  1. Is Joe Scarborough really worth $5.1M dollars to MSNBC?

    http://www.tmz.com/2013/10/11/joe-scarborough-divorce-settlement-salary-morning-joe-msnbc/?adid=hero4

No wonder he has such a big head! What does his wife do that no child support is necessary?

  2. Who has he been sleeping with?

  3. Five million dollars was the settlement to the first boy who sued Michael Jackson for molestation. A logical sellout figure for a traitor RINO.

  4. icemannyr Says:

The Obamacare hit parade continues on FNC.

On F&F clown Steve Doocy talked to a family who say they do not want to go on Obamacare because it’s run by the government and is socialized medicine.

Just the creepy opening animation is bad enough.
    http://video.foxnews.com/v/2742102385001/think-you-can-keep-your-insurance-plan-under-obamacare/

Yeah that is Fair & Balanced coverage.

  5. ICE’s idea of fair and balanced is criticism of FOX 90% and any other outlet 10%… and I’m being charitable to the never ending FNC bitch-fest that is THE ICEFILES.

  6. Steve Doocy is what happens when a decent reporter’s father gets preferential treatment.

  7. icemannyr Says:

Search FOXnews.com and find one video report where a family was on FNC talking about how Obamacare is helping them.
FNC’s coverage of Obamacare is negative. That’s not Fair & Balanced.

  8. icemannyr Says:

As I’ve said before MSNBC does not claim to be Fair & Balanced.
They are a liberal news talk channel.

FNC still pretends they are Fair & Balanced while they are doing conservative pov news.

  9. The best part of Megyn’s interview with Howie was the part where all the other news-sources are fairly liberal, but Fox is totally fair. As I’ve said, she doesn’t have to be a liberal to know how the game is played.

  10. Bah. She doesn’t have to be conservative to know how the game is played.

  11. “As I’ve said, she doesn’t have to be a liberal to know how the game is played.
Bah. She doesn’t have to be conservative to know how the game is played.”

^^I don’t think Megyn Kelly is the story of the MB interview. She’s either a right winger or fair and balanced depending on your POV.

For me, it was Howie fawning and flirting as she played him like a lovesick school boy. This is supposed to be a program about media criticism not a promo for Fox News personalities with new shows to push. He should be embarrassed.

  12. “FNC still pretends they are Fair & Balanced while they are doing conservative pov news.”
FNC provide the necessary counterpoint to the overwhelming LIBERAL MSM in giving fair and balanced coverage that used to never exist in the entire TV news spectrum. The fact that FNC’s conservative POV makes them think they are being fair is no more surprising that the liberals at NBC, CBS, ABC, the NYT, CNN, Time Magazine, etc think they are being fair. The fact liberals get bent out of shape is from their own bias in not seeing the similarity. TO DAMN BAD!

  13. icemannyr Says:

Let me get this correct, Ted Cruz is a key player in the government shut down starting with his non filibuster filibuster on Obamacare, then he speaks Sunday at veterans rally about how bad Democrats are for closing down landmarks and memorials as a part of the government shut down he helped create. Amazing.

You could be checking out a used car with no tires on it and rust all over it and if Cruz said it’s just like new Conservatives would believe him.

Obama and Biden to meet with Reid, McConnell, Boehner and Pelosi at White House at 3 p.m. ET.

  14. imnotblue Says:

Again… the left-wing logic of “we don’t like FNC because of their slogan” shows up. What nonsense.

And now I’ll grab the articles where MSNBC folks (like Maddow, Griffin, etc.) talk about how they’re not biased, they’re just on the correct side of everything and fair to everyone else. And then Ice will complain that’s not the point, and show me something about FNC’s being biased, while ignoring MSNBC, and on and on.

It’s amazing how some people have the stamina to have the same fight over and over again. Evidence of the old notion that if you say something enough times, you believe it.

  15. ICE is frozen, Blue. The facts you just pointed out might mix with water.

  16. You mean like constantly arguing that Fox isn’t biased because others are more biased? That same fight over and over? Yeah, that IS rather tedious.

  17. Biden released from Witness Protection.

  18. Those who give tedious counters tediously to tedium are part of the ICN Royal Tediosity.

  19. icemannyr Says:

I’ve never ignored that MSNBC has a liberal bias.
When they replaced dayside news hours with opinion shows and became “The Place for Politics” MSNBC’s days as a news channel were over and they became a liberal news talk channel.

  20. icemannyr Says:

Ok now I get it. Because all news channels except FOX News Channel have a liberal media bias FOX News Channel should not be called out for any conservative media bias because the are they only conservative news channel.

