Hi There, Remember ME?

Page Six’s Claire Atkinson writes about Brian Williams…

This time, Brian Williams may not be exaggerating.

Talks between the exiled anchor and NBCUniversal have recently become tense — with the 55-year-old newsman saying he will not have his “NBC Nightly News” job taken away without a battle, The Post has learned.

“Brian is saying he’s not going down without a fight and [is] threatening to make it really ugly — worse than Ann Curry,” a source close to NBC told The Post.

Oooooooooh.

Ann Curry. Those are two words that would scare the hell out of NBC brass.

^^Sounds like a negotiating tactic to me – and a pretty good one at that. Don’t forget Williams has new five year ($50 million?) contract and he would want to salvage as much loot as possible out of that deal.

A bigger problem for NBC may be finding a permanent replacement for Williams. Holt is perfectly fine as a temporary sub but I think he just doesn’t have the viewer appeal to do the job permanently.

The more I think about it the rumors of Williams eventually doing a PT talk show in Larry King’s old time slot on CNN seem make some sense.

  2. Brian WANTS to get into the “entertainment” business. Let him. NBC should pay as much as it needs to to get out of the contract and MOVE ON.

Trevor Noah did have a rocky rollout… A fake news anchor would be perfect for a fake news show.

They should just go ahead and name Josh Earnest as anchor.

  5. The contract NBC gave Williams is par for the course compared to what company execs make, and when those guys leave they take every penny. NBC ought to strap him in his golden parachute and gently nudge him off the plane. Can CNN afford Williams, baggage and all? It seems like little more than a negotiating tactic to show he’s still wanted. Holt can read a prompter just fine and they also have other people like Andrea Mitchell who’s well connected. AJAM probably has a few people second guessing their stint there, though maybe not anyone who could fill the NBC anchor desk.

I get the feeling that if Williams makes it ugly like the Ann Curry departure, it’s only going to blow up on his face.

  6. If Williams truly wants back, NBC should let him come back. I imagine the people who tuned in before would tune in again. I don’t really care what they do because I don’t watch NBC. But, I do feel bad for Williams and the ongoing saga. Time for NBC to put an end to it one way or another. The longer it drags on, the bigger the problem for NBC.

  7. LS: he dug his own grave – he needs to live in it. He needs to be gone, gone, gone!

  8. Maybe so, Pam. I just wish they’d do/say something final instead of letting it linger. It seems like they’ve been buying time to find more examples with which to bury him. Which means that they don’t want him back. So, if they don’t, let him go. If they do, put him back on the air.

I don’t understand why making fun of Ann Curry is being made on this site.
She was VERY revelant to the show.
    Racism anyone!

  10. They’re not making fun of Ann Curry. They’re talking about NBC’s handling of her leaving NBC.

  11. bonnieux: I have read the comments people have made here with an Ann Curry mention. I see nowhere in any of them where “fun” is made of her in any way, shape or form.

Please specify where you think that is being done or stop using the “racism” word. It is a VERY weak argument.
