Clark Howard joins HLN…

The Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Rodney Ho writes about Clark Howard getting a weekend program on HLN…

Just a few days after announcing he won’t run for Atlanta mayor, syndicated radio host Clark Howard has set his sights on a new venue: national TV.

Howard, who calls himself Atlanta’s biggest cheapskate, will host a new weekend Headline News show under his own name starting Jan. 3. It will air Saturdays and Sundays at 6 a.m., noon and 4 p.m.

The hourlong program will feature clips from his radio show, which is syndicated to 235 stations nationwide. There will also be segments specially made for TV, including a “money coach” series in which he follows families over a long period of time to see if they heed his penny-pinching pointers.

“It’s perfect for our times,” said Ken Jautz, executive vice president of CNN Worldwide, who runs Headline News. “People are looking for and needing financial advice.”

Headline News also will air 16 daily one-minute bits by Howard starting today. He will provide tips on how to stretch the holiday dollar, such as setting a budget and resisting spending on yourself.

“All I have to sell is that I am who I am,” Howard said. “I have this whiny nasally voice. I’m certainly not one of the pretty boys.”

  1. He’s a BIG deal locally(GA), and I’m kind of surprised it’s taken him this long to get some national exposure. We were the junior league for Hannity, hope this makes up for it.

  2. Saw him on the news the other night, thought he looked strangely youthful, younger than I remembered him. Coincidence?

    Laural1,

I remember the first time I saw Clark Howard and thought that the face and the voice didn’t match at all. I just pictured him to be a lot older than what he was. He is quite young looking (I have no idea what his age is).

He did have some TV exposure a few years ago. He did a TV show for Discovery. The premise was getting people who spent way too much money to stop and get themselves finanically secure. I thought it was a good show.

I am glad for him that he has this deal with HLN, but will anyone really ever see it….it is HLN after all.

laural1: Clark Howard has been syndicated for a few years, but like most national business radio shows, has really not caught fire.

jerziegirl: I’d still like to see HLN bring in a replacement for Glenn Beck.

  5. He’s 53, per Wikipedia. He’s never looked more than 40, just seemed a bit ‘freshened up’ when on local news last week. In the age of cosmetic surgery, a person can’t look well-rested without some of us wondering.

Clark Howard is waaaaaay too cheap for plastic surgery! 🙂
