Keith Olbermann is Hurting America?

Former Medtronic CEO Bill George seems to think so…(via The Business Insider)

Update: George has apparently yanked his article from his blog. But it’s still up on The Business Insider

Update 2: ICN received a statement from George from a media relations person regarding the posting on his site…

Yesterday a member of my social media team published a piece on my blog regarding the lack of balanced, rationale dialogue in the media. The publication of this piece (“Olbermann Overkill Is Hurting America”) was inadvertent, because I had not yet made my final edits on it. I passionately believe that the nation must engage in a more balanced, rational discussion about our economic and political problems, however, I did not approve of the writing’s particular criticism of certain commentators. Regrettably, the piece singled out several individuals, in particular Keith Olbermann. The view expressed regarding these individuals are not mine.

Update 3: This is the post George says he had intended to publish…

I voted for Barack Obama. I never watch FOX News. I am not a raging conservative.

And I think Keith Olbermann is hurting America.

An uncompromising megaphone of partisan rancor, Olbermann perpetuates the single-mindedness and inflexible partisanship that now roil the country, both on and off Capitol Hill. His rants against former President Bush, former Republican politicians, and shock-media rival Rush Limbaugh contribute little to constructive debate about how we can fix today’s true problems. And his soapbox forays in such segments as the “Worst Person in the World” – a daily lambast of often unsavory, but many just politically conservative characters – have made Mr. Olbermann the news day’s political alienator and ire-monger of choice for the partisan left.

Keith Olbermann would not necessarily concern me if he were a TV aberration, an exception to the broadcast-news rule. But his ilk have become the standard, as similarly irrational and incendiary political foils like Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly merely bounce back the ill will.

    I can’t disagree.

That said, I don’t MIND that there are partisan opinion outlets. It’s just a joke to pretend they’re ‘news’.

What are the odds that Bill George makes it to the WPITW list tonight?

heh. Everyone should be able to have a ‘people I’m p!ssed at today’ list and make people listen to it.

  4. A double-header. Worst person/pinhead or patriot, since he chose to conflate Olbermann and O’Reilly.

  5. Countdown’s morph from a wry and well written news and analysis program to Keith Olbermann’s hour of petulant pontification was a reaction to the success of Bill O’Reilly and Shaun Hannity on FOX. It was a bid for ratings and an identity for MSNBC – if FOX can generate a loyal viewing audience and mindshare by swinging to the right, can MSNBC become the same thing for the left? It was the second time they tried it, the first was with Phil Donahue, and this time it worked.

Olbermann has adopted the persona of the people he once so brilliantly mocked: the self righteous, self important, self aggrandizing gasbag.

The one reason I like watching Football Night in America these days is because of the football highlights provided by Olbermann and Patrick. It’s a throwback to the days when SportsCenter was good just like Countdown was a throwback to when SportsCenter was good but with news instead of ball scores.

  6. I think Olbermann is great for republicans and conservatives. He is trying to imitate Hannity.Orielly and Beck, but he takes it to far with his personal attacks, mocking republicans and conseratives by name and slurping voices he uses to mock them is not qute. I use to watch his show, but I got where he made me sick with that phony act he does. Fox people don’t use peoples names that they attack, they usually just say ,the net work ,like nbc, msnbc, cnn and some liberal news papers. However since the W H attacked fox they are starting to call people out by name. Its about time fox returns the personal attacks.
