What’s on your mind?

  1. Chuck Todd – Daily Rundown: does a review of political people in Super Bowl commercials. Reviews the one with Dan Quayle in it and asks “do you think he understood he was the punch line in it?”

What Chuck, Republicans, i.e. Dan Quayle are too stupid to understand when they are in a commercial about “potato chips” they don’t KNOW that that is part of the joke?

    What an as*!

  2. savefarris Says:

25 years later and they’re still questioning Quayle’s competence. And yet any reference to ’57 states’ will get you blank stares outside of Limbaugh and a few blogs.

Of course, the reason they harp on these ‘gotchas’ and not actually critique policy is because they can’t. Their ideology can’t stand up past the initial “for the children” rhetoric. So that’s why they tear down anybody from the right and keep stomping well past the point of expiration. It’s to damage the Republican brand.

Because they’re hyper-partisans. Even the “straight news” people like Chuck.

  3. Liberals will always mock conservatives as stupid because liberals believe themselves to be superior. This is evidenced by their belief that people are too stupid to take care of themselves without massive government intrusion. Particularly minorities. I’ve never come across a liberal who could fathom a black person working hard and succeeding on their own without the generosity of white liberals or liberal policies.

  4. ^^ LS: That about covers what conservatives think liberals think about conservatives and minorities.

Conservatives have their own generalities about what liberals think conservatives think about liberals and minorities. I’ve never come across a conservative who didn’t think liberals were all against free enterprise and minorities were all thieves, drug addicts and welfare bums.

    Both generalities are wrong.

  5. ^^ LS: That about covers what conservatives think liberals think about conservatives and minorities.

I’ve never met a conservative who didn’t think all liberals hated “success” and loved communism and abortion. Partisans on both sides believe the absolute very worst about everyone on the other side.

The difference between me and my conservative friends — I think conservatives have bad ideas, they think liberals are bad people.

  6. “The difference between me and my conservative friends — I think conservatives have bad ideas, they think liberals are bad people.”

    Bahahaahahahaahahahahaahhaahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Is there a single conservative who hasn’t been called a racist over the last 5 years? Or, in the case of black conservatives, a sellout, or an Uncle Tom? By your statement, that must mean that liberals don’t think racists are bad people. Good to know!

  7. “I’ve never come across a conservative who didn’t think…minorities were all thieves, drug addicts and welfare bums.”

That’s what got MSNBC in trouble. And, you should go on Twitter & check out the pictures of the conservative bi-racial families that have been posted in response to MSNBC. My nephew/God son is bi-racial; but, you’re right, I think he’s going to be a thief, drug addict or wellfare bum.

  8. KIDS, this is what the liberal TV network does:
    http://dailycaller.com/2014/01/31/msnbcs-top-offensive-moments/

See how respectful they are to conservatives and only point out bad ideas?

Or does a head in the sand sound good right now?

  9. The tweet that sparked this firestorm wasn’t even offensive.

The Daily Caller calling out MSNBC’s “top offensive moments” – glass houses.

  10. Stones hit accurately regardless of the tosser.

(I’ve returning from Florida trip showing racing fans I’m in their corner)

NASCAR volunteer honored with service award at Daytona dinner
Daytona Beach News-Journal – DAYTONA BEACH — In the eyes of former Daytona Beach Mayor Larry Kelly, the outstanding community service award given out Thursday night.

  11. Andy, the tweet was from someone representing MSNBC, a major cable channel and business. It wasn’t just some person talking off the top of his or her head.

All of MSNBC was behind that twitter – since it was the official MSNBC account – whether the person knew it or not.

  12. Stones hit accurately regardless of the tosser.

The “tosser” in this case is a website that, like Fox News, took up defending Phil Robertson like it was some cause – claiming that his rights were infringed upon and that Americans are too easily offended and we need to quit being so PC. Yet when liberals aren’t PC, conservatives rage and fume about it. #glasshouses

  13. So what? Great job summarizing the astounding mess of apology that was and is MSNBC.

That’s the issue of the day.

