What’s Hot/What’s Not: 01/19/14

What’s Hot:

DirecTV vs. The Weather Channel – The Weather Channel got dropped by DirecTV this week after the former’s contract with the latter expired.

Gabriel Sherman’s Roger Ailes Biography – Say what you will, it was the talk of the media chattering class not obsessed with The Weather Channel vs. DirecTV wars…

MSNBC vs. Chris Christie (or vise versa) – Towards the end of the week MSNBC was front and center over Steve Kornacki’s reporting on a new allegation against the Christie administration. This one has yet to play out fully.

Kathy O’Hearn – O’Hearn has been hired to EP Ronan Farrow’s MSNBC show…

What’s Not:

The Weather Channel’s Lame Appeal – In trying to rouse attention to its struggle with DirecTV, The Weather Channel launched a lame campaign trying to position the network as “must have” because it was like a public utility and safety will be put at risk if the network wasn’t kept on. Nobody outside of The Weather Channel’s employees believed this claim including DirecTV which held firm. So, now what?

Suzanne Malveaux – Malveaux has been essentially demoted…away from the anchor desk and back to reporting as CNN’s National Correspondent.

Many old timers there know that it’s bunk. Were John Hope alive today, he’d flip out and go postal.

^^True, but every day brings new allegations about Christie. The key figure in all these stories seems to be David Sampson. He and his law firm seem to somewhere in the background of every scandal.

Here’s this from that notorious right wing rag “The Washington Post.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2014/01/18/the-scandal-is-msnbc/

  4. ^follow the money.

  5. All that matters is the truth. FNC wailed mindlessly on Benghazi for a year and a half, and got most of it wrong most of the time. Now people are gonna complain about the time MSNBC has spent on the story they broke. Well that’s just tough. They actually have a story, and it’s about to break past lives put in danger on a bridge, into Sandy recovery funds for an entire town being threatened for partisan gamesmanship.

I see no reason for any media outlet to let this go yet.

It turns out FOX was right the whole time. Read this post from Pam:

Susan Rice, as the UN Ambassador is a member of the State Department. Her boss, was Hilary Clinton. The CIA may have written some of the talking points but even you aren’t enough of a fool to believe that Hilary Clunton didn’t SEE those talking points and APPROVE of them. Also, there is no way in hell that Susan Rice went on the Sunday shows just because there was no one else to do it. Hilary knew her as* would be in a sling if she went out there to spout that crap that she knew was a lie.

The testimony given said everyone knew it was an terrorist attack right away. Gregory Hicks who was on the scene said they all knew it was an attack. Are you not going to believe someone who was there? Chrissy Mathews has an agenda just as does Fox so you need to go to the document yourself and read it and not just believe all news reports.

Also, isn’t it amazing that in the whole report that Hilary Clinton’s name is not mentioned 1TIME. Just ask Diane Feinstein about that little fact. The only mention of Hilary is in the Republucan addition to the report. How in god’s name do you have the head of the State Department not even mentioned in report? Maybe, just maybe, because this report came from the SENATE Intelligience Committee? Ya think they got somebody they need to protect?

    Read the report.

^^Mayor Zimmer comes across as very credible. She was grilled hard today by Candy Crowley who went though all the GOP talking points and she answered them all without cracking. She seems confidant that Christie’s LG is a good person who when put under oath will tell the truth and back up her story. I think she may be right.

  8. Christie’s problem with trying to play the “MSNBC is just being mean to me” card is a thing called plausible narrative. When the guy who became popular with the “not gonna take any sh*t from anybody” schtick starts bleeding stories of being a bully governor, it’s not hard to see a logic to them. “MSNBC is mean to me” doesn’t mean a whole lot if people – including prosecutors – start believing that the guy who shouts at people was also blocking roads and disaster funding. Oops.

Only if you believe someone who keeps changing her story. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/195875-nj-mayor-alleges-christie-witheld-hurricane-relief-funds

“In an interview with WNYC earlier this week, Zimmer suggested that Christie withheld hurricane relief funds because she decided to remain neutral in the governor’s race — not because of the redevelopment deal.”

So, which was it? The redevelopment deal or the endorsement? Or, is she just wanting in on the publicity?

    WHAT?

    Was that?

I figured that he’d either taken too many hits to the head, was suffering from ‘rhoid rage, or was trying to impress the pretty girl by being a badass.