MSNBC can’t be that bad if FNC hired a bunch of their news anchors. 😛

  21. They can’t argue the point about Fox, so let’s keep diverting to what happens on MSNBC. I’ve done that myself, but I got over it.

  22. Oh, and the business of calling people “haters” is no different than liberals calling people “racist”. It’s a means of dismissing an opinion, without actually rebutting it.

  23. savefarris Says:

“Still to come are the requisite timeline stories about how the ACA is working one week out”

“We are now two weeks into the sputtering rollout of Obamacare, and still, few explanations for those technical glitches. Some experts say fixing it could take long time. Senior medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen has been trying unsuccessfully to set up an account. She joins us from the CNN Center.”

  24. savefarris Says:

Search FOXnews.com and find one video report where a family was on FNC talking about how Obamacare is helping them.

If you find someone who’s being helped by Obamacare, the White House would like to know. All they can find so far is Chad Henderson.

  25. Reading is fundamental.

My point about MSNBC, was a counter argument to the “at least MSNBC says they’re Liberal” canard.

Here’s what I don’t understand about the FOX bashers, why is it the same story every day? “FOX isn’t ‘fair and balanced’ because they interviewed XYZ person, instead of ABC person. Waa.” All the time!

You just said: “Because all news channels except FOX News Channel have a liberal media bias FOX News Channel should not be called out for any conservative media bias because the are they only conservative news channel.” Which may or may not be true (the part about everyone else being “liberal.”

But even if it’s not 100% true, why all the focus on FOX? Why do the self-proclaimed defenders of the integrity of media slogans, or eye witnesses to bias, only seem to care and babble about it incessantly when it’s on FOX?

See, that’s why you’re called “haters.” Because it’s not journalism you’re fighting for, or bias you’re fighting against… it’s fighting against otherwise unheard right-of-center opinions. The lack of criticism of other networks is the evidence for that. If you want to talk about all the other networks, the perhaps you can claim some sort of moral high-ground. But that’s not what’s happening, and frankly what almost never happens. It’s all politics and ideology, not ethics or journalism.

It’s a lie to say otherwise.

  26. Obamacare: Just read the NY Times today and you will see many anonymous sources saying they knew this would be a clusterf**k but the WHITE HOUSE (and we all know who runs that house)
said this is a go, there will be no soft rollout to check glitches, and oh yeah, if you are lucky enough to get through to a certain point, you can register to vote, but you still won’t have actual costs available to you for the various plans because the system keeps crashing.

Oh, and if you are doing this in Maryland you will also have to agree that all law enforcement agencies within the state can use the information you provide for any and all uses they have.

  27. savefarris Says:

(and we all know who runs that house)

    Michelle?!?

  28. “Obama says he will not negotiate with Congress on debt ceiling” We’ve all heard that statement numerous times, right?

Today on Andrea Mitchell, she had on Ruth Marcus from the Washington Post. Ruth actually said “I thought OUR position was that we are not going to negotiate. And now, we are negotiating.”

    Whose position, Ruth? OUR position?

  30. Gretchen had super soft segment with Greta about her trip to the veteran’s protest in DC.
Greta only went there when she found out her BFF Palin was going to show up so she got a crew and went there.
No question to Greta about the irony that Cruz and Lee used the event as a photo op to blame to Obama and Democrats when Conservatives were also a part of the government shut down.
Greta also put in the whine that the media is only going to focus on the few people who got out of hand.
Come on now Greta, FNC did the same thing with OWS.

In other news the organizer of the Million Vet March said the DC event was hijacked by a local organizer who basically turned it into a political event event. Good for them to say that.

Official Stance of the Million Vet March on the Memorials:
The political agenda put forth by a local organizer in Washington DC yesterday was not in alignment with our message. We feel disheartened that some would seek to hijack the narrative for political gain. The core principle was and remains about all Americans honoring Veterans in a peaceful and apolitical manner. Our love for and our dedication to remains with Veterans, regardless of party affiliation or political leanings.

  31. No it’s hate. How could the continuous concentration on one network with invective be anything else? Day after day after day it drones on from the same people saying the same things. It’s hate.

Meanwhile MSNBC gives an animal his own show the shameful occupant in the White House made his junkyard dog:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/holy-war-harlem-pastors-al-sharpton-article-1.1484356

  32. ^ No, it’s cable news criticism on a cable news blog. And your incessant defense of the same network under all circumstances leaves you ill equipped to bash others who criticize it.

  33. Rerun from yesterday ’cause relevant to today’s discussion where it will actually be read by actual people who read things:

Oh man, Megyn on Media Buzz was lame. “Most of the press is liberal, Fox is fair and balanced.” The weirdest part is she immediately launched into an advertisement for the whole network when Howie asked her about herself. Nobody asked a question about Fox News.

