Non-Sequitur

FBN’s Bull and Bears is airing a segment on the Michael Jackson autopsy results and talking to a forensic pathologist about what those results mean. Someone please tell me what this has to do with business news?

Update: Hardball is now doing it too. The Place for Politics?

  1. Maybe this will start a run on forensic pathology stocks?

    That’s the best I’ve got.

Drug stocks are gonna fall on the news that a celebrity took too much of their product.

Eh, who am I kiddin? I got nothin’.

  3. — forensic pathology stocks:–

    Good one.

Considering how important this will be to AEG LIVE stock and how much of the insurance they bought will be paid out, this makes a hell of alot of sense for a business channel to cover it.

  5. Hardball covered it because the powerful forensic pathology lobby plays a large behind-the-scenes role in the health care debate.

  6. –forensic pathology —

Wouldn’t they be part of the ‘death panels’?

  7. Considering how important this will be to AEG LIVE stock and how much of the insurance they bought will be paid out, this makes a hell of alot of sense for a business channel to cover it.

Sure, if they bothered to talk about that angle. They didn’t.

  8. Of course MJ has something to do with politics. After all, one House Democrat has some sort of motion or whatever related to MJ.

  9. For those that don’t know, the powerful forensic pathology lobby has been one of the main “astroturfers” at the townhalls.

Those nerdy looking people with glasses……all astroturfers from this shadowy group.

The lobby doesn’t want the public option because they know how inept government already is, and the increased bureaucracy will slow down their already slow, meticulous work.

  10. Its all about the ratings, baby!

Oh you didn’t know? FBN’s rating are in the toilet and no amount of “tidy bowl” will fix ’em.

  11. Even if there really is a business angle in there somewhere it’s still a dumb topic for FBN to cover. As I recall all the regular FNC viewers changed the channel while that network had its MJ coverage going.

  12. You’re killing me Red…

  13. ^Well then it’s a good thing the forensic pathology lobby is so powerful, so they can discover how I went about killing you. 🙂

Of course it’s related to politics. Didn’t you see MSNBC edit the video of Jacko’s doc so as to hide his skin color while proclaiming him to be a racist white healthcare protestor who killed Jacko because he couldn’t come to grips with a black man being known as the “king of pop”. See, it all fits into the MSNBC view of “politics”.

  15. I can’t top that one. Well played, lonestar.

  16. That was my reaction, too, Red. Good stuff.

  17. According to Steve Moore (WSJ) on Greta, in five or six years we’ll be paying more of the federal budget for interest on the debt than we will for national defence (not sure if he means the current level of 20% of the budget as it is today or 14% as Pres. Obama wants it reduced to). In ten years, though, interest on the debt will be the single largest item in the federal budget.

WW2 raised our debt by 80% of GDP while The Iraq War has raised it by around 5%. After WW2, though, mandatory spending represented a mere 5% of the total budget and so we were able to reduce the debt by over 80% in just three years simply by cutting back on defence spending. Can’t do that now because mandatory spending will soon take up 70% of the budget so, with 14% left for defense, there will only be 16% of the budget available for cuts… and paying for all the non-defence and non-mandatory government functions.

Of course, all this assumes a fairly rosy economic future and doesn’t include the massive spending needed for the proposed health care reform. Would be nice if FBN and MSNBC would interrupt their MJ coverage to give us the “what ifs” of canceling the yet unspent portion of the stimulus package… just to not spend it. As CNN would say, “Just sayin.”

According to Steve Moore (WSJ) on Greta…

Ah, you mean the prescient author of “Bullish on Bush: How George Bush’s Owenership Society Will Make America Stronger”? Written in 2004, it “provides the first comprehensive analysis of George W. Bush’s bold second term economic agenda to create a broad-based Ownership Society in America and explains how Bush’s tax relief policies have helped the economy grow, reversed the collapse in the stock market, and put America back to work. This book will make you Bullish on Bush, and Bullish on America! ”

With a track record like that, of course his predictions must be heeded!

  19. No one said the man was perfect. 😉

What cracks me up is that people still have him on their show to talk about ECONOMIC issues, with that clunker on his resume.

Hahaha… read it again, Al: “Bullish on Bush: How George Bush’s Ownership Society Will Make America Stronger”

  22. I have no idea what you are talking about, art. All Mr. Moore said that I paid any attention to on Greta was, “in five or six years we’ll be paying more of the federal budget for interest on the debt than we will for national defence.” I don’t know his credentials nor do I care, but his statement did make me wonder so I began checking. And it appears he’s right on this point, anyway.
