Carol Costello Apologizes for Palin Commentary…

Politico’s Dylan Byers writes about an apology Carol Costello made/was forced to make (pick one) about commentary she made about the Bristol Palin police report audio…

CNN’s Carol Costello apologized on Thursday for joking about a police recording of Bristol Palin.

“Over the past few days I have been roundly criticized for joking about a brawl involving the Palin family. In retrospect, I deserve such criticism and would like to apologize,” Costello said in a statement to POLITICO.

On Wednesday, before playing a tape in which Bristol Palin describes an alleged altercation at a party in Wasilla, Alaska, Costello said, “This is quite possibly the best minute and a half of audio we’ve ever come across. Well, come across in a long time anyway.”

In the tape, Palin is heard describing what happened to her after she confronted someone she accused of pushing her sister.

“So we were in a limo. I walk back up. “Did you push my sister?” And some guy gets up, pushes me down on the grass, drags me across the grass. “You slut, you f—ing c—, you f—ing this.” I get back up, he pushes me down on the grass again,” Palin said, according to the recording. “And he pulls me by my f—ing feet. And he’s the one that’s leaving and I have my 5-year-old, they took my $300 sunglasses, they took my f—ing shoes, and I’m f—ing just left here?”

After the tape, Costello said “the long bleep was my favorite part.”

“We should point out that no charges were filed in this incident and in a Sept. 19th Facebook post, Sarah Palin defended her daughter, writing part — writing in part, quote, ‘I love my Bristol. I have to say, this is a proud mama. My kids’ defense of my family makes my heart soar.’ You can thank me later,” Costello said.

  1. O’Reilly is on it. This isn’t good. For her.

  2. I don’t know, I’m really trying to stay away from the “fire them” bandwagon for people who screw up, but this is pretty bad. Even an openly liberal opinion host would have a tough time justifying laughing about a young woman being assaulted…we’re kinda not for that crap, ya know? But Carol is a news anchor. This really is unacceptable.

  3. It was ok because it was a Palin and Costello never feared any backlash. Getting skewered by conservatives never bothered her before. The only reason this matters now is because there is an election just around the corner and all liberals are afraid the “War on Women” may backfire against them. The Denver Post said as much in their endorsing of Cory Gardner.

Carol Costello told her own story of abuse and her hypocrisy was on full view. No sympathy for her whatsoever.

  4. You’ll appreciate this roundup of liberal glee. Costello may be the worst of it, but she’s far from alone. In fact, one might assume that the general, liberal reaction is what made her think that it was acceptable to act this way.

  5. It is what it is. It’s expected. There’s no reason for Costello to lose her job over this as she’d just be replaced by someone like minded. I’ve long been a critic of hers. She’s simply awful. CNN is MSNBC lite. The only remotely fair and balanced anchors they have are Tapper and Burnett. Tapper is especially good; his Ferguson coverage the only real exception. But, he got caught up in the moment which is somewhat understandable.

  6. “I deserve such criticism and would like to apologize,”

I doubt there can be much more of a matter-of-fact admission of doing something wrong than that, and I think this is one of those times when the manner of repentance should be judged rather than the actual sin. It may be that the general, liberal reaction fostered this line of thinking, but Ms. Costello should not have to bear that weight on her shoulders; She should not lose her job over this.

Yes, we must go slow whenever thinking about making light of young women being assaulted. But we now know this was a mild scuffle with no one left seriously injured… and then that police recording with the fowl language becomes sorta kinda funny. I wouldn’t be surprised if Miss Palin and the little sister she rightly stuck up for are laughing about it soon, too.

  7. Amy thoughts on whether Stelter will address it? My guess is that he has to in some form. Though if he does he’ll go the mediaite route and note that “conservative” blogs were outraged. And, something about Fox News cuz he’s Brian Stelter former FNC critic for TV Newser and NYT.

  8. I can’t imagine them firing her, just because some conservatives are bent. If she’s already on the bubble, that’s a whole other story. As with life in general, they have plenty of younger others to take her place.

  9. Bitch needs fired….she calls it “joking”, I call it bashing. She laughs about it, says best audio in a while. CNN is a joke, and their “representatives” prove that.

  10. Carol Costello’s recent “Foot in Mouth” comments regarding her lack of ethical journalistic judgment regarding the Palin family is just another example of why CNN is failing (miserably) in the cable news network rankings. she should have the good sense and temerity to resign OR CNN should terminate her employment as the 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM anchor……a show that I will no longer watch while she is allowed to remain in that position.

  11. WaPo Media Reporter: CNN’s Costello Should Apologize to Palins On-Air

  12. If the offense happened on-air, so should the apology. Otherwise, it’s not a real apology.

  13. Wash. Post just called for Costello to apologize to her ON AIR…, what Bezos has wrought…..heh

Washington Post Calls for CNN’s Carol Costello to Apologize to Palin Family On-Air

  14. icemannyr Says:

Costello has not even bothered to remove the tweet she posted that used the same words she said on CNN.

  15. Eh, the problem with that is that if you remove the tweet, a million people just tweet the screen-grab of the original. You can’t win.

  16. ^ True, and keeping the original tweet keeps the many negative responses on the screen.

  17. I cannot stand the fact that people feel the need to apologize to Sarah Palin! For God’s sake, people. Palin is the most hated women in the world. Europeans can’t stand the woman. She is Pres. O’s most famous “Presidential stalker.” How does Palin get away with her hatred towards the president, yet she never apologizes! The hatred that spews from her big mouth is so obnoxious yet she seems to get a free ride.
The Wasilla Hillbilly continues to play the sympathy card and it stinks to high heavens.
    Thank you.

  18. Something is wrong with this picture. Palin needs an apology? For what? Palin the monster is the most hated person on this planet!
Since Palin so gleefully was able to get Martin Bashir fired from MSNBC she thinks she owns the airwaves now. Typical Palin monster. She “cries” every time SHE gets hated on. Pallin needs more and more of this — her own medicine is good for her. Monster Palin has many apologies to make herself . She should come forth and apologize to ALL the people she has hated on.

  19. Good for Carol Costello! Yeah Carol.

More and more people need to come forth and call out the Palins’ for what they really stand for.

P.S. Dear Carol…I am sorry you had to apologize for what was right in the first place. Keep the faith.

  20. Some new crazy on here. Neat.

  21. Apparently, Stelter addressed it. I didn’t see it. Quit watching after the Carney segment. Not sure what the point of that segment was other than to take the obligatory shot at FNC. Pretty sure Srelter’s hiccup’s sound like “fox”.

  22. Well, lets see here…Costello goes on air a bit back, crying about an x boyfriend shoving her around, expecting sympathy……then she laughs and spouts her snarky bs while another woman gets shoved around….but its ok since one is conservative. Standard leftist drivel. Usual liberal fascist trope.

  23. Actually, Bonnie, this is about Bristol Palin. It has nothing to do with her mom, so multiple posts about how nobody owes Sarah an apology is pointless ranting. Or so says this liberal fascist.