  34. We have ‘like’ buttons now?

  35. According to Johnny $, Bill Ayers will be on NOW with Alex Wagner tomorrow. What will Ayers have to say? Will he call Republicans terrorists?

  36. imnotblue Says:

No, it’s not “cable news criticism.” It’s obsessively attacking ONE cable news network.

Perhaps if you folks didn’t spend so much time and energy focused on one network, we’d all be more willing to approach these things with an open mind. But instead, the hourly “FOX tattle” makes that a little more than difficult.

But even so, I’ve seen ever single right-wing person on this site criticize FNC at one point or another. Just not every single time the outrage seekers snap their fingers.

  37. imnotblue Says:

Wow… the “like this” buttons do awful things to this site’s display. It bounces around for a while until the graphic is available. Yuck.

  38. “For me, it was Howie fawning and flirting as she played him like a lovesick school boy. This is supposed to be a program about media criticism not a promo for Fox News personalities with new shows to push. He should be embarrassed.”

If I’ve learned anything from Howie the last few years, its that he is incapable of being embarrassed by acting like a creepy old man. I got no problem with Megan Kelly playing him for the fool that he is.

  39. Carol: Bill Ayers was on Morning Joe today also. I did not watch though I am sure there is video somewhere. I have no interest in listening to someone who has never taken any responsibility for the bombing he did and wishes they had done more.

He will be here in Madison in a few days and the media here just can’t wait for him to be here. The gushing is truly disgusting.

  40. The comments on the FNC ‘protest’ are beyond ignorant. Not even the slightest clue as to how things work in the broadcasting industry. You can just pull an entire script for a 90 sec (minimum) report from one’s @ss and packages don’t need reviewing and editing for clarity and ensuring all the important and relevant points are there and cutting out things that aren’t as important. Yeah, that’s how things are done.
    http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ed-henry-on-walking-out-of-wh-briefing-it-wasnt-a-protest-from-me-i-had-a-job-to-do_b199997#disqus_thread

  41. You’re just wrong, Blue. I’ve criticized all the networks at various times. It just so happens that Fox is the biggest player, playing the most egregious games. They run a POV network, then claim it’s not POV. If you lie, people are gonna notice.

  42. icemannyr Says:

Just as you would figure Greg does a commentary on The Five complaining that guy holding the confederate flag and the impeach Obama protesters were a small minority of the protesters that should not be covered by the media and says the OWS people were worse.

He also ignored the Larry Klayman who spoke after Palin, Cruz and Lee calling basically calling Obama a muslin and telling him to resign.

Funny how FNC gets all outraged about liberal hate speech then when Conservatives do it’s only a small minority and should not be covered.

“I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come out with his hands up,” said Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch, a conservative political advocacy group.” Yeah no hate speech there.
    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/10/13/at-tea-party-like-rally-obama-told-to-put-the-quran-down/comment-page-14/

  43. What’s amusing is that Joe, Fritz and Ice have essentially copped to MSNBC being an Opinion channel. Outside of the guy with a hammer and sickle as an avatar, no one around here seriously claims that MS is Fair & Balanced. The fact that people who work there make delusional statements to the contrary is meaningless, unless you want to justify Fox’s denial by saying “Well, MSNBC denies it too!!” In other words, if they say it and they’re full of it, aren’t you basically admitting that you’re full of it? And maybe that’s as close to honesty as we’ll get.

  44. Bret Baier: ‘I Am Not Sean Hannity’

Fox News anchor Bret Baier spoke to an audience at his alma mater, DePauw University, Saturday morning and adamantly declared, “I am not Sean Hannity.” Oh really? Who knew? In all seriousness, Baier spoke about journalism to a reported 675 people at DePauw about the “dramatic changes” he sees happening to the journalism industry in years to come. The writeup of the event came from a student on the DePauw website…. via FISHBOWLDC
    http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowldc/bret-baier-i-am-not-sean-hannity_b118039

  45. Like I said 90% MediaMatters bashing, 10% other.

    — charitable, Yoda is.

  46. icemannyr Says:

Bret Baier is one of the good guys at FNC.

  47. falls off chair

  48. Ah, so we’re pretending to do statistical breakdowns in order to decide whether someone’s opinion is valid. I’ll just leave that “90%” alone, lest I offend someone.

Aside from Shep, Special Report’s the straightest show they have, though it still leans Right.

  49. “Carol: Bill Ayers was on Morning Joe today also.” – Pam

    That actually surprises me.

