DENVER – The Cable Center today announced the members of The Cable Hall of Fame Class of 2011. The six honorees will be inducted during the annual Cable Hall of Fame Celebration, held in conjunction with Cable Connection–Spring, a week of cable industry events uniting major industry associations, conferences and meetings in Chicago on June 14-16, 2011.

The new honorees are:
• Maria Bartiromo, Anchor, CNBC
• Jeff Bewkes, Chairman and CEO, Time Warner Inc.

• Jim Gray, Former Vice Chairman, Time Warner Cable; Former Chairman and CEO, PrimeStar Partners
• Paul Kagan, Chairman and CEO, PK WORLDMEDIA, INC.

The honorees were chosen because of their dedication to and impact on the cable industry. The 2011 Cable Hall of Fame selection committee was chaired by Matthew C. Blank, Chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., a member of The Cable Center’s board, and a 2009 Cable Hall of Fame Inductee. Since 1998, only 84 men and women have been inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame.

“It’s my pleasure and honor to welcome these six leaders into the Cable Hall of Fame,” said Blank. “Whether it be on camera, in Congress or behind the scenes, their hard work has been essential to the impact that our industry has on the lives of our customers.”

“Our congratulations to the 2011 Cable Hall of Fame class for this well-deserved honor,” said Larry Satkowiak, President and CEO of The Cable Center. “We are excited to recognize this inspiring class during Cable Connection – Spring, and we look forward to seeing our friends and supporters in Chicago as we celebrate their many accomplishments.”

  3. I’d never heard f the Cable Center or its Hall of Fame; and was curious as to why MB deserved a lifetime achievement award from it; so I checked it out.
Turns out it’s an industry group that have been giving these awards to their members since 1998. Except for Bernard Shaw: and now Bartiromo all the past recipients have been Chairmen, CEOs, Presidents or Founders of the various companies that make up the organization.
I’m not sure why they gave one to Shaw but Bartiromo’s choice would appear to have more to do with having good corporate connections than any real service to cable news.
