***MEMORIAL DAY TUNE IN PROGRAMMING NOTE***
Al Jazeera America To Run Back-to-Back Episodes of Critically Acclaimed BORDERLAND – Monday, May 26th from 11am- 4pm ET
The four-episode series is an immersive documentary in which six average Americans retrace the footsteps of migrants who died crossing the U.S.-Mexico border
“Borderland,” Al Jazeera America’s first original documentary series exploring immigration and border control, will be run in a marathon programming format on Monday, May 26, 2014.
As part of the “Al Jazeera America Presents” series, the program follows six ordinary Americans confronting the realities of illegal immigration. In this breakthrough television event, each were tasked by the Pima County, Arizona medical examiner with retracing the footsteps of three deceased migrants – three of the 5,500 individuals who perished in the desert in the last 15 years while trying to cross from Mexico. Gathered at the morgue, the participants are told: “We’ve given them a name. You must give them a story.”
The four one-hour episodes from Al Jazeera America reflect the channel’s commitment to outstanding investigative journalism focusing on the human side of important, underreported stories, arising out of such national issues as immigration, the criminal justice system and youth culture. The episodes originally aired on Al Jazeera America in April 2014.