  50. Hope Joe washed his hands afterwards.

  51. savefarris Says:

Outside of Football, when’s the last time NBC got 16 million viewers? Is their schedule a big enough disaster to qualify for FEMA yet?

  52. icemannyr Says:

When Juan Williams brings up the confederate flag and Muslim hate speech at the D.C. veteran’s protest O’Reilly excuses as just one loon and every event has loons.

Mary Katharine Ham uses then the talking points that the OWS people did worse things and were never called out for it.

Now we have the smirking troll Jesse Watters doing a hit piece on Hillary Clinton.

  53. savefarris Says:

Here’s why the exchanges aren’t getting better anytime soon:

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2013/10/14/obamacares-website-is-crashing-because-it-doesnt-want-you-to-know-health-plans-true-costs/

In short, the public would freak the f**k out if they saw the non-subsidized prices of Obamacare. That’s why the website forces the code-intensive process of verifying identity first before showing anyone a price. The complete opposite of every other website on the planet.

  54. icemannyr Says:

Megyn continues the conservative hate speech excuse parade
starting off her show with a dishonest segment as conservative documentary film maker Dennis Michael Lynch whines that the cable news channels are liars when they say the tea party was
behind some of the protesters at the Veteran’s event in D.C. and only show the controversial things that happened.
He says It’s the cable news channels using the veterans as
    pawns.

Again the conservative talking points are it was just one guy with a confederate flag and one hate filled speech by Larry Klayman that should be ignored by all media.

It’s ok for FNC to depict all OWS people as degenerate thugs.

  55. As of today, according to the WI Office of the Commissioner of Insurance less than 50 people have signed up using the federal exchange. These numbers came from calling the insurers themselves since the Feds will not release the numbers.

    Gee, I wonder why?

    http://www.maciverinstitute.com/2013/10/less-than-50-sign-up-for-obamacare-in-wisconsin/

  56. Megyn had the film maker on again? She probably should’ve watched his appearance on The Daily Show first..

  57. icemannyr Says:

There is something I do agree on. healthcare.gov sucks rocks! “Please wait”.

  58. but at Obama’s last press conference, he wouldn’t call on any network reporters, and not one of those he did call on asked him a health care question. Pitiful.

  59. Every story that I see about the rollout of ObamaCare is a disaster. Right now, Republicans could be basking in the glow of “I told ya so”. Thanks, guys.

  60. The loons couldn’t decide between “Obamacare will really suck” and “people will love it and be addicted to the sugar”. Apparently “it’ll work if we don’t lose our minds trying to stop it” prevailed. Oops.

  61. icemannyr Says:

If not for Tea Party Teds Excellent Adventure to defund Obamacare as a part of funding the government the narrative would be mostly about all the problems with Obamacare that need reform.
Instead the talk is about monuments and landmarks being closed and FNC complaining that the media covered the controversial things that happened at the veteran’s rally.
    Nice job Cruz.

  62. Ok, I get maybe the message is supposed to be that closing a specific memorial is somehow unfair or mean or whatever, but the optics don’t work. Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin complaining about closed government is just funny.

  63. Also, a sitting US Senator has an obligation to renounce that Klayman dude who basically accused POTUS of Muslim terrorism and treason. If a senator speaks at a rally, he represents everything said at it unless he says otherwise. That display yesterday was a disgrace.

  64. Special Report’s the straightest show they have, though it still leans Right.

We’ve seen ‘straight’ news programmes that present their product from a mostly liberal perspective for decades, so ones that do so from a mostly conservative angle absolutely qualify as ‘straight’ news programmes. Special Report, especially its first half hour, is a good example of how this is properly done. With the way television news, and cable news in particular, has evolved over the years it is easy for us to dismiss the notion that two reports of the same story, one from a conservative viewpoint and the other liberal, can both be presented factually accurate and truthful.

  65. savefarris Says:

I love the talking point that it’s the Republican’s fault that 404Care isn’t getting the coverage it deserves. Don’t they realize that the media is physically incapable of covering two stories at once? Or that the media, as the gatekeepers of information, get to choose themselves what they do and do not focus on?

  66. icemannyr Says:

If people were heckling Ted Cruz yelling “Go back to Canada!” when he was speaking at the veterans rally FNC would be doing segments on the liberal hate speech.

When Larry Klayman uses anti Muslim hate speech about Obama at a veterans rally the FNC excuse is he does not represent the majority of the people at the event and other cable news channels are covering it to much.

  67. savefarris Says:

If a senator speaks at a rally, he represents everything said at it unless he says otherwise.

Remember folks, this rule applies to SENATORS only. Not Presidents.

