Camerota In, Bolduan Out?

FTVLive is reporting that Alisyn Camerota will replace Kate Bolduan on New Day. Christmas week news dump?

Now, FTVLive reports FIRST and EXCLUSIVELY that Camerota will be replacing Kate Bolduan early in the new year. Camerota has been filing in on New Day since Bolduan left on maternity leave and she is not getting the job full time.

As FTVLive reported, Zucker wanted Robin Meade to move over from HLN and take the New Day job, but Meade refused to leave Atlanta and dug in her heels. Zucker has now decided to go with Camerota to sit alongside Cuomo.

(snip)

As for Bolduan? Sources tell FTVLive that it is likely that she will be given her own show later in the day, but the show and the time slot are still being decided.

And who will be losing out in order to make room for Bolduan? That should prove interesting…

  1. I think Alisyn has done a good job at CNN. Wasn’t a big fan of hers at FNC but like her on CNN.

  2. And who will be losing out in order to make room for Bolduan? That should prove interesting…

^^In descending order my guesses are: Blitzer, Costello; Banfield. Wolf has another show to go to; Costello has made a number of embarrassing gaffes recently and Banfield just irritates me.

  3. The New Day co-host change described in the FTVLive article probably comes as no surprise to most of us.

However, the statement that “Bolduan likely will be given her own show later in the day” seems highly speculative to me.

Does anyone really think she has the skill set or personality to carry her own show? She seems too much like an Ann Curry type. An intelligent serious reporter, but not solo host material. But that’s just me.

  4. “Does anyone really think she has the skill set or personality to carry her own show?”

^^I do. She’s smart, personable, pretty and can read the teleprompter. What else do you need?

I expect we’ll soon be hearing the same things said about Camerota that we are now hearing about Bolduan. Cuomo obviously has a problem working with women. Burnett and Meade refuse to work with him (I’m not buying the excuses) and Bolduan got replaced. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

  5. The only daytime hours I feel are safe would be Brooke Baldwin’s as well as Jake Tapper’s hour. I also feel that Ashleigh Banfield’s hour is safe, too, although not as locked in as the previous two. If I were a betting man I would actually guess that one of Carol’s hours.

  6. I posted before I proofread. That last sentence should read “If I were a betting man I would actually guess that one of Carol’s hours is given to Bolduan.

  7. Does anyone really think she has the skill set or personality to carry her own show?

That’s a decent question that we don’t know the answer to yet but a better question is how long is her contract? If it’s got years left on it, there are several possibilities:

    1) CNN holds on to her and she gets kicked to dayside where nothing remarkable happens.
    2) She realizes she’s been demoted and she wants off CNN. Seems unlikely that she’d do better elsewhere though.
    3) CNN doesn’t want her around because it reminds people that Jeff Zucker’s big chemistry duo was actually a bust. So it buys out her contract and lets her go. This would not be atypical behavior for a Jeff Zucker run network.
    4) Hello CNNI

  8. If I were a betting man I would actually guess that one of Carol’s hours is given to Bolduan.

It would be the safe bet but I don’t know if it’s an automatic. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to add another anchor to dayside when CNN has too many anchors on dayside already. I’m not talking about the dedicated branded shows like Sit Room and Tapper’s show. I’m talking about CNN Newsroom and the morning shows.

  9. Do we know the breakdown of the ratings for each hour’s program? That might provide some additional insight.

  10. My guess is she gets a named show like Gretchen did after being dropkicked off Fox & Friends. And it will get about as much attention..

  11. cuomo is the problem if the program has one. cnn will never get viewers in the morning so it doesn’t matter who you put on the air. but bouldan might prefer later in the day with a new baby and all. but like i said, doesn;t matter who is on there will be NO ratings draw.

harry – I agree in regards to this being a push.

I think New Day can lock in 2nd place as long as they don’t get obsessed on one story as they often did this year (not just the plane).

I also agree that Cuomo should go but I also think that Bolduan got too big of a push too fast. She went from being a Congressional Correspondent (Brianna Keilar’s old gig) to co-anchor of the foundation of Zucker-era CNN. She doesn’t have the gravitas that Camerota has (or that Burnett would have brought).

If this story pans out, it will be interesting to see who gets State of the Union. I’m guessing Tapper, and if that happens will he give up his weekly show and will Bolduan take his place so Zucker doesn’t look like he made a total mistake by putting her on New Day?

  13. Why don’t the take out Michaela Pereira also? I think she is really the problem in New Day and in CNN during the weekdays. It seems that she is in CNN all day and that is not healthy. Also Michaela’s demeanour is not healthy for CNN. On the other hand, Cuomo is excellent and very professional. I would look for a completely new substitute for Bolduan, Camerota and Pereira.
