MSNBC TOPS CNN IN KEY DAYPARTS – JULY 2014 RATINGS

“Hardball,” “All In,” “The Rachel Maddow Show,” and “The Last Word” Up Compared to Last Year

NEW YORK – July 30, 2014 – MSNBC topped CNN in key dayparts for the month of July, according to data from Nielsen. In addition, “Hardball,” “All In,” “The Rachel Maddow Show,” and “The Last Word” are up in total viewers compared to July 2013.

MSNBC ranked #2 in weekday primetime (M-F 8p-11p) among total viewers for the month (639,000 vs. CNN’s 508,000).

In M-Su primetime, MSNBC ranked #2 in total viewers (550,000 vs. CNN’s 514,000).

MSNBC ranked #2 in sales prime (M-Su 7p-2a) among total viewers (452,000). MSNBC was #1 among A18-34 in sales prime (M-Su 7p-2a) and weekend sales prime (S-Su 7p-2a). MSNBC ranked #1 in sales prime among African American total viewers for the 53rdconsecutive month.

MSNBC continued to attract the most diverse audience in cable news.” In weekday primetime (M-F 8p-11p) and M-Su sales day (M-Su 6a-2a), MSNBC ranked #1 in African-American audiences A25-54 and P2+ for the month.

Below are additional MSNBC program and daypart highlights for May 2014:

“Morning Joe” (6-9 a.m.) topped CNN’s “New Day” in total viewers (312,000 vs. CNN’s 302,000).
“PoliticsNation” with Rev. Al Sharpton at 6 p.m. was #2 in total viewers (515,000 vs. CNN 456,000).
“Hardball” with Chris Matthews at 7 p.m. ranked #2 with 688,000 in total viewers for the month. “Hardball” was up double-digits from last year– up 19% among total viewers compared to July 2013.
At 8 p.m., “All In” with Chris Hayes topped CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” among total viewers (631,000 vs. CNN’s 555,000). “All In” was up 6% in total viewers compared to July 2013.
“The Rachel Maddow Show” at 9 p.m. ranked #2 with 175,000 A25-54 and 795,000 total viewers for the month. “Maddow” is up 2% among total viewers compared to July 2013.
At 10 p.m., “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” (M-Th) was #2 with 638,000 total viewers, up 4% compared to July 2013.
MSNBC ranked #1 in weekend sales prime (Sa/Su 7p-2a) among A25-54 for the 15th consecutive month.