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/09/hoffa-on-tea-party-lets-take-these-sons-of-bitches-out/

  68. Sorry Farris, you’ll never prove that Hoffa meant anything other than “take em out at the ballot box”.

  69. savefarris Says:

“They’ve got a war, they got a war with us and there’s only going to be one winner….President Obama, this is your army.”

Yep, all about the ballot box. Do you handle “terrorists”, “hostage takers”, and “suicide bombers” via the ballot box?

  70. Yes, war lingo is used all the time in sports and politics. I don’t happen to like it, but I can tell the difference between “take em out” and “cut their heads off”.

  71. Which is deflecting, as usual. Palin can get away with ignoring Klayman because she’s just a private person. Ted Cruz is a senator at a rally in front of the White House. He either denounces those disgusting allegations against a sitting president, or he agrees with them.

The Idiot Gohmert owes Sen. McCain an apology, too. That moron accused a senior senator of supporting the people who took down the Towers. There’s a guy who should think about leaving the country.

  72. I love the talking point that it’s the Republican’s fault that 404Care isn’t getting the coverage it deserves. Don’t they realize that the media is physically incapable of covering two stories at once? Or that the media, as the gatekeepers of information, get to choose themselves what they do and do not focus on?

The media’s covered the Obamacare implementation clusterphuque quite frequently. Fact is, it’s not the big story because the government is shut down and the United States Congress is on the brink of committing the single most destructive act to this union since the secession of the south.

  73. Yeah, Andy, but it’s the liberal mainstream media’s fault that the Tea Party are insane-people actively trying to destroy the economy because boo hoo they don’t get everything they wanted. Bunch of babies.

  74. savefarris Says:

but it’s the liberal mainstream media’s fault that the Tea Party are insane-people actively trying to destroy the economy

The CBO announces they can’t project out farther than 20 years because their models literally break because of so much debt, but yeah, it’s the Tea party that’s destroying the economy…

  75. You just can’t make this sh*t up!

Calling all Top Chefs, calling all TV celebrities, or maybe those folks at Martha’s Table Food Kitchen since it is just around the corner! There is work to be done at the White House – tomatoes are rotting, leaves are gathering, weeding to be done.

My goodness, what is Michelle’s mom doing all day – can’t pick a few tomatoes?, or how about the girls and their friends coming down on a Saturday or Sunday and picking a few veggies and delivering them to a food bank?

So sad, so sad. Maybe Barry baby could get a few guards from the WWII Memorial or the Vietnam Memorial to suspend their guarding open air space for a while and come on over to the White House and get their pretty little hands truly dirty and pick a few veggies!

Friday’s premiere of Up Late with Alec Baldwin on MSNBC drew 674,000 total viewers and 172,000 adults 25-54, according to data from Nielsen. Compared to the average in that timeslot over the past few weeks, Baldwin’s show was up in both categories, although compared to only last Friday the program was down slightly in the demo. LA Times / Show Tracker The critics weren’t in a forgiving mood. The premiere featured the former 30 Rock actor and his guest, New York mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio, nestled into a green banquette in a set that looked like it was built for a mob-meeting scene in Goodfellas. Slate called it “My Dinner with Alec” and described the proceedings as “willfully wonky.” The Daily Beast called it a “snooze.” THR / The Live Feed CNN seemed to suffer against the new competition. Anderson Cooper shed 52 percent in total viewers, down from 717,000 to 347,000, and 58 percent in the demo to just 111,000 adults 25-54.

  79. I missed the part about the fox coming into the White House garden so the folks at The Atlantic have a great idea:

Illustrators of children’s books, here is your next story:

The U.S. government has shut down and the woodland creatures of Washington, D.C., use the decline in human presence to take over the grounds of the White House.

Squirrels frolic in the first lady’s vegetable garden, feasting on overgrown tomato vines. Bees are left to their own devices, their waxy cells dripping with uncollected honey. The birds have a field day with plants left to go to seed. And at dusk and dawn there comes the fox, treading gingerly through the long grass of the South Lawn.

The question asked at Althouse: what does the fox say?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE

  80. “You just can’t make this sh*t up!”

^^Yeah you can and you just did. Two options here: 1) Republican government shutdown causes furlough of WH landscapers and thus the garden falls into disrepair as mentioned in the article. Tea Party types b*tch that it’s Mrs.Obama’s fault. 2) Landscapers continue to maintain garden and Tea Party types b*ich that the WH is getting special treatment. The facts is the Republican government shutdown is the reason the garden can’t be maintained and it has nothing to do with Mrs. Obama.

