Don’t Give Trump The Satisfaction…

So it appears as of this writing that Trump is going to schedule an event during the timeframe that FNC is airing its now Trump-less GOP debate. And of course he’s openly courting other networks to carry it.

They shouldn’t…at least not live. Don’t give Trump the satisfaction of dividing and conquering the networks. I fully expect CNN to not adhere to this because of how it swooped in and grabbed NBC’s GOP debate. MSNBC will probably carry it too.

They shouldn’t for the simple reason that it could happen to them at some point down the road if they allow for this precedent to be set. They should boycott Trump’s speech. Or at the very least, they should air it tape delayed until after the FNC GOP debate is over.

Not that I’m expecting this to happen. I’m no fool. Ratings and the possibility of revenue enhancement will win out over network solidarity. But they’re just shooting themselves in the foot in the long run.

  1. So sick of having to hear about Trump. I haven’t bothered watching any US cable news in months since it’s Trump every hour for most of the segments every single f@cking day. Barely any Canadian cable news for the same reason. It’s been mostly BBC and Al Jazeera for me because they have the least on the Trump circus. CNNi simulcasts are so unbearable the last few months. It was nice to get a different view on the world since the simulcasts became permanent. One would hope for a US channel (especially one deemed to be the top of the class in the US) to take a break from the circus to show something else but nope. I’ve read some complaints from international viewers floating on the web that CNNi is pre-empting regular programming (during the non-simulcast hours) to show more Trump. That’s just appalling.
There’s a lot of crap still going on out there. Today AJE talked about the upcoming Syria talks and the BBC had one of their reporters get close to what is left of Benghazi. Anyone mention the UN has a report that shows the Saudis are deliberately targeting civilians in Yemen?

  2. They’ve come this far in the Trump train, why get off now?

  3. […] Don’t do it.  CNN suggests it won’t air Trump, then confirms it […]

  4. “They should boycott Trump’s speech. Or at the very least, they should air it tape delayed until after the FNC GOP debate is over.”

^^Good luck with that Spud. Why should CNN or MSNBC not be allowed to broadcast the debate live? FNC, not CNN or MSNBC, caused this mess and if the shoe were on the other foot they would be only to happy to broadcast the Trump event live. This is the definition of schadenfreude.

“But they’re just shooting themselves in the foot in the long run.”

^^Maybe, but i ‘ll bet that’s a chance CNN will take happily. MSNBC may not cover the Trump event live because it will conflict with TRMS, but not because they think “Don’t give Trump the satisfaction of dividing and conquering the networks.” or “that it could happen to them at some point down the road if they allow for this precedent to be set.”

  5. It was reported a few hours ago that Trump moved his event to 7pm CT which is an hour before the FNC debate at 8pm CT.

One America News which very few people get has announced it is showing Trump’s event.
That should be no surprise as OAN has been trying to get viewers by showing every event that Trump does live.

What is surprising to me is they are apparently spending money to broadcast the event as opposed to just using an internet or pool feed,

.@OANN says it’s “positioned a satellite transmission truck” at Trump’s event “for multiple camera, broadcast quality live coverage.”

  6. The way CNN and MSNBC did split-screens of the Trump plane landing in Iowa you’d think it was Air Force One. Trump knows how to keep the media hooked like a heroin addict.
