Jim Clancy Out at CNN…

TVNewser’s Mark Joyella writes that CNNI’s Jim Clancy is out at the network…

CNN confirms longtime correspondent Jim Clancy has left the network after nearly 34 years. Clancy made the announcement to colleagues in an email obtained by TVNewser, calling CNN “one of the greatest news organizations in the world” and “a family to my own family.”

The timing of Clancy’s announcement comes just days after the veteran journalist had an extended debate via Twitter over the Charlie Hebdo cartoons.

Well, I must admit I am surprised. I figured Jim Clancy was too big a cog at CNNI for the network to cut him loose over his Twitter meltdown. It’s one thing to drop Octavia Nasr. She was merely a reporter. It’s another thing to drop one of your international network’s bigger names.

I’ll say this…CNN has been mostly consistent at shedding talent when that talent does something controversial. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing I’m not so sure. I thought the Nasr firing was harsh. But if what Nasr did was going to remove her, Clancy had to go.