  81. or the Queen of Exercise could grab a hoe and weed the garden like I do mine. And I didn’t ask little kids to help me plant it.

  82. fritz: what about the garden falling into “disrepair” is made up?

It is “her” effing garden that she wanted so badly. She had many, many celebrities over to tout the greatness of the garden, and she wanted her cook in the White House to use those veggies to make the meals for her family, so yeah, “it’s her garden” not the taxpayers!

I can’t go there and pick the veggies, no one can, it was her idea, so it’s hers to take care of.

I didn’t make anything up – I think your reading comprehension must be off a little bit this morning. Is it because you have spent so much time trying to buy your Obamacare in the middle of the night hoping the system will work then and you’re not getting much sleep?

Larry: Michelle can’t go into the garden to do the work because of bad optics and all, you know.

  83. Interesting contrast between the veterans rally at the War Memorial today and the Tea Party photo-op rally that happened yesterday.

Today it’s reserved, somber, well dressed and respectful people angry about the Republican government shutdown harming veterans.

Yesterday it was a bunch of yahoos, who looked like they were extras on Duck Dynasty, screaming hatful slurs at the President.

Although… it’s October. How much stuff does she have left in that garden? Even my folks in the South are done for the season.

  85. imnotblue Says:

Gotta love it when the left (as fritz represents) discriminate based on how some people look.

Also funny how “hatful [sic]” things are now unacceptable… when just a few years ago, they were celebrated by the very same people… and will once again be celebrated tomorrow, when it’s someone from the “correct team” shouting them. Funny how that works.

  86. “It is “her” effing garden that she wanted so badly. She had many, many celebrities over to tout the greatness of the garden, and she wanted her cook in the White House to use those veggies to make the meals for her family, so yeah, “it’s her garden” not the taxpayers!”

Much of the produce from the garden goes to local food banks, but who cares about that. But if, as you say, it’s “her effing garden” then it’s really none of your business what she does with the produce and who takes care of it.

  87. savefarris Says:

Much of the produce from the garden goes to local food banks, but who cares about that.

Obviously not the Obamas. Otherwise, they’d grab a tool and get in there.

  88. @ farris

    BOOM!

  89. “Gotta love it when the left (as fritz represents) discriminate based on how some people look.”

^^Well yes blue, the people there today were dressing and behaving in the manner in which I believe best represents how Americans, who think like I do, should dress and act when attending a protest rally at a Memorial for War Dead.

If you prefer your War Dead Memorial rally attendees to dress like they are headed out deer hunting or down to the local bar for a few pops while calling out the POTUS as Muslim and foreigner; that’s your prerogative, it’s just not mine.

  90. Garden a great idea as long as you don’t have to weed it. I’m still getting some tomatoes, but the first frost will end that in a week or so.

  91. “they’d grab a tool and get in there.”

^^Sorry farris I think Ted Cruz is busy these days. 😉

  92. The LEFT aleays makes fun of their enemies looks. That’s what the nasty bunch does for fun. Whether it’s Linda Trip or the Florida Secretary of State, the mean streak shows.

  93. “they’d grab a tool and get in there.”

^^Sorry farris I think Ted Cruz is busy these days.

FRITZ and humor are true strangers.

  94. Yeah, conservatives absolutely never make fun of people’s looks. Let me make a note.

  95. @ fritz
How very shallow of you. Isn’t it the left who pushes all kinds of anti-discrimination laws, and wants to make sure that the teens with huge holes through their face aren’t treated any differently than anyone else?

Man… who knew you guys were so prejudiced and shallow, demanding conformity from everyone (except fellow Liberals).

    @ Laura

Good point. I guess we should just stop talking about that kind of stuff, because… you know… some Conservatives do it to. Let’s let the Liberals be as bigoted as they feel appropriate (very), and keep respectfully quiet because some other idiots do or might do the same. That’s a great strategy. I bet it catches on quick.

  96. “The LEFT aleays makes fun of their enemies looks. That’s what the nasty bunch does for fun.”

They aren’t my enemies; I don’t know any of them personally; nor would I want to. It’s the disrespect for where they were and how they acted that bothered me. If that crowd yesterday were representing me and my values I’d have the good taste to, at least, be embarrassed by their behavior.

The 33 legitimate veterans groups at the rally today represent my views on the shutdown and I’m proud to say so.

“Whether it’s Linda Trip or the Florida Secretary of State, the mean streak shows.”

^^When you have no good argument to make just change the subject.

  97. “How very shallow of you. Isn’t it the left who pushes all kinds of anti-discrimination laws, and wants to make sure that the teens with huge holes through their face aren’t treated any differently than anyone else?”

^^ When you have no good argument to make; just change the subject.