  14. savefarris Says:

So losing your job because you quoted scripture is the same as recklessly branding your political opponents as racists.

    Got it.

  15. savefarris Says:

And did NBC learn their lesson?

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2014/01/31/NBC-in-miami-calls-gop-reprehensible

    Not even 24 hours later.

  16. Rule #145 in debating: If your best argument is to point elsewhere then you know you’re in trouble.

  17. And did NBC learn their lesson?

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2014/01/31/NBC-in-miami-calls-gop-reprehensible

    Not even 24 hours later.

Trying to blame NBC News for something an affiliate did isn’t even grasping, it’s just straight up untruthful and desperate.

  18. ICE, if proven true, we got dead meat.

Over three hundred pounds of it.

  19. ^Maybe. He says “evidence exists” that Christie knew about the lane closings. But did he know why they were closed? That’s the smoking gun, the Big Enchilada, the Holy Grail…

Christie said he knew nothing about the closings so if there’s evidence he did know he’s in trouble. But if the evidence only shows he knew but didn’t know why, he may survive.

Again maybe. He’s in the worst spot in American politics when you get in trouble: the center. Both the right and left will stomp on you and you have no core supporters to rally around.

  20. ICE, if proven true, we got dead meat.

Over three hundred pounds of it.

    Always offensive, all the time.

  21. Hmm, the NY Times changed that story from the Port Authority exec saying he has evidence that Christie knew about the lane closings “at that time” to “evidence exists” that Christie knew.

    Evidence exists?

  22. Jeez, enough with the “offensive”. That’s less than what I’ve seen over & over again from MSM outlets, late night comics, etc.

  23. Apparently:

    “over 300 lbs” is offensive.

But, “hey all you right-wingers, many of whom are in inter-racial relationships, you all hate little half black babies because half-black” = not offensive.

    Good times.

  24. Yeah, I have a little more trouble with “300 pounds of dead meat”. And “drowned puppies” and “shoot the dog” and “death to America”. I’m sick of the disgusting images presented as commentary around here. Reading ICN is like watching a horror movie these days. I hope something is done about it eventually.

  25. You can’t be serious. You don’t like Larry. I got it. Fine. But, you can’t be that upset about relatively nothingburger posts.
Am I gonna have to send you some hello kitty underpants for Christmas? Come on. You a grown a$$ man!

  26. Good grief, making a comment about Christie’s weight is offensive? Since when?

    This is play acting now……

  27. You’re both purposely ignoring what I’m saying. I object to the vile death images. They’re becoming commonplace here, and they’re disturbing. Stop defending it.

  28. He’s playing to get Spud to drop the hammer on me. Give Spud some credit, he knows bad Larry when he sees him.

  29. If you think that reference is offensive than I strongly suggest you not visit any other site where people post messages.

Because what Larry said is playground talk compared to what’s out there.

Saying a politician is “dead meat” if a scandal is proven is hardly over the top language.

I won’t defend some of his other stuff; in fact I’ve called him out on it. But this? C’mon….

  30. I couldn’t care less what you or Spud do as long as it’s readable. The vile crap that’s been posted here the last couple days is not readable. The reality is Spud works a lot and doesn’t see much of it, and you, Larry Kelly, are taking advantage of this.

  31. He’s playing to get Spud to drop the hammer on me. Give Spud some credit, he knows bad Larry when he sees him.

“Give Spud some credit” … like you do on J$’s site when he or anyone else on here says something you don’t agree with?

  32. dead meat’ is offensive? How many times have people used that phrase On The Air On MSNBC?!? Here’s 1:
    http://www.nbcnews.com/id/31506736/ns/msnbc_tv-hardball_with_chris_matthews/#.Uuwqh3-9KSN

CHRIS MATTHEWS: “He‘s dead meat. You‘re wrong. He‘s dead meat. He‘s definitely dead meat”.
MATTHEWS (2012): If he loses there he may be dead meat. Dozens more.

