All Cards On The Table…

Well you can’t get much more pivotal than this…

Either Gabriel Sherman’s New York Magazine story that the Murdoch clan plan to oust Ailes over the private investigation stemming from Gretchen Carlson’s lawsuit will cement him now and forever as the most dangerous media writer in the country…

…or…

…Sherman is going to wind up with so much egg on his face if it doesn’t pan out his rep will be now and forever permanently tarnished.

Roger Ailes’s tenure as the head of Fox News may be coming to an end. Rupert Murdoch and sons Lachlan and James — co-chairmen and CEO, respectively, of parent company 21st Century Fox — have settled on removing the 76-year-old executive, say two sources briefed on a sexual-harassment investigation of Ailes being conducted by New York law firm Paul, Weiss. After reviewing the initial findings of the probe, James Murdoch is said to be arguing that Ailes should be presented with a choice this week to resign or face being fired. Lachlan is more aligned with their father, who thinks that no action should be taken until after the GOP convention this week. Another source confirms that all three are in agreement that Ailes needs to go.

Then again…now that this story has come out…we should probably be seeing Rupert Murdoch publicly back Ailes with some sort of statement. After all, that’s the way this stuff seems to go down in 20th Century-land; story comes out saying Ailes’ situation is precarious…Ailes works Murdoch…Murdoch publicly backs Ailes and/or gives him a new deal.

Never underestimate Roger Ailes nor his relationship with a Murdoch patriarch who is so loyal to his staff…

  1. As I’ve said who knows the truth with this story on the harassment.

However……with GS track record…nearly 100% wrong…..when Aug comes if Ailes STILL has his job……will people stop repeating this guy’s stuff like it might be true?

IMHO I’d like to see fresh blood in there…..but let’s be honest Alies built the network and there having their best year EVER…….you don’t fire a winner unless you have to.

“…so much egg on his face…”

Sherman could walk around looking like IHOP, and those who want to believe him, will continue to do so.

  3. You have to wonder how GS ends up with such bad info all the time.

I can’t imagine the Murdochs dumping Ailes until after the election, and FNC will be in good hands with one of the network’s SVPs. I think they could improve it if they keep the network’s right-of-center “alternative media” identity while reigning in some of the dumb stuff.

I read the story as the Murdoch sons don’t want to have to deal with Ailes and are hoping he announces his retirement so they don’t have to dump him (and risk alienating the FNC talent.)

  5. nearly 100% wrong

I would revise that to not 100% right. He’s been more right than wrong but he’s gotten too far out in front of the story sometimes and it has bit him.

  6. Well Spud….I’ve got to ask….what major story about Fox News did he get right?

Everything I’ve ever seen has turned out not to happen or was something anybody could have guess about.

NOW I say up front….I don’t read him so Maybe I just see the mistakes pointed out on media blogs……..what he been more right than wrong about?

  7. http://www.mediaite.com/online/gabe-shermans-fox-fiction-now-bordering-on-unhinged-as-invisible-friends-continue-to-fail/

Take a look at the fails listed at the end….hows that Biden campaign going?

Its been a year and still waiting for that Alies demoted.

Murdoch had it right…..He’s got an agenda.

If he right…IMHO it could be good for Fox News to get some new blood in there……however with his track record……..I find it hard to believe Fox News will fire the guy who is leading them to their best year EVER.

Aug 1 is coming up fast so we won’t have to wait long one way or another.

IMHO ALL 3 could use some new blood in their.

  8. Much as I like Joe in my opinion based upon what I’ve observed he’s not an honest broker here with Sherman. I have not been able to figure out why he can’t stand him but the level of snark and vitriol he displays when writing about him goes beyond someone merely doing a fact check. If all I had to go on were his Sherman columns, yeah, I would think Sherman was never right about anything too.

And I’m not saying Sherman is perfect. He was a lot more accurate prior to his Ailes book. He turned in first rate well sourced accurate deep dive article after first rat well sourced accurate deep dive article…articles nobody pushed back on. Then he started writing about Ailes and now he’s Jason Blair. I do think he’s taken all the criticism leveled at him personally and it has become a bit of a vandetta to “nail Ailes to the wall”. But my feeling regarding Sherman is still a far cry from the anti-christ portrait Joe paints. Some of the examples Joe cites can be explained with realistic alternative scenarios than the one he uses. Not in all cases…but enough to make Sherman look not as bad as Joe makes him out to be.

(cue Joe saying how I’ve misconstrued him in 3-2-1…)

  9. Well I agree Spud….my point was that GS makes a lot of stuff with anonymous sources and when it doesn’t happen people don’t want to call him on it.

IMHO as Ive said ALL the news networks could use new blood………My big problem is……..GS said last year RA was getting demoted…..he wasn’t he was given a new contract………now he says hes to be fired when Fox is having his best year EVER……..everyone repeats that like its gospel or something….that’s wrong.

I kinda hope hes right….new blood should be brought in every so often.

If he’s right this time people will forget that he was WRONG last year about the very same thing.

  10. […] in front of the story Concha not only said that this story would make or break Sherman, something I also wrote, he had to go back and blast him again over issues which some aren’t the slam dunk he makes […]
