale of two shows: chump vs champ. No contest.

  22. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

HOT: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” – Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

NOT HOT: The politicians and hucksters that are still deliberately pitting the races at one another for political gain, and I suspect in some cases, for pure self entertainment.

  23. savefarris Says:

^”I have a dream that one day people will agree with me. And if you don’t, you’re a racist.”

  24. savefarris Says:

The New Yorker article is amazing. Despite 5 full years in the Oval, it’s stunning how uniformly naïve he remains.

  25. Grandpa Dave Says:

HOT: CNN drops International News hour/ Malveaux.
HOT: DirecTV doesn’t blink; drops TWC.

    NOT: TWC poll.

  26. savefarris Says:

HOT: Hope you like Peyton in your Manning, because Peyton is about to be Peytoned all over everyone’s Manning to a Peyton-ly absurd degree.

The last time Peyton was in New York

  27. Manning = greatest QB of all time.

Sorry, Montana, Unitas, Starr, Elway, all incredible but I think it’s Manning.

Not by a lot; but enough.

  28. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

^ starts at the top, Nixon:
    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-01-19/obama-says-racial-animus-may-soften-support-new-yorker-reports.html

The New Yorker article is amazing. Despite 5 full years in the Oval, it’s stunning how uniformly naïve he remains.

He obviously has so much resentment of his white half, that he feels the need to go overboard with his “being black.” So much for “post racial.” A much more extreme example of this pathology is the one-quarter Jewish Hitler and his obsession with “racial purity.”

He’s not naïve, he’s playing a good chunk of the populace for suckers.

  29. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

The greatest QB of all time? Hands down it’s Bob Lee. He fathered Jenna.

  30. Zurawik hits the nail on the read regarding Sherman. A sloppy, poorly researched, hatchet job. Soros should demand his money back.

    Uh…have you read it?

  31. “Uh…have you read it?”

    ^^LOL

  32. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Zurawik hits the nail on the read regarding Sherman. A sloppy, poorly researched, hatchet job. Soros should demand his money back.

    Uh…have you read it?

The uncorrected advance proof provided for reviewers. In other words, the same thing that Zurawik read.

  33. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

A review of said book from the Left: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/20/books/the-loudest-voice-in-the-room-is-a-look-at-roger-ailes.html?hpw&rref=books&_r=1

Sherman’s idea of sources for a serious biography, “Author interview with a person familiar with the matter.” Yep. That sure nails it down.

  34. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    Woody Allen speaks……mabye.

    http://www.theonion.com/articles/boy-ive-really-put-you-in-a-tough-spot-havent-i,34949/?ref=auto

  35. savefarris Says:

Manning = greatest QB of all time.

    … not named Drew Brees.

  36. Zurawik misrepresented several of Sherman’s points. Sherman’s thesis is that Ailes basically forms the voice that is then spread throughout rightwing media on most topics, including the right’s perception of Barack Obama. Zurawik presents the author as saying Ailes is the voice dominating all media, then counterattacks with the premise that Ailes isn’t even the major one on the right.

I have a hard time considering a book review from someone who doesn’t even understand what he read.

  37. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I have a hard time considering a book review from someone who doesn’t even understand what he read.

Read the book, Joe. However, don’t expect much in the way of sources. If a student turned in a research paper this sloppily researched, he’d fail the course. Sherman should’ve put the book forth as commentary instead of biography. Then, the poor source work wouldn’t matter as much. It would simply be opinion.

And, yes, I read the book. And, I would match my reading comprehension up against anyone here.

  38. My comment was about the review. Zurawik quoted things from the book, then misrepresented them and/or denied the premise. That was a partisan thrashing, not a proper book review.

As for sources, they’re anonymous, as are most sources in expose-type books which otherwise couldn’t be written. If we start demanding that all journalism rely only on named sources, we might as well cancel the news and read PR releases. Either you believe Sherman spoke to insiders who told the truth, or you don’t. It’s that simple.

  39. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Unsourced books are gossip; no more, no less. Even Zev Chafets’ book on Ailes quoted names and sources. Not all were friendly. Fun fact from the book – Ailes and Maddow are friends. He has a lot of interesting friends on the Left. Just because someone disagrees with someone politically doesn’t make that person evil.

  40. “I have a hard time considering a book review from someone who doesn’t even understand what he read.”

^^It’s not a book review Joe and the reason he doesn’t understand what he read is he probably didn’t read anything more than the stuff about the book online.

It’s just part of Zurawik’s sucking up to Ailes in the faint hope he’ll get a job at FNC. Trouble is Ailes is way too smart to hire a troll like DZ.

  41. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Once again, when someone on the Left disagrees with somebody, the person they disagree with is a “troll” and is “sucking up to Ailes.”

  42. They always assume bad intentions, Nixon, and demonize any who disagree. Being on that moral high ground, you know.

  43. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    Charming trait.

  44. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

By the way, Larry. I found the pre-publication copy of Mr. Peabody’s pet boy’s book about Ailes at Half Price Books. You’d be surprised at the stuff you run across there.

  45. Spud just can’t seem to get over this Sherman book just ain’t the book of his dreams. He used to have a little more layered meaning to a “HOT”. If even the NYT gives a review like this, he really ought to make an effort:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/20/books/the-loudest-voice-in-the-room-is-a-look-at-roger-ailes.html?_r=0

  46. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I posted that, right above the Woody Allen bit. The book is poorly sourced dreck.

  47. Missed it Nixon. damn trifocals.

  48. Yes, Spud should shut up and allow the completion of this blog’s transition into rightwing blog hackery. I’m sure he’ll appreciate the advice.

  49. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I have enough trouble with bifocals.

  50. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Who in the hell said that?

  51. Dunno… Missed it Nixon. damn trifocals.

  52. Spud always appreciates the advice of his admiring readers; he’s that kind of guy.