Has Andy or Joe ever complained bout those? (Or anybody, anywhere, since meat was first eaten… dead)

  33. You boys need to pick your battles better. You’re looking a tad silly.

  34. I’m talking about your fat jokes which would be ignored if it wasn’t following a stream of offensive, mean-spirited remarks about drowning puppies, infidels, remarks about teenagers Zimmerman should kill and so on.

  35. Wildstein is under investigation in the Bridgegate matter.

So why release this information publicly? Wouldn’t you hold it as a card to play with the prosecutors? As in, “If you reduce the penalty I can give you evidence of other crimes.”

This will either be the end of Christie or nothing at all. I don’t see any middle ground.

  36. Keep in mind the guy is looking for a way out of a ride to jail. Regard what he says with great skepticism.

  37. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I have told Spud that I will ratchet it back. I suggest that mabye everybody on all sides do so, as well.

  38. NOTHING happens in New Jersey without Chris Christie’s knowledge.

  39. Larry, that’s one of my points. If he’s holding this card why play it publicly?

I do think his “evidence exists” language – or more accurately his lawyer’s – is pretty interesting. He’s not saying HE has the evidence; he is saying that there’s evidence elsewhere. It “exists”?

  40. Andy, maybe but you have to show it on paper and/or someone has to say he knew this.

Just saying “He must have known, that’s how he operates” isn’t enough.

  41. But EVERYTHING happens in the Obama Administration without Obama’s knowledge?

  42. Erich, I don’t see this bouncing at me from all media sources as if the smoking gun had been found.

  43. But EVERYTHING happens in the Obama Administration without Obama’s knowledge?

As I’ve said before, this stuff would work if you were talking to people who support Obama and defend him over these “scandals”. You’re not. So, try staying on topic for once.

  44. Andy, maybe but you have to show it on paper and/or someone has to say he knew this.

Just saying “He must have known, that’s how he operates” isn’t enough.

All I’m saying is, if you believe Christie didn’t know or order it, then Casey Anthony’s innocent. There’s no way he didn’t know. The man should just come clean. This wouldn’t be that big a deal to start with if he had come clean from the start.

  45. If you were the fired MSNBC staffer responsible for the Cheerios tweet, imagine him working on his/her resume now:

Imaginative self starter: got the president of a liberal network to apologize to the Chairman of the Republican Party with one tweet.

  46. “So, try staying on topic for once.”

So what part of tone it down did you not understand?

  47. “Erich, I don’t see this bouncing at me from all media sources as if the smoking gun had been found.”

I agree. When I said “this” above I meant the entire controversy and not these recent claims.

Christie will either be brought down by this or he’ll be almost completely untouched.

  48. The point is taking at face face value that Christie knows everything his staff does while the President of the United States seems only able to find out what his does after a scandal breaks, and I’m not saying he did know, seems a most odd thing to assume.

  49. “Christie will either be brought down by this or he’ll be almost completely untouched.”

Agree with you100%. I’m not a Christie fan, so have no dog n the race. Just want him treated fairly.

  50. it is front and center on DRUDGE, “HE KNEW?”, but Matt D. would love to see the gov. go down.

  51. I take Wildstein’s lawyers claims with a grain of salt. after all he’s trying to negotiate a deal for his client.

More problematic is Bill Stepein taking the fifth in refusing to hand over documents to the committee. That’s hard news, not an idle claim

  52. So what part of tone it down did you not understand?

Oh, NOW you want civility? Comical. I’m going to go watch Casablanca. Y’all have fun.

  53. “I take Wildstein’s lawyers claims with a grain of salt. after all he’s trying to negotiate a deal for his client.”

keep in mind all he says is “evidence exists”, not that he has it, has seen it, or believes it. kind of a nothing-burger.

So what part of tone it down did you not understand?

Come on, Andy. Let’s all call a truce and stop the nonsense. I told Spud that I would, and there is no reason that those more lucid than me here can’t do the same.

  55. CBS EVENING NEWS begins tonight’s broadcast with Christie story. Ends it with anchor pointing out, “we must say that no evidence has been presented.”