  98. — I guess we should just stop talking about that kind of stuff, because… you know… some Conservatives do it too —

I’ll let the irony of that statement sink in for awhile.

  99. Steve Lonegan is a part of the far right and I doubt he has any chance of winning vs Cory Booker in the NJ race for Senate. Not to mention the ridiculous Lonegan ad saying Booker is worse than former Newark Mayor Sharpe James.

  100. The Obama part of that poll is correct. The rest is skewed. Everything’s fine.

  101. @ fritz
What part of that was “changing the subject?” The “subject” is how shallow, prejudiced, and hypocritical your statement was. Everything else was just examples.

    @ Laura
Wasn’t that your point?! That since some Republicans “do it too,” it’s not a valid topic of discussion?

    @ Poll
The poll seems to show everyone’s negatives are increasing. Perhaps the Tea Party goal is to wait until everyone gets to 0 (because you can’t really get to negative numbers, can you?), and Obama and the Democrats don’t seem to object.

  102. “What part of that was “changing the subject?” The “subject” is how shallow, prejudiced, and hypocritical your statement was.”

^^ The subject I was discussing was the totally different behavior of the attendees at the two at the War Memorial rallies yesterday and today and the lack of respect shown by the Tea Party participants at yesterdays rally.

You changed the subject to “anti-discrimination laws, and… teens with huge holes through their face”.

“who knew you guys were so prejudiced and shallow, demanding conformity from everyone (except fellow Liberals).”

^^No I just expect people to going to a demonstration at a War Memorial not to behave as if it was a frat party. I don’t think that’s asking too much; but that’s just me. You obviously don’t care about stuff like that and that certainly is your right.

  103. @ Laura
Wasn’t that your point?! That since some Republicans “do it too,” it’s not a valid topic of discussion?

I believe Laura’s point would be that a search of the names Nancy Pelosi, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Meghan McCain would remind any conservative that complaining about what the left “always does” is a losing game.

  104. imnotblue Says:

    @ fritz
On average, how much time do you spend yelling at kids to “pull up their pants?” I’m starting to guess, “a lot” would be the answer.

Oh well. Maybe when the memorials “re-open,” you can try to get some sort of dress code enforced. At least then, when the government tries to close open-air un-staffed space, they can say, “See! This is what we monitor! We’re the fashion police!”

    @ Joe
So the point is that the right does the same thing, and therefore has no ground to complain. That’s what I said, no? So because of that, we should let the left run their standard attack, and sit quietly on the sidelines because “the right does it too.” And pointing out that it’s insulting and/or wrong, even if we say so for BOTH sides, isn’t good enough. That was the point, correct?

  105. The new MSNBC website is great.

  106. “Shrieking, screeching, dissembling, nut-picking, the very bad people of this bad channel played their most glorious card. As they did, they dug our tribal divisions deeper. And make no mistake:

  109. “On average, how much time do you spend yelling at kids to “pull up their pants?” I’m starting to guess, “a lot” would be the answer.”

^^So this is your answer to Tea Party goons yelling ethnic slurs at the President of the United States while in front of a War Memorial. Very nice.

Oh well. Maybe when the memorials “re-open,” you can try to get some sort of dress code enforced. At least then, when the government tries to close open-air un-staffed space, they can say, “See! This is what we monitor! We’re the fashion police!”

^^ Blue; for the last time; I just feel that people should have some basic patriotic respect for places like War Memorials, Military Graveyards, Cenotaphs etc. The Tea Party and their supporters, like you, obviously don’t care about respect and patriotism at these sites so there’s not much more I can say. We disagree.

This shutdown is denying some children of life-saving treatments. The GOP can whine about Obama making the shutdown as brutal as possible but here’s the important question, why are they enabling him? Were they actually expecting Obama to be nice and possibly surrender and not try to paint them in a negative light?

    Love the FNC double standard.
How many cable news channels ran stories complaining that FNC was doing to many stories on the people who did bad things at the OWS camp in NYC?

Yet FNC is complaining that the media is doing to many stories on the guy with the confederate flag and the anti Muslim hate speech at the veterans rally.

So it’s ok for FNC to do stores about the bad people at the OWS camp but we should ignore the people at the veterans rally because it was only two people.

I already made my point, and I suspect you’ve lost track of the fact that this started with “the left always makes fun of other peoples’ looks”, which is a comment so tone deaf and silly that I feel silly even discussing it.

  114. savefarris Says:

This shutdown is denying some children of life-saving treatments. The GOP can whine about Obama making the shutdown as brutal as possible but here’s the important question, why are they enabling him?

