Howard Kurtz Goes Up Against His Old Show…
Today’s news that Howard Kurtz’s new media show MediaBuzz will be slotted against his old Reliable Sources show on CNN certainly sets the stage for a showdown of sorts. If FNC should win the hour handily on the first airing, I would expect FNC to maximize the PR potential. Although we haven’t seen a lot of cross network warfare with anonymous sniping and Photoshop cheap shots aimed at CNN of the type which happened back when Jon Klein was running CNN (and yes I DO miss those days as they kept things interesting), one could think this case might be an exception this time since Kurtz was with CNN for so long and FNC did snap him up quickly.

If I were Klein, I’d arrange to have Sunday’s show guest-hosted by Tina Brown.

With the move, Jamie Colby will be down to an hour on Saturday and an hour on Sunday. I wonder what her future holds.

^^I’m not sure what potential PR there is to maximize as it’s almost a given that Kurtz’s new show will handily beat RS because it’s is a new show and FNC virtually always beats CNN.
I wish they had chosen a different timeslot as it means I have to record one of the shows or watch one online later if I want to see both; a stupid inconvenience.
It will be interesting to see Kurtz’s take on the non stop Lane/ Belton coverage in the rightwing media, particularly FNC, tying it to the Zimmerman case and Obama. Also telling is who will be on the guest list. Will it be packed with Fox News pundits and Daily Caller hacks or will it be the same MSM media types that populated Reliable Sources.

Yawn.. I still don’t get it. fox hires all the folks they use to dog when they worked somewhere else. Kurtz won’t give unbiased coverage..if it really turns out to be a show about media coverage. thats the thing about fox, they disguise shows with names…that the content has nothing about.

Kurtz will shy away from criticism of his bosses, which is to be expected. It’s pretty hard to do a media watch show on one of the networks being watched, so I don’t care much about this. All I ask is that he and the panel refrain from the incessant “Fox is right, everybody hates us” mantra practiced almost everywhere else on that channel. My hopes are not high..