  56. Well, here’s something to lighten things up: Did anyone see Kimberly Guilfoyle interview Joe Namath on The Five today? Get a room, guys!

  57. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

No evidence? No problem. We’ll lead with the story anyway.

  58. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Well, here’s something to lighten things up: Did anyone see Kimberly Guilfoyle interview Joe Namath on The Five today? Get a room, guys!

I missed it. But I remember him hitting on Suzy Kolber a few years back.

“Suzy, I don’t want to talk about the Jets or the Patriots, or anything to do with football. I just want to kiss you.”

Joe was drunk at the time.

  59. Come on, Andy. Let’s all call a truce and stop the nonsense. I told Spud that I would, and there is no reason that those more lucid than me here can’t do the same.

It’s hard to call a truce with anyone when that truce means having bombs thrown at me every single day and the same person complaining to Spud the second I throw one back.

Larry throws bombs left and right. It’s what he has always and will always do. Everyone knows this. Hell, Spud said it just the other day. In the process, I can think of at least five people who have been run off of this site because of the antics — people who had been on here for years. And I’ve known a couple posters on here for 10 years.

  60. CASABLANCA fun fact: the sound stage used was too small to fit a full Lockheed Electra 12A so they constructed a scaled version of it and used midgets in jump suits to move around the plane to make it look full size, that with added scene effects covered up the fact they were using a sound stage.

  61. “I missed it. But I remember him hitting on Suzy Kolber a few years back.” – Nixon

I guess some things never change. Broadway Joe has been appearing quite often on FOX this past year. I’ve seen him twice on Hannity, at least once on O’Reilly, and today on The Five. He’s still adorable.

  62. He has admitted to some brain injury issues from football concussions over the years.

  63. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Well, I tried. I rarely complain to Spud, even though HE requested that I let him handle these things. Even after I voluntarily left, then came back, and you greeted me with racial taunting about indians, I didn’t complain, but let it drop.

I intend to start with a clean slate. Whatever you do is up to you.

  64. ProTip: Telling someone they said something racial – and you’re on very thin ice with that card – is not generally considered “starting with a clean slate”. But points for effort.

  65. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

He has admitted to some brain injury issues from football concussions over the years.

Namath has had at least five major concussions. For a 70 year old with that history, he is doing fairly well. Brain problems aren’t fun. Not for the sufferers. Not for those around them.

  66. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

ProTip: Telling someone they said something racial – and you’re on very thin ice with that card – is not generally considered “starting with a clean slate”. But points for effort.

Joe, it was the truth. But I just let it slide. I only mentioned it now because of him playing innocent. There are a lot of guilty parties in this mess. I will take the blame for being the worst. I have said that I will stop, and will do my damnedest to control myself. I get too carried away over somethings that aren’t worth it.

  67. I wish you luck with this endeavor to stay cool, and heartily advise that you recognize when that other fellow starts juicing you up to be his sidekick in madness. The key phrase is “Right, Nixon?”

  68. Maddow hinted tonight that Steve Kornacki will have yet another big breaking story on the Christie saga tomorrow. She didn’t say if it would be a brand new scandal; on top of Bridgegate, the Hoboken Affair and the new SPCA probe that broke the other day; or more revelations on one of those three existing investigations. Either way the noose is tightening on Chris Christie’ political future.

  69. “More problematic is Bill Stepein taking the fifth in refusing to hand over documents to the committee. That’s hard news, not an idle claim”

That is something a person with a good, smart lawyer will tell you to do while you have no idea if there will be state and/or federal charges brought against you. Don’t open your mouth no matter how hard it is to keep it shut. Let people like fritz say keeping your mouth shut is problematic. Who gives a crap what normal people like us think – all that matters is the people wanting to put you in jail.

My goodness, Lois Lerner, of IRS fame took the 5th and we are STILL wondering what the hell she could say about who directed her to do what she did. I want her to talk and tell me everything but I do understand why the heck she is keeping her mouth shut.

Same goes for Bill Stepein. Don’t like it but understand it.