They’re not: they passed a budget specifically funding the NIH. Harry Reid shot it down because scoring political points is more important than preventing sick kids from dying.

  115. Watching All In on msnbc.com – this show gets worse and worse. Just cancel it already.

  116. Ann Coulter said she likes MSNBC hosts Lawrence O’Donnell and especially Chris Hayes because he does not “sneer or mock” political opponents like the rest of MSNBC. “He’s not smug,” Coulter said. From POLITICO

  124. Obamacare and the debt limit are not negotiable commodities. These people are prepared to cause a second global economic catastrophe, and they’re cool with it. At what point does this activity reach “threat to the Government of the United States” status?

  125. icemannyr Says:

Conservative Ben Shapiro is on Megyn’s show to whine that liberals are more racist then Republicans and we should ignore the controversial people at the veterans rally.

  135. The Late Show with Jake Tapper is pretty good, especially the last half. He does a good job describing the elements that led up to all this, including the fact that earmarks are no longer used as leverage against Congress members.

  136. The law of unintended consequences.

  137. The ratings prove it night and night again. Ratings increase in primetime, especially at 7pm, nosedive at 8pm and surge at 9pm. Rachel should be in first place at 9pm but that will never happen as long as Chris Hayes is on at 8pm.

Chris Hayes in primetime will never work. I wish Griffin and Olbermann would put their egos aside, work out their difference and get back to work.

  138. The Late Show with Jake Tapper is pretty good, especially the last half. He does a good job describing the elements that led up to all this, including the fact that earmarks are no longer used as leverage against Congress members.

Banning earmarks was a reckless move… a pointless, “feel good” thing that actually hurt Speaker Boehner’s ability to function more than it helped.

  139. “including the fact that earmarks are no longer used as leverage against Congress members.”

^^A loss of leverage and control over Congress by the Speaker and party leadership was an unintended consequence of banning earmarks as a restraint on pork barrel spending by Republicans after Boehner took over as Speaker. Two other Republican efforts also have backfired to some extent resulting in a loss of leverage of leadership over it’s members.

The first was gerrymandering states so as to guarantee a Republican victory no matter who ran for office. Because of the primary system this also made it possible for far right extremists to get nominated and thus win a seat in Congress which couldn’t be challenged.

The second effort pushed by Republicans that resulted in unintended consequences was the Citizens United lawsuit which allowed third party PAC’s to replace the RNC etc. as the main source of election funding; particularly in primaries. This gave more power to extremist groups like the Heritage Foundation and CfG than it did the Republican Party. This funding allowed Tea Party extremists to challenge an defeat establishment Republicans. It also meant that moderate Republicans could be blackmailed into supporting extreme positions by the threat of a primary.

These three actions; banning earmarks, gerrymandering and allowing for outside money to replace party money have been the main reasons the Tea Party extremists have been allowed to take over the Republican Party in the House.

There doesn’t appear to be any way that the Speaker or party leadership will be able to control these Republican Tea Party extremists in the near future; so I expect the chaos will remain until the Democrats take over the House in 2014 or 2016.

  140. and puts the pressure in the right direction. A GOOD THING. This small group has been more successful in deficit reduction than Bush was with all three branches of government in Republican majority. Oh, sequester, I sing to thee! Tea Party, God bless thee!

Come on, buddy… this thread’s not that long. You can’t pretend you weren’t making that argument, when you were making a different one a few comments ago? Why are you running from your “Duck Dynasty” comment? Feeling hypocritical? Why the dishonesty now?

As for the attire at the memorials… please go and let the ACTUAL VETERANS know how disappointed you are in their level of respect for their fellow soldiers. I’m sure they’ll appreciate hearing how despite their sacrifices, their attire doesn’t meet your standard, and they should be “ashamed.”

  143. ^^Why are you running from your “Duck Dynasty” comment? Feeling hypocritical?”

^^ I’m not running from anything. Here’s my comment.

“Yesterday it was a bunch of yahoos, who looked like they were extras on Duck Dynasty, screaming hatful slurs at the President.”

^^ They’re still yahoos, look like DD extras and, most importantly, were screaming hateful slurs at the President. You’ve only commented on the dress and ignored the behavior which, under the circumstances, is to be expected.

“As for the attire at the memorials… please go and let the ACTUAL VETERANS know how disappointed you are in their level of respect for their fellow soldiers.”

^^I would but it might be difficult to find “ACTUAL VETERANS” at this particular rally, I’m sure there were some veterans there but mostly I expect the attendees were just the usual Tea Party suspects. Wearing camo and calling the President of the United States a Muslim doesn’t make you a veteran. Your just an idiot in camo.
