Post your nominations for this week’s What’s Hot/What’s Not. I’ll post the finalists on Sunday night…

  1. HOT: Smerconish’s debut on CNN
HOT: Piers Morgan on a three weeks time table
HOT: Jake Tapper being tested in primetime

    NOT: Chicagoland

  2. Hot: NewsMax’s Chris Ruddy has ambitions for a cable news channel, a “kinder gentler FOX”. I’ll give it a “hot” until it’s not.

Hot: Cable news anchors on the ground in Crimea. Shep and Coop aren’t dodging bullets yet. Let’s hope it stays that way!

Not: Zucker puts up a dart board to see if anything sticks on CNN. Lemon needs a longer shelf life. I’d team Tapper and Weir just to see what mixing two ABC guys would do, but that won’t happen.

Not: CNN court show. Mark Geragos a lousy lawyer and he will host a lousy show. Tot moms can sleep soundly.

Not: Al Jazeera America announced special Ukraine coverage that nobody watched. A demo of 5,000 viewers? Dogs stepping on the remote could generate that.

  3. Hot: Super-sub Ari Melber. Over the last few months Melber has been all over MSNBC subbing for hosts on leave, on assignment or off for the day as well as his regular dayside gig as cohost on ‘The Cycle’.

This is the same path that Joy Reid followed to get her program (The Reid Report) and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Melber follow in her footsteps. His growth as a host over the last year has been pretty substantial