  70. “Same goes for Bill Stepein. Don’t like it but understand it.”

^^I don’t disagree. My point was just that taking the fifth says you may have something to hide or like Wildstein your looking to make a deal. Either way it’s problematic for Christie.

  71. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

I wish you luck with this endeavor to stay cool, and heartily advise that you recognize when that other fellow starts juicing you up to be his sidekick in madness. The key phrase is “Right, Nixon?”

Joe, when it looks like I am going to lose it, I will close the browser window and do something else until I cool off. My impulse control isn’t what it used to be, but if I can do it in real life, there is no reason that I can’t be civil here.

  72. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Pam, I wish they’d given her use immunity. However, had she lied after that, she’d have opened herself up to perjury charges.

  73. @MarkHalperin: Mr. Wildstein’s lawyer confirms what the Governor has said all along – he had absolutely no prior knowledge of the lane closures”

  74. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Didn’t Bill Maher used to be a comic or something?

  75. well, the audience laughed.

  76. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    Figures.

  77. Even after I voluntarily left, then came back, and you greeted me with racial taunting about indians, I didn’t complain, but let it drop.

Racial taunting? Oh, good #!*%ing grief.

  78. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

    good #!*%ing grief.

And, I let it go, Andy. What is in the past is in the past. I promise everyone here that I will not be the one to break the peace.

  79. Anyone know why Fox News and the right wing blogs seem to be giving NJ Senator Bob Menendez a pass on his legal troubles? I’m sure they’ve mentioned the story but it’s not wall to wall like the Christie story is on MSNBC.

The fact I don’t see any major coverage on his legal woes from FNC and the right wing blogs is puzzling to me as he is a real scumbag Democratic Senator with a sleazy past who’s really in big legal trouble.

Yet Fox News, and the rightwing blogs, seem obsessed with Democrats like Wendy Davis; who are no real treat to Republicans, as yet, and are pretty much scandal free. In fact the only serious coverage I’ve seen of Menendez’s legal troubles was on Rachel Maddow’s show last week. Go figure.

  80. savefarris Says:

To be fair, a scandal-ridden Jersey Democrat isn’t exactly “news”…

  81. “To be fair, a scandal-ridden Jersey Democrat isn’t exactly “news”…

^^Nor is a scandal-ridden Jersey Republican but that’s not my question.

  82. “In fact the only serious coverage I’ve seen of Menendez’s legal troubles was on Rachel Maddow’s show last week. Go figure.”

Menendez has posed a serious challenge to Obama on sanctions on Iran. He just got a hint of things to come. Easy to figure.

  83. The Daily Caller thought they had a big get on Mendez in the call girl scandal that turned out to be a non scandal. FNC and other channels ran with it till the hidden camera video was discredited.
Maybe this time they are going to wait till there is actually something to cover in the latest Mendez investigation.

Meanwhile Greta is over covering Wendy Davis the same you could argue MSNBC is over covering the Christie Scandal.

  88. Nixon - niila niihpikiiookwa meentwasiaani Says:

Wendy Davis appeared in front of a Congressional Committee and told her fictional life story under oath. She ought to at least have the decency to withdraw from the race. Surely the Democrats in Texas can come with an alternative.

Comparison to Liz Cheney ought to do the trick.

  90. They’re both real stories but FOX “News” Channel has doubled down and gone all in on the Wendy Davis “scandal” while questioning why the Chris Christie scandals get any coverage because BENGHAZI.

  91. savefarris Says:

FNC is stupid to harp on the Wendy Davis “scandal” as much as they are. She probably is not and was never going to win

Neither did Christine O’Donnell. But if you can turn the overmatched candidate into the face of the party, you can do some real damage in some other races.

Wendy Davis is Mary Landreiu’s worst nightmare.

My husband went to Cuba on a medical mission trip and up close and personal he came home saying their system is a MESS. Spud was on the FOOD NETWORK.

  102. No mention by Howie Kurtz again today of his having dropped the promised Gabe Sherman segment last week. I take that as the discussion will be postponed until the twelfth of never.
